Yes I've used the search button, I've scoured the threads and haven't found the answer to my specific question.

Little bit of background info, the car is a 1995 240, but has obd2. I'm a california resident and legally pass smog (would like to keep it that way).

So I'm currently in the process of doing a conversion to manual on my 240sx, and I'm wanting to use the auto ecu (for now at least). Now I know that doing this will throw codes for obd2. My question is, when they go to do the non obd-2 test (since it's only required on vehicls 96 and up) will the codes from using an auto ecu still come up since they're doing an obd1 test and not obd2? Will the vehicle fail?

It will visually fail due to the codes popping up and having a CEL on.

Is there a way to make the check engine light not come on? And even if there is will it still fail? Also, as far as swapping a manual ecu in, http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/ECU-ID.PDF if you look at the 95 ECU's for manuals, it says they're all obd2, wondering if that's true? Would really hate to buy an obd1 ecu for an obd2 D:

Yeah, because the smog tech person won't find a non-working CEL suspicious at all.

Because they usually turn the key to accessories and check all the dash lights to make sure everything is good, specially the check engine light bulb. Just get a manual ECU...

yeah that's what I'm planning on doing, but still need an answer to my other question.

Just a suggestion man. I don't know shit about smog testing lol. I register my car in Florida (to my GA address, still don't know how that worked out) because they don't have emissions testing for anything prior to 2009. Shit, they don't even need to see the car to register it, I could be driving down the street burning styrofoam in a barrel on the trunk lid and they wouldn't have a clue.

OP: IIRC 95's before a certain date are obd1 and the rest are obd2.

95 is OBD-I testing only so it'll just be visual and sniffer test.

Then why post in the thread? Useless shit like your post really throws somebody off when somebody is truly trying to find an answer for their question. But instead, we have somebody who has no idea what they're talking about throwing out suggestions that will make OP look stupid and shady to the smog tech.

OP, find out whether your car is OBD2 or not and go from there.

^Also, make sure you've read up on that.

Well I know my car is obd2, like I originally posted, my main question now is which one of the 95 manual ecu's can i use from this http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/ECU-ID.PDF they all say they're obd2 so any of them? It just doesn't make sense because I know some of the 95's for obd1 so why would all the manual ecu's be obd2?

Since I'm doing a conversion to manual I can't just read my current ecu serial, maybe someone who has a 1995 s14 that came manual stock AND obd2 can tell me their ecu serial?

hahaha how will the smog tech KNOW? Because he's not a member of Zilvia, which means chances are he's not a FUCKING idiot.

remove the bulb and the CEL wont illuminate when you put the car in the ON position (not accessory.. just correcting you, Fliprayzin).

Install the proper ECU and call it a day.

Again, I need to know which ECU is the proper ECU. Read above.

I would assume you need the matching year ECU for your year car with MT, and possibly CA model... I believe there is a difference but dont hold me to it, I havent been smog legal in decades.

If you look at the site I gave, there are four different model ecu's for my year. They all say they're obd2, I need to know if that is true, because I have an obd2 car myself.

How about you smog it first and then convert it? Worry about this again in 2 years, if you still have the car.

I just had it smogged about a month ago so I do have 2 years until I have to smog it, but I still don't want an engine light flashing, so I want to get the correct ecu in there over the next few months.
