What's the difference between your average "motor, trans, ECU, and harnesses" and an entire front clip.
And how much would I expect to pay for say a S13 SR-20 red-top front clip.
Sorry for such a stupid question but any help would be appreciated.

No question in this forum is stupid. Everyone are here to help and answer any question. Anyway, front clip is basically the front half of the car with or without body panels and including the engine still mounted in the car's engine bay. This is the way to go to get a complete engine. Price runs around $2,800-$3,200 for an s13 front clip depends where you purchase it.

So if I was to get a s13 front clip from Japan with body panels for a s13 coupe then that would have everything I need to do the sil-eighty conversion. If so how much with body panels would all this run me if anybody happens to know right off hand.
Basically I am looking at what it is going to take ($$$) to convert a s13 over to a sil-eighty with a SR-20 in it (just for parts, I got the install taken care of).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but a front clip will convert you over to right hand drive. Which would be really cool for raceing ppl at street lights but would suck for passing on a 2 lane road.

Yes, you could get your US spec 240sx professionally cut the front half and weld in a japan s13 front half. That way, you will have a right hand drive car.

Yeah you can do that. Problem is locating one. You might have to order it in advance through an importer. In cost, it all depends where you order it from. I noticed from all the popular sr20det sellers online, they all charged way too much. They make tons of profit through the sr engine they sell. Just keep looking out for a good deal.

[email protected] give this guy an email he is selling s13 complete fronts with 3 projector lights and body panels for $3600 shipped, this should be everything you need to do a sil-eighty conversion (or just silvia conversion), and get an sr up in your beloved 240.
and on the subject of welding on the front thats not neccessary, you can just put in the entire dash and steering linkage and what not, this has been done many many times, including people who got a skyline gts-t front clip and put that in their 240's cockpit. i remember seeing like 20 threads about this on freshalloy.

Though I think it would be kinda neat to have a right hand drive, I would just have the panels and so forth taken off the japan clip then put onto mine. That way I could have sil-eighty, SR, and left hand drive. But Im just scared of what all that's gonna cost me. I have free installation so that will help a little bit but that clip will might be just a little too expensive. I will e-mail UnstableHybrids tonight and see what they have to tell me.
-How much does sil-eighty conversions generally run?
Maybe it would be cheaper to get the motor stuff then just get a conversion kit from VIS or somebody?

NEVER buy a VIS kit, if you do it do i tright, just get the OEM metal fenders and front bumper and lights, maybe an aftermarket hood if you want carbon fibre or something or to savemoney and weight. you can do it all for under $1500 probably, or that guy's clips sound like they should include good body panels, in which case it'd be everything you'd need.
interestingly enough...you can attach the bumper and sideskirts and what not with tons and tons of heavy duty zipties pretty funny, ghetto sil-80

RHD - ugh! I still haven't mastered shifting with my RIGHT hand... you want to try w/ your left?
mistert - a buddy of mine who is a huge JDM-ophile was telling me that all the real drifters attach their from bumpers, etc. w/ zip ties so that when they hit a wall they don't break, they just fall off. ... something about planning for failure scared me about this...

Actually I think they leave only the center bolts on the bumper and attach the corners with zip ties for regular driving. When they go drifting they cut the zip ties so that the bumper can flop around when the hit curbs, guard rails, spectators, ect...

That explains why some drifters use zip ties....
