last week while I was driving to work my car stalled after coming off the freeway. In the past months it had some trouble starting but only a couple times. I can't find what is wrong. I already replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, battery, and fuel pump. I can hear the fuel pump prime and I have power going to the lights and everything. It can't be the ignition or the starter because the car is still cranking it just wont turnover right? This is my DD and I have already had it down for a week... I can't afford to rent a car longer. So before I take it to a shop, can anyone help?

I would say replace your coolant temp sensor, it sounds stupid but it always seems to be the case whenever I see this as the problem, that or the main vein vacume line that runs against the firewall above the valve cover.

Ill try it tomorrow. I never thought that would be a problem.
i just had a a problem like that my injector seals where toast. have you checked them yet?

pull a spark plug wire and check for spark, the internal coil could have taken a crap on the distributor..
a external coil can easily fix that..
if you have spark, and you have fuel injecting into the engine, then your timing is off..
you can hear the fuel pump priming, but can you see fuel squirt out of the injectors on crank up? pull the rail and check really quick... disconnect the coil of course, just so it doesnt ignite.. but a quick crank or two, you will see fuel spitting out

Id say its a crank sensor.

I haven't checked the injectors yet.. I will try the crank and CT sensor first. I havent checked the injectors yet but if the sensors don't work then I will take them out and make sure that the seals are good and to see if they are squirting on start. Thanks for the help, hopefully the problem is just one of these things.

I wouldnt go so far as to saying that it can't be the starter. Even with it turning over the starter could still be bad. i would still get that checked out if you havent found an answer, it may not be it but why throw that out. check all the easy stuff first (or cheapest) then go with the harder stuff (or most expensive). why throw money out there that you may not need...

have you checked ecu codes yet? I would do that first. should point you in the general area. If no codes i would check cylinder compression. And never rule anything out. go through the basic tune-up stuff first (i.e. check for spark, vacuum leaks etc.). 9 out of 10 times it is something simple that is overlooked.

I have checked the ecu codes and it is giving me the knock sensor is bad... but I have been getting that code each time the wires to my ecu are loose. I guess I can change it anyways since I have it lying around the house already. I have done most of the basic tune up stuff already, I have an extra maf so I am going to try that and air filter. I will also be checking the starter and replace those sensors as well. Ill post what happens tomorrow.

as a rule of thumb you dont want loose wiring of any kind. which could be the problem itself. are the wires loose in the ecu plug? As for the stalling, does it start back up immediately? what is your idle running normally?

I changed the CT sensor and air filter and still no luck. The wiring is loose on the plug that connects to the ecu. I will check that to make sure it is plug in tight. other than that I checked all the hoses and none of them looked cracked or like they were leaking. I also replaced the fuel pump and can hear it prime but it still was no good trying to start. Before it stalled my car had idle around 1500 and after the stalling it never started back up.

So my car is finally running again. It ended up being the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump but it wasn't priming anymore. The fuse was good but I forgot to check the relay. After cleaning up the connection the fuel pump was priming again and the car started. It feels so good to finally have it running again. I hope this helps someone with a similar problem in the future.
