I have tried searching to see if anyone has done it but with no luck. Does anyone know if anyone has done a rb26 w/auto tranny in an s14 swap? Im trying to find out if its even possible, how hard the wiring will be, and how much power it may be able to handle.
To give you an idea...the car will be a street driven car. Not looking to have a lot of horse power and def not for race. Just a clean simple street car that looks good.
Any help or links would be great....thanks.

I would be easy if you could get ahold of an GTR Auto ECU, but thats impossible since the GTR's never came with an Auto.
If the car is gonna be a DD and not raced or tracked then why have a RB26?
Street Cred? Because Florida?
If you want an RB just get an RB25 since they came in Auto

Actually the only reason is because we already have two rb26 motors. One is fully built and the other is stock. Before my buddies motorcycle accident we were doing the manual swap. Due to the accident he can no longer drive a manual. We can sell everything we have and do an auto supra swap...but he has always loved the RB motor...so im trying to see if there is anyway he may be able to keep everything and just find an auto tranny.
So no...not street cred....not because florida....because im trying to help a friend out.

Let's reply fully. A older lady switched in front of him causing him to hit her on his bike. After he hit her both his patellas were ripped out of his legs, cracked his helmet and caused severe brain swelling, and he died 3 times on the way to the hospital that was about 1000ft away. So not "because Florida" more like "because disabled"

Is it an auto chassis? Would make wiring a lot easier.
I don't see why you can't use a RB25 auto trans.

Sell RB's, buy yourself a RB25 with Auto trans. Problem solved. Or as S14DB said, use an RB25 auto trans on the 26.

You can use an auto rb25 Trans. My friend has an rb26 bell housing on his 25 so I know they have the same pattern. I after that use a standalone to control trans and bam. Custom driveshaft and mount also

The s14 he has now is manual chassis...but he has been looking at a few 240's with auto. I figured it may make the swap easier as well. Ill check on the rb25 tranny. He has an Apexi-FC stand alone and I guess I will need to check on the wiring part to get the 26 motor to work with the 25 auto tranny. Also may need to see if the mount for the tranny is the same. Thanks guys. Any more random info will help in case Ive missed anything. Ill see what he wants to do.

welp we get a lot of florida fails around here so, I wouldnt be suprised if it was for street cred. which is exactly what your post made it sound like.

ECU controls the Shift points of the Tranny so you would need a Auto ECU for the engine you would want to run.

Is there a stand alone that will control a Auto for the RB? Never delt with autos.

You sure the TCU doesn't control the transmission?

Thats a good point...ill have to check and see about that. Ill probabaly try and get a hold of Apexi to see if its possible with what we have. Ive never dealt with an auto set-up either.

Maybe...... lol I think they have to work together
But i do know you cannot use a Power FC for an Auto cuz the tranny wont shift.
like I said im not a Auto guru...lol

I know the AEM EMS has a lot of features for automatics, it'd probably be easier than messing with the PFC.
Wasn't the dude with the orange 280z (rb25) running a 350 auto?

Maybe...... lol I think they have to work together The only working together they do is the ECU tells the TCU that the engine is running. On OBDII cars the TCU does feed diagnostics data back to the ECU.
On auto cars the major sensors have splices in them. The data is split to the TCU and it runs its own show. It knows the load, TPS, coolant temp, ect.
This is why I wanted to know if the chassis was auto cause most of the wiring is in place.
But i do know you cannot use a Power FC for an Auto cuz the tranny wont shift.
You just have to jump one wire to the TCU, Same with the AEM. There is a writeup on I believe KAT on how to wire up the engine running wire.
like I said im not a Auto guru...lol
Then why did you interject in the first place?

you can mate the rb25 auto trans to the 26 if you want they bolt up the same way the 5speed does so theres an option for ya.

Thanks a lot guys...im going to take the info u guys have helped with and see what he wants to do. I think the RB25 auto tranny and AEM will be the start of what he may want to do and I should be able to talk him into selling the manual shell and get a cheap auto shell to make the wiring a little more user friendly. Ill keep u guys updated and please if anyone else has anything to add please feel free. Quite a few things came up that I would not have considered until it may have been too late. Thanks again.

you could simply bolt up a 25 trans on the 26

Yes, he is running a turbo 350. His name is Jon.
Also, you guys need to get this project going. Tommy is a great dude and deserves this to work!

the easiest way in my opinion would be do a 25 Auto trans. with an AEM EMS v2 (the Version 1 box doesn't control automatic gear boxes that well, that was always AEM's issue with all the automatic supra guys) OR pick up a PRO-EFI from the guys at Sound performance and they will take care of you.
For wiring if you can find an automatic S14 (s13s might work too) in a junkyard. take the shifter, and some of the wiring stuff to it, I have the wiring writen down on paper somewhere of what i needed when i converted a 89 5spd 240 to an automatic 240SX. I can see if i can dig it up. Other then general engine wiring and driveshaft/mounts should be straight forward.
Second easiest thing to do, is find a TH350/TH400 from your older GM RWD cars. and have an adapter made to run on an RB engine (this might be availible already) As these require NO COMPUTER to run may be more cost effective then your $1800 AEM EMS or your $2500+ PROEFI.
If you guys do go through with this, make sure to build yourself a good trans cooler as heat is the man enemy for autos and if/when they get hot they will start giving you problems. You may also want to look into running a possible 300ZX TT Auto gearbox, as i thought those may bolt up to RB's (maybe someone can confirm that.
Just keep in mind, transmission upgrades. I'm not sure if anyone makes upgrades for the RB25 Automatic trans (shift kits, torque converters, etc) Might want to look into even a Supra/Aristo auto (A340E transmission) they make anything you could need for that and people almost give those away.
