Do GSX fan put EVO engines on them. I mean there both AWD and I heard that the GSX already has detune EVO engine on them anyway. But What's the diff between US and EVO engine anyway. I thought I ask this tough come to me while I was in the shower <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>.

Yeah, it is a weaker Evo engine... The differences that I can remember include the pistons, and other parts to make the engine a little stronger to handle the extra HP. . but I can't remember exactly what =)

1G Eclipse DSM has the same identical motor as the Lancer EVO I, II, and III in Japan.
2G Eclipse DSM has the same motor as well with U.S spec modified smaller intake runners and cylinder head.
Lancer EVO IV and up came with new 4G63 motor that is transverse mounted and is perty strong, probably among the strongest 4 cylinder motor in the world.
The 4G63 Eclipse motors can take quite a lot of beating, as alot of U.S DSM'ers ran 10 sec 1/4 mile time using stock pistons and rings, and run mondo boost 25+psi on the race track.
I used to own one myself:

No they have the same exact engine as the Eclipse.

Heheh.... yup. My top 5 list of 4 cylinder engines consist of the legendary FJ20ET, the tried and true SR20DET, the 4G63, F20C, and the 3ST-GTE.

I've heard of reliability being the main problem with DSM engines and trannys....

Yeah nice to know there are other super 4 bangers around the world.

LoL.... the best ones made by Nissan <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
I'd like to see other engines beat the CA18DET at its limit, let alone SR20DET's pushing 400+hp, KA24DE+T's pushing ~350hp, or FJ's which I have no idea what they output..... but are nasty as all #### <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

Okay smart guy what is the CA's limit?

baah. you're gonna go make me find out??? LoL. The only memorable aspect of the CA was its ability to rev out to 9k on the stock valvetrain. I'll go see if I can find its stock limit though <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
Also, the 3ST and F20C would probably kick its arse at their limits anyways >_<
Edit: Ok, I did my part. Here's a quote from the FA boards:
"Before I took my CA out of my silvia, it made 440 at the wheels on high octane gas in Japan. When I brought it over, I drove it to Atlanta for NOPI and dynoed 385 at the wheels with pump gas."
I did my job, now you go get the limits of whatever engine you think trumps it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>
4-cylinder with stock internals. Don't care what's bolted onto it. NOS, Turbo, SC, whatever. 4-cylinder shootout!! w000t! heheh

The engine is reliable, takes LOTS of beating because the DSM use a very nice sensitive factory knock sensor and timing retard mapping. The drivetrain is shit, and is very weak. If you making anywhere near 400rwhp, prepare to rebuild at least 2-3 trannies if you go to track events or drag. Besides been strong, the engine has alot of little problems like oil leaks, poor idle control, and crank walking problem for (2G DSM's).
Supposedly I am more fond of the EVO IV and up 4G63's., but I still give credits where its due.

The 4G63 is one of the strongest 4 cyl. engines out there. The reason why 95-up DSMs get crankwalk is not known for sure. What we do know is that the blocks on those cars were cast in the US(the previous DSMs had their blocks cast in Japan) and the thrust bearings were not matched up properly. Some say that the thrust bearings are not getting enough oil due to revised oil passages in the block in 95.There are too many theories and not enough answers.Mitsubishi of Amer. is denying that there is a problem yet they revised the block for 98-99 DSMs.This is one of the reasons I would not buy another Mitsubishi unless I was 100% sure that the entire car was assembled in Japan.
