I want information from a body technician. Im an auto technician that bought a 95 240sx. Ive read multiple forums on this subject and know personally about 3 of these same cars with the same problem. Ive tried replacing (adjusting) the rubber stops. Ive re rivited multiple times to adjust the latching housing up and down multiple times. Im one more rivet job from selling this car. The closer i put the latch the bigger the gap I have. The farther away I put the latch the smaller the gap but then the trunk wont latch.... please help.

ya talking about the trunk or hood???? 0_o

for the trunk since i was rear ended before i purchased the car it was pushed in and wouldnt shut, would try slamming it and all that but still wouldnt latch so i had a buff ass friend pull on the rear more outward and WHALA closed perfect! ya could try pulling the rear away from the center of the car and that might align it up,

and for front hood i heard if its not popping without pulling up on the hood to just purchase new rubber stops from dealership and adjust from there*

hope any info helps man!

Im talking about the trunk: I have a friend that has been Tuning Nissans for years and he told me this. The latch housing is supposed to be tac welded from the factory. My OEM latch housing was removed at some time and replaced with a brand new OEM housing. It was never re welded so thats where my Rivet jobs came in. He thinks it takes a profesional body tech to align the weld job and trunk parts all together. Is there no other hope for me to do it. Im not a small person ive tried even smashing down the whole back end of the trunk but that only helped a little bit. Its at least a inch and a half gap originally and is now down to about an inch. Still very noticeable and very annoying. The body shop estimated over 200 to have my trunk re aligned but that is not worth it. I feel like this should be an easier fix. What it comes down to is I can make the gap smaller. However, when I make the gap smaller it ends up not latching. I keep the gap and it closes with no problems and latches fine.

If you can see the latch with the trunk closed while you're in there. Un do the latch so it's free and then hook it to the trunk. Close the lid and then mark where the latch is and then see if you need spacers or anything in order to mount it in premium spot. Then mount it up and should work great.

I actually tried to rivet the housing with the trunk latched and gap in the proper position. What happened after I did that was the trunk didnt latch. I then tried slamming it and still no latching. So i removed the plastic cover that goes over the inner edge of the body frame that the trunk lines up with on the lower portion of the very back. Then I lowered the rubber spacers and tried slamming it again. Then i used all my weight to bend the frame of the back of the car down but keeping the latching mechanism in the same spot... Still no latching. It wasnt until i removed the rivets and raised the mechanism 1/8 in up that it then latched. However the gap was still there afterwards.
