Hey im faily new to the 240sx as ive owned Hondas before but i wanna get sidewaysss.. lol

i just bought an s13 with an engine knock, light ticking and tacking when speeding up from 2500 rpms - 3500 rpms

dude said it was rod bearings that needed to be changed before it throws the rod or causes damage to the crank.

i see the bearings are $45-$60 or so.

is it replacing the bearings and possibly micropolishing the crank? can the engine still be in the car?

i basically heard is dropping the oil pan and unbolting the rods, its harder but no need to remove engine.

any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

It'll be easier if you just find a running ka.

better off finding a running engine pulled from a car... or a full sr swap

^^^ i actually just got a block with internals all the way down to the oil pan for $100. so im just going to put that on and change those damn bearings. i just hope my crank is okay.

after talking to alot of older guys with experience they simply said take it easy its not bad. change bearings/Thicker Oil/and a bottle of MetalLube or Honey Car Oil.

Woah slow down!

There is at least 3 different sizes of main bearings. The new bock might have a completely different size. Or, they might be worn.

For a couple hundred bucks you could have had a machine shop clean, line hone, Mic and even install a new set of bearings that are within spec.

What you purchased might work for a while, but you really should educate yourself on how to do it right. I mean, its not a big deal if this is a daily driver and you don't mind replacing cheap engines, but if you want a reliable engine to turbo or race some day, you should do it correct.

btw, kudos on finding a KA for $100. Those SR fanboy's sell them so cheap, we over at ka-t.org love it.

edit: make sure you understand KA timing before you go putting anything back together.
If you search 'ka24de upper timing explained' and 'ka24de lower timing explained' that will help you not bend any valves or anything stupid.

edit 2: you can find tech DVD's at www.240sxtechdvds.org as well as a FREE Factory Service Manual that will tell you everything you need to know. (I don't work for Josh or his tech DVD company, I just own all the video's and they helped a lot)

^ thanks a million. this weekend im planning to put her under the knife. im dd her and the pinging doesnt come on until 2500 rpm and only stays constant if i have it over 3500rpm, very very minimal ping.

i will read those videos and triple check my work before i will install that block and bearings.

will let you know how it turns out
