I have a 1990 s13 with an auto trans, and I have been having issues for over a year now with hard shifting and when I first put it in drive it takes a few seconds before it kicks in. Could I have a bad TCM? Or is it the trans going out? Any help would be great!

On the driver side wheel well under the hood there is a small rectangular silver box, it's a resistor that is suppose to help the tranny shift smooth check and see if it's still good per FSM

That would be the TCM. .. how do you test it?

No, the TCM is located inside the car under the dash of the passenger side.
The box im talking about is a tiny box UNDER THE HOOD on the driver side wheel well with 2 wires comming out of it.

Do you happen to know what that thing is called? I might just replace it anyways the car is over 20yrs old and stuff is going to start failing soon...

Well I went down to just see where this little relay thing was and I found it. I unplugged it to see if it made any difference and holy crap! When disconnected my trans shifts harder! So that thing is working!

I know where the TCM is just don't know if that might be the problem or not. I don't want to change out the tranny and find out it still has the same issues..
