Long story short I messed up installing the pulley back on and the little key broke the pulley causing oil to go everywhere.

After inspecting it I have one tiny chip on the cover. The chip is just to the right of the 2 big holes. Does it look real bad or you think it will be ok?

I am ordering a new seal/pulley/key but I wanted to see if you guys think this chip is detrimental to it sealing properly?

A new one is quite pricey and is a lot of work to install :/

Also what is the proper way to put the pulley back on? I thought the key was straight and just tightened it down via the big bolt, obviously that didn't work correctly -_-

looks ok from pic
just make sure no damage were seal sits

pulley should slide right on (make sure you align slot in pulley with keyway on crank )
you may need to clean/lube pulley and crank to make it slide on easier

I don't see a reason to replace to the entire pump, the chip does not sit on a mating surface. Get a new seal and a new woodruff key. If that is your pulley in the picture, replace it!

Agreed, the surface that the front main seal actually seals against looks fine in the first picture. You do need to be very careful installing the seal though. It has to go in straight. Also, it is my understanding that you do not install the front main seal until it bottoms out. Putting it so that the front edge of it is just past the tapered section on your pump cover should be sufficient. Just make sure to put some oil on the inner and outer edges of it. Some Nissan guru might want to correct me on the depth of installation but that's what I learned building other motors and I have done it that way myself with no problems.

^^^ yep..... typically when installing front/rear main seals you should lube/pack it with a heavy grease/gear oil... the pulley should slide right on all the way before tightening......

Ok thanks, ya I had the seal even with te cover but I messed up by tightening the pulley with the bolt I guess. Thanks for the replies.
