Hey guys
So basically i keep blowing racks like its my job. Iv been putting in new remand racks. I have an sr powered s14. Im running rt tuning knuckles with the godspeed rack spacer on one side and a pbm washer on the other side. Im also running the chase bays lines and tank. On sunday i went threw like 3 sets of tires in about 2 hours. Going into the bank went to full lock and the power steering died. Thats all the action this new rack saw. Idk what the deal is, this is my 5th rack in a season and a half. Help me out or has anyone had these issues.
Thanks guys

sounds like your rack is getting over extended blowing the seals out. Take out those spacers and try running it again.

Is it only blowing out going one direction more than going the opposite?

Kinda need the spacers because the tie rods till be to short for the knuckles. Either direction i have blown them. One time it only died in one direction. Anyone know info on a manual rack? I have never seen one before.

is it an offset spacer or something? arent those known for wearing out racks extremely fast? why not just get the right tie rods?

Na its just a strait spacer that add like a 1" length. Im running stock tie rods. They were the longest. Tein ones are like a half an inch shorter

How would that fix his power steering?
OP, you do NOT want manual steering with knuckles. That's how my track car is currently setup, and it is no fun.

^ try shooting a pyrometer before and after.
what's the safe zone & max temp threshold on these racks?

If you need longer inner tie rods you could run the I30/Maxima ones everyone's using these days.
Do you lose all ps fluid when this happens?
Are the outer tie rods hitting the bump stops at full lock the way they should?

Considering he's using modded knuckles, I'm taking a stab that the bumpstops are shaved/cut/gone.

Bump stops are gone, and not i dont loose fluid. But im gonna go ahead and say that i need a cooler and that is probably why.

I'd run a cooler and then weld the stops back on but not at factory location. Turn the wheels where you want them then weld stops on. That's what I did and was told to do so by my mentor while in japan with my knuckles.

Is it possible that the rack spacer is simply causing your steering rack to travel way further than it was ever intended to?

Looks to me like it's pushing the rack in about an inch further than it was designed to.

Ahh man gotta have some sort of bump stops there... No bueno to have the rack bottom out on itself.
Get some bump stops welded on so the tie rod hits at full lock. Plenty of dudes run no PS cooler without a problem. If you still have all your fluid maybe the ps pump is bad.

so your rack is not leaking fluid but you have no Power assist?
If thats the case I would check out your pump.

That picture that was posted of the rack spacer makes more sense. The rack is probably hyper extending itself. Also looks like bump stops are gonna be needed, and a cooler. Im pretty much 100% sure the pump is fine because the last rack that went bad at the previous event i switched pumps out to see if it was that. All of the other cars at rt that have the same setup of knuckles are s13s. So im the only s14 and the only one having issues. What are the best tie rods to run instead of this dumb spacer. Thank you all, and does anyone have the pbm knuckels on their s14?

Reviving this real quick to ask a question. I use Tein spacers and I've blown two racks. If you use spacers, do you need to adjust the bumpstops a little? I wouldn't think so, but here I am with no power steering.
