Hey guys so i have a s15 sr20 with forged pistons and rods just wondering what does it take to put a vvl head onto.my engine i went to.mazxworx and they want 2100 for the conversion im going to using a aem just wondering if there is a cheaper way

the conversion isnt cheap but you get SOOOOOOOOO much power

better chance is to buy a vvl head used get it machined right then just buy parts after parts might save 300 bucks but it isnt a cheap swap

Like I said in your other post, it's not cheap. Do your home work before you do anything. Research is your best friend.

As far as electronics go ... I built my own ECU from scratch .. a MS3X though theres also PNP MS units too ... I am very impressed with the MS3X stuff.. You can run full seq injection with COP up to 8 Cyl and you can wideband every cyl if you wish for trim control per cyl .. Now with VVL as soon as it turns on it seems to spool the turbo instantly .. So I am programing mine to turn on at 130kpa or around 4PSI as its just getting going and it will spool from there regardless of RPM .. Its a very good way to go and if you build your own you can do it for about $450-500 or you can buy them ready to go for around $650.. What you can do with them is about limitless ..

PNP unit

MS3X

Hope this info helps for electronics ... For super cheap you can use a Nistune board... I have installed a bunch of those as well.. Just stock ECU has 8K RPM limit and tuning outcome is not as good as standalone ... MS3 I do think is a Duel core CPU there VERY fast ..

I used both the 20V solenoid and 20V CAS .. Both factory parts then you plug the bottom of the head and drill tap and AN fitting the side and get oil pressure from filter housing .. Thats the cleanest way to go IMO .. Not sure if its the cheapest though the factory CAS and solenoid where not cheap I think but then again this was long ago.. I think I was the 2nd person to do the 52F/1N5 behind Nick Hunter .. 7 years ago! So I'm sure price's have changed a over the years it may not be as bad anymore ... You can check with Greg @ GSPEC.com .. He has the inside ordering @ Nissan and Nissan Motorsports whos the gateway for all this parts into the States ...

So if i were to piece it togther how muxh would it cost as far as hardware no electronics

Going to est high here...

VVL head is 800 "entire motor"

SR16VE N1 Oil Pump is around 200 from [email protected] "has in stock usually"

$500 VET CAS - Some guy high on crack has one on ebay for that price I want to say I paid $300 or so..

Single VVL Solenoid - $250-300 ??

But also consider this in your build... and I hate to go back to the electronics but it does make a difference ..

So if you Go with an MS3X you can run a Crank Trigger .. The Wheel is $35 and the sensor is $28 ... So for $63 you don't need to spend $500 on a CAS ..

Also the MAP sensor is internal and is good for 22.5PSI of boost or you can get a 4bar GM map sensor for around $50 or less .. No need to get an expensive MAF .. So my point is depending on how you do your electronics its possible to end up with a overall savings and a much better ECU ..

Here's how I'm doing mine ... BTW this wheel and sensor is accurate from 50 rpm to 22k rpm

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/169480_4162296814359_1168401365_o.jpg

Heres how I did the bolt .. Drill and Tap for 1/2-20 .. Stainless Bolt and Lock Washer ... Its not going anywhere.. BTW the bolt was tapered in the center so it was a no brainier to get it centered ..

Holy crap I thought you would have had this car done long ago?

Only because of price.. Yes I would.. AEM is very good as well but you can do just about anything with an MS3X now .. Wide band and EGT every cyl for independent cyl tuning even..

Ya I know but I got in the desert sports and got a 75k long travel 22" mid engine buggy with a GTIR motor .. Now going to be a VVL head on GTiR block .. Driving on the roads or track is so watered down after flying through the desert with hills and jumps an no track for forced to stay on... I will finish it one day... It's been garaged the entire time.. I might finish it to sell it.. Not sure..

I done my Ve cylinder head conversion with out any version kits
I'm using a p12 cylinder head tho so i didn't need to
Sr20vet + 6262 + e85 + 44psi = 621kw at the rear wheels

You did it the correct way.. P12 heads are much better.. Way better cooling .. Good job :) I like it.. Any pictures ?

Well that does help but MS3X can be built for around $500 I don't think your discount can touch that...Also MS ECUs are for serious hackers too and helps to have an electronics and computer background.. I'm sure AEM is way easier.. It's a tuff call .. Depends how much time you want to spend too.

Check out my for sale thread if you're interested in a p12 head + other VVL build items. I need the cash so feel free to haggle down my asking price

I recently pulled the engine back out to paint the engine bay and just to make every thing look better
Will upload a picture once it's finished

Doing the conversion with a p12 head is so much better
No need for adaptor blocks or any thing like that

What manifold is that, if I may ask? P12 runners welded to a JUN plenum?

The whole thing is custom but I reuse the standard flange
