I know i see about 1 thread every week about how someone's trim is busted and they have no other option besides either getting a new suroof from nissan for $900+ or a used one that is hard to find in good condition that will eventually fail.

I have been talking to a certain company on making us new trims. Im not sure of any price at this point.

What i would need to see if there is enough interest to make one and if anyone has a spare sunroof they would like to donate/ sale for the cause it will most likely need to be dropped off or shipped to LA, California

I am referring to the fiberglass piece which can not be bought alone the rubber trim is actually still sold by Nissan last time i checked.

What are you referring to the sunroof or the rubber trim?

The rubber piece is in fact still sold by nissan. The whole sunroof assembly is unfortunately not. I have a whole sunroof (with a cracked/taped fiberglass trim). PM me if your interested. Also, how would this new trim adhere? Would you completely break off the old and replace with your solution?

Yes that's what i am hoping for you just rip out the old trim you will be able to adhere the new one by using 3m window sealant. I used that on my sunroof when it started to lift off a bit and its been good for a while now you will also be able to re apply to original rubber if it is not broken by using the same adhesive.

You have pics of your sunroof edt007

i'm def. in for this, my sunroof outer trim was ripped since i bought the car, and i couldn't find a way to fix it, unless i pay for new sunroof glass that come with it. 900+$ for fixing such simple thing isn't worth it.

I think this is a great idea. I recently replaced the whole glass assembly with a "newer" one because mine was starting to flake and look like shit. The pics below show that it is easy to remove the glass itself. You just take the plastic cover off from inside the car and it exposes 3 10mm bolts on each side. Remove those, and the glass with trim comes right off of the assembly. I hope that makes sense.

These pics are just a few I had on my phone.

no longer can get the sunroof glass or assembly...and its so hard to remove the rubber off the fiberglass without ruining the fiberglass btw....so i cant see how the rubber trim can even be replaced

How about a whole fiberglass or even metal replacement for the whole glass assembly? Pop the old glass out, put this one in kinda deal...

^ that would work if you can seal it up using oem rubber so basically its a metal replacement maybe??

That would be great but that will cost a lot to develop and I don't think the company wants to invest into this. So for now its just the fiberglass trim only

what are they basing this decision on if you don't mind my asking? It seems there was a large amount of s14's with sunroofs were there not? If you supply something that is at least 1/3 to 1/2 the cost then it should be an easy decision...cnc's and molds will be all the work....please reconsider....for the sake of all who have a sunroof.

thanks

It was not my decision. I would have even paid them to make me 30 of them since i know i could have resold them easily but they didnt give me a straight answer unfortunately. Hopefully i can find someone else to do this, or someone just takes this idea and makes us a replacement.

I would be all over a metal replacement, right now I'm trying to decide if I should just try and find a reputable body shop to replace my roof skin completely. also a word of warning to those with "lifting" trim, eventually rain will get in there and start to ruse out the steel frame the glass sits in. its whats happening to mine right now. and it blows.

I have a 96 240 with a sunroof. It leaked pretty bad. I crashed the car and some piece in the sunroof assembly that holds the glass down broke off. I didn't even thi I about fixing the sunroof.

All I can recommend is to find a decent metal fabrication shop.
For a few hundred dollars, they will weld in some sheet metal and build you a roof support since sunroof cars have some really thin metal and lack the in Ed webbing that non sunroof cars have.

Or you can buy the $1000 kognition kit if you have an s14

Similar issue has happened to me recently on my '98 S14. The thin trim piece that goes over the glass broke off and is no longer holding the rubber seal down. And it's the rainy season here in Louisiana so I need a fix quick!

Any help/input on this matter is greatly appreciate.
Here is a pic of the piece in case we're talking about two different parts here:http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x406/Crxckadome/sunroof2_zpsabb6cdbe.jpg
You can see the small rubber piece here. Which i'm able to find and replace but the plastic piece that helps seal it is whats missing.

And here is the broken plastic piece.

Yup that piece that broke was what i wanted to replicate but i never found a company to help out even after offering to pay for 30 of them lol. Your only hope is to find a new/used one.

Gorilla glue will hold that shit down. I put gorilla glue on mine and put squeeze clamps on it over night. Holds the rubber in place fine and hasn't popped up since.

I may have some new updates on a S14 sunroof replacement price to be 250-300 (not 100% sure but around that range)complete carbon fiber with seals. They need around 8 guarantee buyers. (I am not promoting anything to sell myself as a vendor in case mods think this, im just trying to help the community.)

Here is an example of one they did for a ae86-

You can paint carbon... I'd be interested as well. My metal frame has started to turn into iron oxide. I may know another owner that may be interested as well.

Its difficult to tell from the pictures, but would this just replace the glass portion with carbon fiber in a working power sunroof setup? or is this for those who have completely removed their power sunroof assembly and who are looking for something to fill in the space?

Also how would this be attatched to the roof? would it be a removable piece, easily removed for track days?
