This engine wont be in here for longer than another year ( im hoping) so the only money im putting into this engine is maintnence so it will stay healthy.
First thing i did was take off the 36 stickers it was covered in, then parked it and went in and replaced every exhaust gasket and put in new studs for the exhaust manifold.
Doing this i found out the cat was gutted, i wanted to keep the car registered so i borrowed a friends cat of his coupe got it smogged then put back the gutted cat. oh well.
Replaced the valve cover gasket also, was the only thing leaking up front whatsover.
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2082.jpg
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2068.jpg
Then i fixed the taped up intake contraption the guy had going on and stripped/painted the valve cover.

Gave the engine bay a complete wash
Before:

After:
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2109.jpg
I was given the stock bumper and support with the deal since the aftermarket bumper was held on with 3 zipties i through the stock on and put the headlight rods on so they would go down.
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2017.jpg
The other owner destroyed the springs by torching them to lower it, he through in a set of stock front shocks/springs so i through those on for a while for a better ride but looked like Sh*** installed IMO
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2028.jpg
Went to the junkyard and got the headlight housings i was missing along with the rear seat door plastic i was missing, wiper arm, side lights, drivers seat belt motor and other misc plastic and stuff. Im going to keep the far rear stripped.
Heres one of my doner's
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2048.jpg
Mine getting cleaned up/scrubbed down
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/photo316.jpg
I couldent take the suspension anymore and redid it " for now" Ill for sure be getting coilovers after the engine swap. All money towards swap for now.
I got the Eibach sportlines and a Megan camber kit since im not a big fan of negative camber.
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2137.jpg
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2148.jpg
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2150.jpg
Speaking of negative camber the tires i got on this were like slicks and the inside steel belt were showing on all 4 tires and one rim was bent and eventually cracked through so i picked up a set of rims on craigslist.
Running 18's 225/40 on rear and 17's 225/45 in front on universal 4 lugs. not matching but close enough. They had 4 layers of thick paint on them i stripped of chemically. Still deciding on keeping them raw or going with dark bronze paint.

http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2217.jpg
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_2213.jpg
Always had plans of refitting the aftermarket bumper back on, its in the works.
Re glassed it, primed, and sanded ready for me to paint it. And i got the lights and correct plugs ready also.
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_3932.jpg
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_3944.jpg
It was VERY obvious my front LBJ's were on the way out, hitting dips and stuff would clunk bad and the front end squeaked like crazy.
Soooo I told myself i wasent going to spend any money on suspension till after the swap, i guess i lied.
I got the energy master kit, along with brand new front lower control arms with ball joints, inner/outer tie rods, sway bar links, the whole thing.

http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/suprareal/IMG_4009.jpg
The ride now is absolutely amazing/stiff compared to what it was.
Just went ahead and painted the rims bronze, hopefully the 5 lug conversion will come one day and i will upgrade to brand name rims...
Also threw on some blown kei office coilovers in the front to see what it would be like.

Just a heads up, you will also need OEM 180SX turn signals in order for your turn signals to to work properly. If you were to wire the position lights as turn signals, the blinking pattern will either be random or rapid. Seeing that your aftermarket bumper does not have the necessary tabs to place the turn signals, you will need aftermarket lights that work for both turn signals and parking lights instead of OEM lights.

Circuit sports/dmax/origin/junyan.
Right. But just be aware that DMAX offered two versions--not sure about Origin and Junyan. One version is single filament and will be exactly like OEM position lights. Be sure to get the one that is dual filament or dual function.

Im looking for someone selling the dohc hardlines or i can just get them at pick your part. Ive already got the dohc reservoir. If it comes down to it i can just get the right pipe and bend it myself.

So are you just gonna do a wire tuck now that you have tubs or are you going to do custom chassis wiring?

No wire tuck for me. If it was a show car i would have but i just made custom brackets to mount the fuse boxes around the same place as stock. But now it looks a ton cleaner as i was able to tuck some wires behind the tubs sidewalls. I will get some pics up of that soon

Thanks! I should be using a shroud but haven't came across one, I want to go with e fans eventually I think but no I've had zero overheating problems. Guage has never went pass halfway even when driving it hard/drifting.
Also drove it 2 hours away and back with no problems at all.

i hope you re not relying on the dash gauge, cause if that moves, you ve already overheated...
wana explain this to me?
EDIT: i went ahead and searched. Looks like i should be running a aftermarket gauge because of false readings the stock wont pick up until its too late.
Although i dont think ive ever overheated i will go ahead and get a aftermarket and custom install to be safe. I check my compression every now and then since the day i bought it and its always 150 across. Just did a test last week and was 150 across. No other signs off overheating to me. I pop my hood atleast once everytime i drive the car to make sure nothing obvious is wrong. Stock gauge will slowley go up to just under halfway after the thermostat opens up and has never moved any higher than that even for a second. I hope im good.

Im white, i bought an american V8 and its going in my car. No i did not hop on some wagon.

After sitting for 2 months i finnally got the money to get everything going. Ordered $2100 in LS parts and thats just a start, not cheaping out this time.
Made the heads cam ready and safe. Went with all comp parts including Dual springs, magnum pushrods, trunion upgrade kit, seals, etc..

Not at all. You just cut the bottom half like the rear is done for clearance and rivet on the top fender after you line it up

Sadly it looks as if the previous owner did not do frequent oil changes.

Swap was done until i drove it up the street and it spun a bearing due to no oil pressure. ( had no gauge ) rookie mistake. I seen this as a chance to have a brand new engine and chance to learn how to rebuild a engine for the first time. SO we did a stock rebuild on it including a brand new crank, and did some upgrades while inside.
Melling high pressure oil pump, ls7 lifters, ARP rod bolts, LS2 timing chain.
Didn't end up getting many pics of the process.
AND A STACK OIL PRESSURE GAUGE so ill never make the same mistake

Decided to get started on my hydro set up that i have been designing in my head for a long time.
(Anyone who sees this and wants to copy my concept go ahead)
Ive only seen a couple set ups similar to mine being extended. I used this design for 2 reasons, im tall and my knees would hit the Master cylinder if i placed it up front, and with a full interior car making things as sleek and hidden as possible is a plus for me.
Im using the GKtech dual caliper bracket that still allows me to use the Z32 ebrake. So yes i now have 3 separate brakes on the rears.
I fabbed the handle at a friends machine shop, SS lines made at Baker precision, and the bracket holding the master i made of some 304 stainless i had around. Keep in mind under the car there is a supporting plate to stiffen up the area i am bolting to that i did not get a pic of. If you dont do this the floor will flex like crazy when the brake is pulled.
The extension is stainless and threaded specific for the swivel joint on the lever and the master. The bracket holding the lever is designed to fit like stock directly under the shift boots with absolutely no trimming of the center console. All scews to take off the console are still accessible as well.

I am currently making a similar setup myself. I really like the extra space of remote mounting the master toward the rear. I think both the Enjuku Racing Pro 2 cars use a similar setup. Very clean install, I love it. May I ask what rod you used and where you sourced it?

It's a stainless 3/8 rod I was lucky enough to find in the scrap pile at my friends machine shop. Home Depot, lowes, ace hardware and places like that carry stuff like that to. Or you can settle with steel rod and paint it.

It’s been years since any update and that’s mainly because the car stayed the same with little to no changes.
But now some big changes are in progress.
I took a big leap and sold my entire turnkey LSX swap and now going 2JZ CD009.
All pulled and picked up promptly from another member here actually.

I didn’t move on from the LS for any bad reason. It ran great, was giving me no problems, and the torque power band was amazing. It was sad seeing it go.
My main reason for moving on was to use the money and fund my growing business.
2nd - The 2JZ I’ve had for over a year now and have been getting great deals on everything I’ve bought for it so I’m not anywhere near as much money into it as I was the LS.
3rd- I’ve been wanting to fix my frame rails from a prior crash years ago you’ve seen much earlier in this thread
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190321/c643d38125e37f94cc2589ba3cd9c7ca.jpg
The JZ is a JDM VVTI aristo motor with a non vvti intake manifold and throttle body with the IACV chopped off and welded up. This set up is basically a cleaner way of doing a drive by wire delete on it.
It’s a stock motor just cleaned up nice. Fully oem resealed and cleaned.
BC cam gear, CX manifold, Garrett GT35 1.04 (Probably too big may be changed later), emusa pulleys, modified non vvti clear cam cover, powdercoated almost everything, and AN everything !

It just so happens we did the tub work 6 years ago down to the month as I start this new front end. Not planned!
If it were possible to replace the frame rails without chopping off the tubs completely I Probably would have done it.
My frame rails were tweaked just until the very end of the rear subframe bolts making the job just that much harder since the subframe will need to be remounted. Lots of measurements !
I ended up chopping just a inch past the rear subframe bolt. The strut bar and lower bar are in place to keep anything from shifting.

For the frame rails I’m using 1.5”x3” tubing. This will slide into the stock frame rails like a sleeve after shimming one side with 1/4” plate
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190321/0e9969bb97c5a4ba0524334d88a406fb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190321/4329f58a258c435e5a556614bde126da.jpg
You’ll see here the 1/4” plate shim. This makes it possible to weld both sides of the frame rail thru the old in a spot weld fashion.
I could have gotten away with using a 2”x3” tube and forced it thru but chose not to.
The new frame rail sleeve in nearly all the way into the old frame rail while the shim plate is only 6”
My thinking is if I do crash the car again it’ll create a weak spot that’ll bend again if not time for a new shell at that point.
Tons of measuring, mocking up, clamping down, measuring, tacking, and measuring before fully welding down
The holes for the subframe were drilled before welding everything in place to ensure proper fitment

The motorset will have to go in and out a bunch of times for mock-up and fitment purposes
You can here see the rails aren’t fully welded yet I plan on tig welding them. But you can see the spot weld idea thru the side view.

Since I cut the tubs out the strut towers didn’t have much surface to work with. I tossed around a few ideas but this was the best finished look I came up.
It’s 10 gauge steel that I put a bend on all the way around and folded/welded up into the underside

It’s hard to come up with an original tube front design with the amount of them that are being done now
In my opinion the pop up headlight tube fronts are the hardest due to the way the lights mount in so many places.
I could have came up with some over the top crazy design with all sorts of bends and make the car look like a piece of art but I’m choosing not to and that’s because this is now a full track car.
Everything I design and build for this car now backs the idea that it can be replaced easily if damaged, ease of access, and just have a good work flow in general.
With all of that being said I still wanted to prove to myself I can do something different and not keep it too basic.
I will be running a V Mounted intercooler/radiator set up so the main tubes needed to allow clearance for them.
This is the beginning to a design I think will almost fallow the stock lines

There will be gusset work with dimple dies and bead rolling between the two bars creating them almost into one bar section.
Originally I wanted to tie in new tubs to this design. But after seeing how reachable the engine is to work on without them I may stick to no tubs.

Originally I planned to but I’m most likely not going to add any paneling down the sides. We’ve had good luck with open fender wells on other track cars even at the dirtiest tracks. My car sees the streets less and less every year, I’ve probly taken it out 5-10 times in the last year.

Thanks ! My tunnel was already beat from the LS being in it. But yes this set up requires the tunnel to be bashed a bit.
I custom modded the stock shifter and it’s sitting decent. This is just a test fit and will need slight trimming for the actual linkage to move under the car https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/0526ef605e5a193d26bd343bd4c17fc4.jpg

The forward tubes will be connected with a dimple panel. As you can see my mock up with cardboard here but the design might change slightly

I kept the stock support to give me visuals along the way. As you can see the design somewhat fallows the stock lines in a way
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/8b43708b0ec8c61cc61a71659ccd9073.jpg
Since the entire structure is going to be tied together strong there’s really no need for the stock tension rod brackets / power brace so I came up with this design to free up some room for the v mount
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/be7db59a151c6db73596083143d829c5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/4d174145e5a0dcaeee1ca6ec51ddea35.jpg
The tube is the same 1” .120 wall that I’ve been working with. The gussets are added under and on the face for strength.
I’m not worried about these mounts breaking or bending but more so the strength of the bolt in this position but I’m very confident in it.

Earlier I mentioned that pop up tube fronts are in my opinion the hardest and most time consuming. That’s because the way the headlights mount in a flat plane rather then vertical like Silvia/ s14 headlights. I find it a lot more difficult to level everything out to have the proper panel gaps.
Earlier I made sure my front most forward tubes center was at maximum headlight height that way I can run a flat piece off it to mount to and have plenty room for front to back error. If I was really good I could have made the front tube exactly the length and height so the headlight can mount directly on to that ... but I’m not that good yet.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190405/2c066b1f56a7cf69c8e818bc9dd18ae1.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190405/4f67879e4ffd56ac7dd5fc7f81ac63f6.jpg
I’m choosing to only use one of the lower mounts for simplicity but it’s plenty to hold the lights solid.
I’ve threaded the bar stock itself to bolt onto
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190405/cb8292ff962ead03ddecd5079a3a1197.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190405/b0ce94479db91f39779259b947938e14.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190405/bdcf52de6d2873f90d4c0124dcf091bb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190405/36552a624ffde7ef1adafd6df0bd2728.jpg
Next before I can get to mount the radiator or anything else in the engine bay for that matter I need to build the bash bar.
I chose to cap the front of the frame rails with 1/4” plate. The plate is tapped but for extra thread contact I chose to weld nuts on the back side.
Since I’m using 1.5” tubing to mount onto the bash bar the bolt hole locations are critical for room given the frame rails are only 1.5”x3”
I could have made the plates larger much than the frame rails but I wouldn’t look as clean

The gap is wider than it should be. That’s because that’s where these fenders like to fit and still have great fitment on the door gap. I may tweak them overall though. Plus the hood I noticed is slightly narrow compared to stock so it adds to the gap

Before I could start mounting the radiator and intercooler set up the bash bar had to be made.
You’ll notice I did not add a lot of extra bracing on it. This is so it has some place to bend if I crash and be easily replaceable without pushing force onto the frame rails
All tig welded !

What makes this design actually come together is the gusset work on the front forward tubes. Originally I wanted to add bead rolling along with the dimples but the test piece wasn’t looking right so I have another idea for them that’ll be added later on
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190413/091e35cfc9891a19441db6cc621e85e1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190413/ab030520a7b463448ed08b5d1b6d9a34.jpg
I THOUGHT I would have plenty of room with the radiator & fan shroud set up I bought before starting the tube front.
Turns out I should have waited to order these 2 until I was at this exact point. This set up will work but not exactly as I planned.
The radiator could be a couple inches shorter while the shroud could be a bit slimmer but this set up should cool the coolant awesomely
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190413/82afd448ce3ee844ad45fade7aabb3f0.jpg
You’ll notice how low and far forward it’s sitting while in place
I’ll be cutting out and replacing the tube in front connecting the frame rails to allow more clearance

assuming that the car will be used for drifting wouldn't the V-mount be rather inefficient? I don't know too much about drifting since I just street drive my s13 so my thought process might be wrong.
It looks cool but doesn't look the most efficient way of cooling to me.

From my understanding and logic I wouldn’t think the v mount would be any less efficient than a traditional stock vertical set up.
The air coming in thru the bumper will go thru the radiator and draft directly into the airflow underneath the car instead of being pushed into the engine bay while the air traveling past the intercooler will be diverted out of the hood vents. ( I’ll be adding ducting thruout)
Formula D cars run the radiator in the trunk but I can’t see myself doing that. Atleast anytime soon.
And that requires properly placed and sealed ducts on rear quarter glasses to divert air while drifting sideways

More gussets !
Started by removing and replacing the lower support tube since it was interfering with radiator clearance. Now I’ve got good fitment!
You’ll notice the strut bar design I went with is welded permanent. After cutting so much of the sheet metal off the lower strut towers they lost a good amount of structure. So adding this type of strut bar tying in with the firewall will add all the structure back needed
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190420/91a2153cd628aab64c498b52ceecf4cf.jpg
I notched the gusset to be able to view the stamped vin number. The actual vin plate will be riveted onto the gusset right where the stock location would be. Not exactly legal but the design of the gusset wouldn’t look right if it stopped before the vin plate so oh well it’ll look stock when everything’s painted

My actual AN braided line will only be around 6-8” on each inlet and outlet so flow won’t be badly compromised with the smaller inner diameter the AN 16 is compared to the actual inlets and outlets on the radiator

I believe they are Australia based. Same function as vibrant but with a different design. In my opinion the HDi are a better fit because they allow -/+ 2 degrees of wiggle room and or flex and have a much easier unlocking and removing procedure

Wastegate is going out of the hood. I made that decision many many years ago while riding passenger in a similar set up ! Only since this car is on its way to being track only.
Later I will be making a garnish plate on the hood for it and likely have the actual tube flush mounted

Trimmed up the bumper to fit this giant set up.
Like I said before the placement of the radiator in the bumper scoop is not ideal but was my only option without buying another set up. This intercooler/fans/radiator set up is rated to cool 1000 HP. Eventually I want to be in the 600-700 range.

I may do more trimming in the top area of the scoop to let more air flow in. I normally run no bumper at the track though.
All my measurements were correct and the intercooler sits just maxed out high enough to still fit the bumper on. You can see it’s actually trimmed perfect to rest on the intercooler and keep almost perfect gap to the hood

For those of you that don’t already know... you can swap your fuel lines from one side of the chassis to the other. Just unbolt the softlines from the tank and remove all the hardware holding them on the rails and wiggle them out. It’ll require slight bending to get them to fit right but for the most part they already match the other side.
I’m running this filter with AN fittings for my feed and just rubber hose for return. This set up may change later with fuel upgrades.

I’m running the stock JDM Aristo harness and ecu for now. I de pinned every wire I won’t be using from the harness and shrunk it down about half the normal size
The Aristo has the ecu box in the engine bay so in order to route the ecu into the cabin you’ll need to extend all your wires. I chose to also run the ignite into the cabin. An over all 30” extension.

One of the things I never really liked about the LS was the noise. It was obnoxiously loud. Was at the same time a cool factor but the drone inside got very annoying to me.
I knew I wanted the JZ to be super quiet besides being on wastegate
I’m running 3” stainless all the way back with a reducer into a small section that came on the muffler that’s 2.5” that goes back up to 2.75”. Which works perfect to tuck up under the subframe where room is limited.

First test drive didn’t go great. Few bugs made their way out like one would expect. Nothing that wasn’t fixable and was back on its next test a couple days later
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190628/7f249ec16fa4a5d145e54381eb1d3065.jpg
Now that the car was running great I drove it around normally in the neighborhood for a few miles monitoring the gauges and what not.
After seeing nothing but good signs I continued to drive harder not only on the motor but the suspension to test out the fab works design ( heavy braking, quick fast corners, etc)
Parked the car jacked it up to inspect the entire chassis and found my tension rod mount on the passenger side started to bend just enough to crack the paint. So I addressed that problem quick with a added gusset which meant grinding paint down, welding, and re painting ( with airbrush)
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190628/37779062b8b9b1f1a3483287ee5816b4.jpg
This was something I should have done originally but overlooked it but now all is fine !
Around 100 miles later and surprisingly nothing else has went wrong ! Car drives like a daily besides the heavy clutch.
Wish I could upload videos

Thanks much appreciated !
I’m running Evans waterless coolant so there’s little to no expansion with it. A radiator cap isn’t actually needed in this application BUT there is one on the radiator Incase pressure does build up. I also made a custom cap that bolts onto the AN on the upper neck if I decide to later run regular coolant

Still running strong ! My walbro 255 gave out after 6-7 years of use. I replaced it with the e85 compliant walbro 450 for later hp goals.
Here’s a few better pics

My actual mount is just a eBay solid aluminum from stock ka/sr. They bolt right up to the CD trans. You can use any mount that style with my crossmember. Let me know if you have any more questions

This covid plague has really slowed down business for me like most and instead of going insanely bored I decided to start on my roll cage.
It will be a full cage with interior
Im using typical DOM tubing 1.5 .095 wall
Started with stripping the interior and sound deadening. I will be adding back some new deadening after though.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/9155a036ee57169b7d2fa3b1515aec35.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/a40fb36ac90097cca0da1ce9ce2872ae.jpg
I built the front boxes outside of the car for a much easier job when they need to be welded in
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/ccd03470938577f32fde6b0f0b89d05d.jpg
Harness lap belt bolt on plate. You can simply use one of the stock bolt holes with your harness but I found this centered the bolt allowing the strap to come out of the carpet hole much cleaner
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/f16894ba443618aea8f210d1e651604c.jpg
The rear plates counter the chassis nicely to get great coverage
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/006c0c13133e3a12cc36baeafeca61a5.jpg
I?m TIG welding the entire cage minus the base plates to chassis. The entire main hoop was built and welded outside of the car
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/35e9b4ba5c2d9e7c485b5d5e598336d5.jpg
I?ve built a few cages in the past but never with interior. Finding it a lot more difficult to build working around the panels
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/e57fd6f45a5bb86550e07d0b122de2b3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/7e6424767271c8509849867e4bf98cf8.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/c2c7856a9940056c0b7f355b8c209d4c.jpg
The rear section I decided to do a little differently than a standard X. Since these are extra added tubes not needed for a standard cage you have more design freedom. This to me was unique and gave me a little less blindspots on the driver seat in comparison to the X design

After the windshield and A pillar bars were finished it was time to drop the cage down in order to weld the tops. A lot of people will skip this and be left with a unfinished cage
I do this by simply pushing the cage forward till it drops off the boxes.

Work turned around when everyone got their stimulus checks. The past 2 weeks I was lucky to get a hour a day on my cage
A lot of thinking and changing my mind on the door bar designs and I finally decided on this style because they clear my seat perfectly, required only minor trimming of the door panel, and my legs/elbows won?t hit them when getting tossed around drifting
Vertical bars will be added to them

That battery box ruin all the effort for me. Did you ever consider getting rid of it and mounting the battery to the bottom where the spare goes?
With all that awesome fabrication available to you it's such an easy and effective change.
Love the cage, congrats.

I run a full size battery in that box. It wouldn?t fit where the spare is without making a big bulge in the carpet. To me this plastic box is clean, I personally hate exposed battery?s/ boxes.
I may later make a delete panel to hide the rear section and have it wrapped the same material as the dash though
