I've searched and read countless write-ups on this but it seems like none of them are exact or maybe I'm just not understanding it. Your input is greatly appreciated!
First question is...do you line the indent on the shaft with the indent on the distributor PRIOR to installing the distributor into the engine like so:

or 1/8 off like this to make the two indents align, like in the above picture, when fully seated and installed into the engine:

I apologize but the FSM just states, "When installing distributor" which is pretty broad.
Also, like almost everyone that has created a thread on this topic....I cannot seem to get my ignition timing correct. Once I know when and how the detents should be aligned I should be able to figure it out. I can get it run and idle smoothly but I have to have the distributor fully advanced! And when it's fully advanced anytime I go into boost it boggggggsssss! Its horrible! But, when I move it the center between fully retarded and advanced, it actually creates boost! ....unfortunately my idle varies from 900-1200 until its fully warmed up and it's completely fine. I'm assuming that I'm off a tooth on the distributor??
So, once those detents are aligned correctly, all I need to do is be sure that the rotor is pointing at the number wire and we're good?
PM me or just reply on this thread please! I apologize for all the questions but I need answers and any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
