Nice car!!
I'm not an expert, but I am pretty sure that remote mounted oil filter shouldn't be upside down and that may have helped contribute to your rod knock. I know that engines have oil pressure, but every time you turned it off that put an air bubble in your oil lines and could have starved the rod bearings.

I'm glad you prefaced your statement that way, because the orientation of the oil filter has no bearing on anything. Any decent filter has an anti-drainback valve, and if you've ever changed an oil filter that's "upside down" and noticed that not much oil comes out of it you'd know.
Also, every engine experiences a dry start unless you pre-oil (Accusump or similar), and doesn't appreciably degrade bearings because the loads are so light during startup.
Your reasoning is sound, but this is something we talk about with everyone that buys a swap kit or remote oil filter mount, and we've done hundreds over the years.

thank you very much jeff jordan.
the rod knock came from something else i will sell this car with a block and heads from a 99 corvette with 44k miles on it for 14000.
then it would just be swapping the parts over.
