The stereo in my '91 hatchback SE sucks donkey balls. I need to do Reciever (replace that shallow sounding, worthless piece), speakers, and anything else to make it at least bearable.  Why did Nissan use such a worthless stereo...my mom's honda has a better system and its  DX.  What are good speakers to fit in the stock (funky size) Nissan holes?  Is it hard to replace the parts on the stereo....the rear spkrs seem to be locked in some sort of plastic box..

the rear speakers r easy to remove
take off the screw and the thing is held by 2 clips

Anything 4x6 will fit.  However I cut a piece of wood to fit on the front door panel to hold some 6 1/2's  Sonded much better.  you can mount some tweeters on the pillars too.

better yet...place the tweeter in the upper left corner of your interior side panel for your door...you don't want the high to be totally separated from your mids...if you place it near the mids then the high and mids will seem to come from the same speakers but each on is still distinct...

The front speakers are 4"? Is their anyway to change that...can you even get respectable sound? How deep can you go...will speakers only so deep fit?

misnomer

4x6&quot; to be precise. Not a good shape for respectable bass <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> Your best bet is to do as Arcane said, make some baffles and fit some 6.5&quot; speakers. Or better yet, get some decent 4x6 speakers and a &nbsp;sub.

I dunno how somebody got the Kappa 4x6 plate speakers up front, #### or in back. I had to trim my rear speakers to get them to fit, and I found it just as easy to mount some component 6.5&quot; up front as it would have been to fenagle the plates up there.

That is all.
