at the top of the Chat forums, go to the picture thread that is a sticky. On the first page, Steeles posted his car with flat black SE rims (I'm assuming you meant S14s)

u guys think i should powder coat it semi-gloss black? my friend has the machine at work and i just have to pay for material.. the only reason i want to do this is because the sewheels clear coat is all peeling and i already stripped it all off but needs new clear coat or just powdercoat it...my cars graphite gray stock

hard to maintain, it fades to gray a lot, but I found interior vinyl dressing good to maintain the color.

be sure to paint the wheels again if you get them balanced. or youll be left with some unpainted spots where the wheel wheights go.

why would you put a clear coat over flat black? that defeats the purpose of FLAT black. i just painted my friends with 1500 degree engine enamel. they look sweet as hell. im fixin to do mine with real automotive paint and a spray gun. shouldnt make them look any better but it should last longer. One thing is, we wet sanded the wheels before painting and made sure all the dirt was outta there. painted the inside of em too cause it looks wierd if you dont. i attached a few pics.

I put a clear coat over the flat black to protect the paint and keep it from chipping off. I didnt want the wheels to be extremely shiney so instead of getting gloss black and then spraying a clear coat over that i just got flat black.Clear coat isnt used to make the paint shiney.

I suggest that you do not go with flat black. I did this on my car and it was cool.....for one day. After that wheels looked like shit and were horrid to keep clean. I waited until I got some new tires before I repainted them. This was because I could have the weights on the inside of the rim. I suggest you paint them semi-black and put a whole rack of clearcoat on them to give a nice shiny look. Also...dirt will come off with soooo much ease.
Here's an old pic of the flat black wheels...

I highly disagree with 95koukiS14.... They NEVER got dirty because the color of brake dust is the same as the color of the wheel! The only time they came close is when pollen season was goin on, in which case they got a yellow tint to em. This was easily remedied by just spraying with water and wiping them down. We never had any issues of the paint chipping or wearing off. This is probably due to our method of painting, which went as follows:
1. Clean the wheel real good, use brushes and soap, get every speck of dirt off the surfaces you plan to paint.
2. get em wet and use 600 grit wet sandpaper, sand the face surfaces and in the lil depressions on the face of the wheel.
3. rinse and dry em off, check for any places you may have missed with the wet sanding
4. Spray em with the flat black paint. in our case we used 1500 degree engine enamel, so im sure that sticks better than regular paint. it was like 5 bucks a can. used 2 cans for entire set. just spray in an even flowing pattern, in 1 direction.
We didnt have to tape off the tire, or mess with anything like that. We just sprayed it with the tire on, it blended in perfectly with the black tire. Overspray was not a problem. but of course dont directly paint the tire. When he eventually went and got new tires we just sprayed the lil part where the new weight was, as well as where the old weight had been. you couldnt even tell it had been re-sprayed, another plus for flat colors.
The problem with clear coat is it leaves a haze over the paint. Especially on black paint, or dark colors. And even MORE especially on a flat paint (Har Har YoungRookie!!) It turns it almost grey, and has a this weird, gross looking grey haze over it. Also, spraying a glossy paint is easy to leave lines and end up with runs or drips. This would suck and if you dont know how to paint its easy to get. Of course, powdercoating would be the best method, as it will Never come off and will be perfectly uniform. If i could get some low gloss (or flat) powdercoat for free i would probably go with that. but for 10 bucks, this was definitely the way to go.
The tires were AVS intermediate's, 205/40/15 i believe. If its important i can check and be absolutely sure for ya, but thats pretty close. and man, spoonfed, you need some lowering springs or coilovers :P
good luck man, any more questions just ask.

Ineednewtires, really appreciate your reply, i'll be sure to post pics after i get this done.. going to see how the powder coating situation will go, i may just spray it flatblack but i noticed you didn't spray a coat of primer.. not necessary or better? I was thinking of lowering it but its a daily car, i already got a turbo type r suspension integra for that. I was just wondering about the tires because i just got 225/60,15 for the se wheels.

woah, 225/60's are gonna ride tall... you know the profile is a ratio of the width right? so the wider you go, the profile automatically increases. of course they will still fit but they are gonna BULGE like mothers... doesnt matter if your just daily drivin' it around. and yea, the AVS's were 205/40/15... same as stock...
MAAAAN, why did you put all your cash into a teg? i bet in the end you woulda LOVED a RWD S13 turbo with suspension.... im sure its fast though... im not doggin' on ya i just love the rwd platform. i know the ITR handles really good, but the 240 will ultimately own!!! hahaha.... anyway, primer prolly wouldnt matter, i dunno, but the engine enamel says not to use it b/c its high heat and primer is not. wouldnt matter for wheels but i didnt wanna spend the extra cash and this turned out badass anyway.

Ineednewtires, the teg was actually my first car since 99.. recently i got the 240 after deciding i needed a daily commute car to school (1hr each way) and i decided on a s13. The stage 4 clutch on my teg hurts and so does the gas bill. I'm 100% sure i'll love a sr20 plus upgraded suspension on the 240 more then the integra definetly but i've dumped all my earnings and blood into my first car which i will keep forever. For the 225/60.. i held them next to my car's current wheel.. didn't look like it will be much higher but will buldge about 1/2 inch out..
Norcal drifter definetly thanks for the pic.. the wheel looks kinda funny for some reason in that pic.. do you have another angle?
