Cressida drift car? Thats a pretty original idea. What do you guys think?

I was just surfing around looking at AE86's and saw that....

My friend has a Cressida, it is totally beat to shit, but it's RWD and such, I was thinking of getting one and swapping a Supra engine into it, I didn't really look into it, but that was kind of my idea. I just think it might be a ton of fabricating, and I don't think there is too much aftermarket support for the Cressida...still would be cool though. I believe there was a turbo model produced, I might be wrong I am not sure....but I remeber something about a turbo engine stock.

More than you can afford pal.....Cressida

Yeah go for it! An engine swap's done already and it's got a five-speed. With all the new parts it has I'd say it's a deal. I don't think the supra swap is hard to do, I remember hearing about people who have done it.

cressidas are cool. I actually like the same year Lexus. The one that looks like the Cressida, but is a Lexus model. I forget what their Japanese versions are. I've seen so many fixed up ones. There's a black one running in D1 too.

my friend use to own all the Honda boys with his 91 cressida w/ 100 shot. It was funny as hell!

whats the diff between and chaser and cressida? Cressida isn't exactly an "appealing" car....at least not to me,but apparently I'm missing something here

Cressidas and Chasers rock the same way Cefiros and Laurels rock. Seeing 4-door box cars drifting is badass. It's just cool to see something other than 240s once and a while.

Yah 1jizzy and 2jizzy is more or less a straight swap...

I kinda want a Cressy (friend has one) but my car is enough for me as it is.

Good project if you can get a jizzy in there and make it legal. :)

Cressy + Slam + Flares + Deep Dish = SICK

The 85-88' models came with the 5M-GE Engine and the 89'-92 came with the 7M-GE. I use to own a 86' MKII Supra and they basicly have the same engine. Not much fabricating at all to do an engine swap. Pretty much fits right in there. The major downfall would be that they only come in auto so you gotta do a 5spd swap and the interior is kinda dated. No turbo engines produced in the US that I know of. Nice project car though. I would get back into toyotas, but I have bigger plans underway. Something that'll blow out all these mad tyte JDM swaps. muahahaha <-evil laugh

that's not a cressida, it's our equivalent of a Lexus. I forget which model it is. Made the same years as the Cressida though.

My dad bought his Cressida Brand new back in 89. We had it for years until it was stolen and stripped in 94. I remember that thing was pimp, and strong. It was destined to be my first car, I use to bug my dad about it, and he promised it would. Until it was stolen and stripped.

Sounds like the thieves did the dirty work. You'd pull everything out of a heavy car like that anyways. Did they take the sound deadening out too? :bigok:

IIRC, the MX83 Toyota Cressida's closest japanese equivalent is the JZX81 Chaser/Mark II/Cresta.

The car in the picture is a Toyota Cresta.

no, the foglight with the yellow bulb is the first give away. Cressida's don't have that. I know for sure because I was looking for Cressidas a while back, and realized that I liked the old Lexus models better.

The Lexus that looks like that is a FWD Camry clone. Lexus ES250. Actually it was sold in Japan as the Toyota Windom.

Keep in mind that in Japan these cars had two different rooflines available - the traditional style we got as the Cressida (*X83), and the frameless window "hardtop" version (*X81). The *X81 cars were "sportier" and offered with the hotter engines (1JZ-GTE!) while the *X83 usually had the less powerful engines like the 7M-GE we got, or the 1G-GE 2.0 six.

The older Cressidas like the one on eBay there did have a manual option AFAIK, but don't count on finding one. Manual swap in one of these MX70s should be simple. Manual swap in a newer MX83 is HARD unless you get a JDM manual clip - the MA70 Supra transmission, pedal box, etc. don't line up with the chassis at all.

That white 1JZ powered car looks REALLY nice, got any more details? It just needs a nice suspension upgrade to round it all out, and some wheels with the right offset... JDM small bumpers would be nice too.

My roommate has a cressida, and I've been trying FOREVER, to buy that sucker off him...

The only problem with cressida's is that 5 speeds arnt that easy to locate, and the thing weighs 3500 lbs.....
