Hey guys so I've been doing a bit of research on clear lights and HID'S and projectors and all that headlight stuff for my zenki. I found a vast amount of information, however something I didn't find any information is how the lack of flutes on the clear covers would react with HID's (projector or not). Another thing I'm wondering about is a fix to how a normal halogen bulb would project light well without the flutes. http://zilvia.net/f/chat/404630-zenki-headlight-black-out-r33-style-pictures.html i'm interested in doing this partial black out housing look, but I am pretty worried about visibility.

Visibility should decrease, there is no fix except for a hhalogen projector. if you get hids, make sure you retrot hid projectors as they are different. You will lose light output with black housing but i do not know how much.

Thanks for the reply, as far as projectors go I was going to go with 3" Car BI-Xenon H1 H4 H7 Universal HID Projector Lens Kit Angel Eye + 2 BALLAST! | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Car-BI-Xenon-H1-H4-H7-Universal-HID-Projector-Lens-Kit-Angel-Eye-2-BALLAST-/160780332487?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item256f412dc7&vxp=mtr) these eventually since they come with the HID'S, but I do have a final question. As far as drop in HID'S without the projector, if it had clear lenses and fully blacked out housing would it still blind oncoming/be too weak of light?

HIDs + clear lenses + black housing will still blind oncoming traffic. Better to work a little more and retrofit the projectors. They'll look better too. :)

Well, you're just gonna drop in HIDs with no projector, then black out the reflectors, I wouldnt be surprised if it fails. You need to leave the reflectors to, well reflect the light forward. If you black the reflectors out, how do you expect the light to project forward? The light reflects out of the bulbs and get bounced forward.

If you dont use projectors, the only fix you can really do so you wont blind the fuck off people, is adding a larger casper shield. But even that is a band-aid fix.

^I just lower my headlights so the light is not indirect to the drivers mirrors or on-coming traffic.

Doesnt do jack and shit. The light pattern on halogen housings, without the flutes, blow the fuck out. There is no hard cut off and you get a lot of glare.

the output on clear lens with HIDs isnt great. ive never been flashed by oncoming traffic or pulled over because of them. id say my beam is aimed pretty low, might try to raise it a bit.

I had a buddy that did the HID with just clear lenses thing in Oki. I fucking hated him when he gets behind me, imagine how much worst it was facing him.

This is what they look like without the lenses, only picture i have. They look OKAY close up on the wall, but trust me they turn into crap for road lighting. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn257/KILLERSKITTLE/F547CAAE-C482-4C37-B815-871B1FDBDD10-9469-000008C263CF5F8D.jpg
I highly recommend a retrofit, if your going to do it, do it RIGHT.
This how its supposed to look ;)

How are the projectors behind fluting? I saw someone do that on the Zenki thread and I was immediately curious. I don't like how projectors look behind clear covers with the Zenki headlights.

Fluting didnt really affect it much from what I saw. When I did my retrofit, I followed a guide in HIDplanet and the guy kept his OEM covers. Cut off was good with it on. Go in there and look up TSX projector retrofit on a 240sx.

I've done several zenki retrofits as well, you can find mine on hidplanet/ here on the "lighting thread". Projector retrofits in zenkis are very straight forward.
