I just thought I would throw this out to the community. I found out that batteries have a 1 year shelf life. After that 1 year, stores like AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, Oreily's Auto etc can't warranty these batteries. They must sell them as a USED battery.

I picked up an Optima Red Top(originally $204.99) at Auto Zone last night for $44.99 with a $10 core. If you need a battery for cheap and don't mind the warranty being voided, check these places out and see if you can claim one of them. It took me 2 months to get mine but I only paid a Quarter of the price so I can deal with no warranty.

And for those of you who don't believe me, I can show a pic of the battery with the receipt. lol. Hope this helps some of you guys who are on a budget.

Enjoi,
Andrew

I work for an auto parts supplier that shall remain unnamed and I picked up a 1 year old Red Top 4 days ago for $6.50. A customer brought it in and insisted that it would not hold a charge. My general managers moto is "take care of your customer." We sell used batteries for $39.99 but employees can purchase them for $9.99. I did this and got $5.00 credit for my old battery.:faint:

Well that would have been much nicer than 45 but I still can't complain. Sorry Xoxide.

How did u find out they were over a year old?

Did you just go in and ask if they had any shelf life expired batteries or something?

I've had a lot of trouble with optima batteries. I paid the original $194 for a yellow top at pepboys. I've had to have it replaced three times under warranty. Thankfully, in buying it at full price, I get a 36 month warranty. So each time it dies I get a new one for free, and that in itself has made the cost of the battery worth it. Next time I buy a battery though, it won't be an optima. 4 of them in 9 months... Sheesh.

They have a circle sticker on them that have 4 numbers. The month and year they were received and put up for sale. Hopefully I don't have the same problem ^ had. That would suck but is a good reason to pay the extra money I suppose.
