Hi there so I just curious as to if you can well the open diff on a stock KA24DE? Mine is automatic for the moment. Have a full sr20 black top for my s14 that I'm swapping next spring. But can you weld the auto open diff and not wreck it because its automatic?

You can only weld your diff if its not a VLSD. It'll most likely cause no damage to your transmission, but its still a terrible idea for the winter. Especially in Canadia.

Okay, actually it would be a lot better then open diff and I would be able to actually get out of 3 inchs of snow unlike open diff lol. Plus I want to weld my dif so bad so I can start learning how my s14 handles with it and get ready for next summer.

I can tell you from experience a welded diff in snow is way worse handling wise then a open diff. If you can find a VLSD and just swap that in. Neither of these will cause damage to your transmission right away but the welded may cause it to go out faster.

Mmm okay. like a 1.5 VLSD?

Like a J30 vlsd or z32 or s14 vlsd from an abs model.

I mean unless of course you have experience driven weldeds in winter weather, but even then your rear end may decide it wants to be your front bumper more often then not.

I actually prefer a welded diff in the snow. Sucks when you have an open diff and one wheel is spinning and the other could be getting you unstuck. The biggest problem with snow is people using crap tires. A good set of snow tires and you should hardly ever have a problem getting stuck.

I would wait though. no point in it unless you are getting it done free and are bored. You could always try to find a viscous and use that for the winter.

be very careful... welded dif in the snow without any differential experience is scary. it COMPLETELY changes the way the car handles and is very dangerous.
