I am sure this question has been asked before but I searched and couldnt find exactly what i was lookin for.

Ok I need a new exhaust. Mine is started to get scuffed and not nice not to mention the piping is starting to get old. I have decided I am going to get the HKS Hipower.

Now here is my question. I am going to be putting an SR20DET into my S14 in the near future, but i need the exhaust now. So i figured the smart thing to do would be get the 85mm exhaust that way it will be perfect for the swap. Or is my thinking flawed here?

Now the other part of the question is how well will the 85mm exhaust bolt up to the stock header? Will it work no probs or is there gonna be some issues??

Thanks
Chad

Or is my thinking flawed here? No but it will probably be really load and get you more attention then you desire.

85mm exhaust bolt up to the stock header? - actually it will be bolting up to your cat but to answer your question yes the bolt holes will match on each flang. I would suggest getting a high flow cat while your at it, do us a favor and help out the environment.

actually i'd vote against a highflow cat there since your adding a 2nd catalyst (the s14's is close coupled on the exhaust manifold)

Thanks for the info. I thought that the cat and the header on an S14 was a single unit. My bad. I have never looked so it wouldnt surprise me that they arent.

on a side note how bad is the larger diameter piping going to affect my performance until i get the SR??

You won't notice a difference. With the perfect exhaust you MIGHT gain 5-10 rwhp, with an exhaust that is 'too big' you will probably gain 0-5. Who cares, the car is slow either way and you won't be able to feel a difference in your butt dyno.

^Agree although i have seen dyno charts that prove that big exhaust on the KA isnt bad he gained like 10-12 rwhp with the 3' diameter piping on his NA KA
