First off I've already searched and it seems like everyone has a different opinion.
I have 93 240sx thats completely stock and I need to get a new set of tires, it has 195 60/15 michilins on now. Im wondering if I go to the 205's ddo I need to get 55 sidewall or stick to 60. Im also not sure what would be a good all around tire, everyones ad says that there tire is the best. I drive 30 miles to and from school everyday, and then deliver for work. Id like something that doesnt wear out to fast, a little sticker than whats on now, a much stiffer sidewall, and below $100 per tire. My car is basically for commuting but I do some weekend auto-x, parking lot drifting, and stuff like that. Any info would be appreciated.
Get a Kumho Ecsta 712.. I hate those tires, but they offer what you want: better stick than stock, not bad tire wear, and cheap price. You can get 205/60... That's what I used to run on my stockers. :)

well on some stock 240's came 205 60 15... so.. but if you want performance and dont care much about speedo wrongness throw on some 205 50 15 azenis or s03's

205-50-15 = unsightly wheel gap on stock suspension, yuck, it just looks wrong..

Just call your car a monster truck like I do and call it a day.

I've been looking online for the Ecsta 712's in 205/ 60r15, but I can only find it in 205/ 55r15. Id get the Azenis, but I've heard there terrible in rain, and dont last long. Im poor so these tires will have to last for a while.

I have both azenis and 712s
Here are my impressions.
Azenis have much more grip than 712, much better steering response, and much less sidewall flex, but they get pretty loud (WHINY) when they are worn down. It is obvious why, the azenis way like twice as much as the 712, they are just reinforced like crazy. Ive had the azenis on for about a month and they are wearing faster than the 712s. The 712s are better in the rain. But i wouldn't say its that much of a diference. Of course the azenis' lack of void space makes it plow through standing water of substantial depth. For the most part its not a problem. Except at 80+ in heavy rain i don't worry much about hydroplaning. They are better than some regular touring tires ive driven on in the rain.
The 712 is a good comprimise tire. Decent dry weather grip. Decent feedback, very quiet. Good wet weather traction. Better than average sidewall. But, driving hard with the 712s i still rolled onto the sidewalls. They were controllable in all conditions and situations.
Conclusion:
712s = better than average tire
Azenis = better than average sports tire
Depending on where you live (how much rain or snow if ever) and what kind of driving (hard, soft, big pimpin mackin on ho's) you should make your choice.

So far from what I've seen on tirerack, Im stuck between the Yokohama AVS dBS2 which are all season, but seem to rate better in everything. Or the Yokohama AVS ES100 summer that are rated slightly lower but seem to have an AA traction rating. Would the summer have a stiffer sidewall? Anyone ever run either? So far I've just been checking with 205/ 60r15.

also added Bridgestone Potenza RE950, the specs all add to better than the others and there $80. Anyone run these?

Don't think I could handle running on a 50 sidewall all the time. Until I get suspension at least. So the Azenis are out of the question, I at first assumed the 55 sidewall on 205 would be about the same maybe a little shorter than the 195/ 60 since the sidewall size is a ratio of the width.
get a 205/55/15 if you are looking for a compromise between Daily driver and occasional autocross. I'm running the kumhos and they're great, especially in the rain. I really don't have anything to compare them to other than the cheapass continental gt's that came with the car

How much smaller are the 205/ 55r15's than the 60 sidewall. And also does anyone have an opinion on the tires listed above. As of now Im leaning towards the bridgestones going by the ratings from tirerack.com.
