Pick up an SR redtop with rod knock last night. Was trying to figure out costs and what parts I would need to get it back on the road? I would assume bearings, but how do I know the crank isn't fucked either? Worst comes to worst , if it is, what do I do? Can I use the crank out of an N/A SR from a Sentra or G20 or something? What else should I replace? I would like to keep everything as oem as possible.

All help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

A full OEM rebuild if done yourself can range from 1500-3K. It just depends upon what brands you buy.

if you feel comfortable taking the motor apart, take the crank and messed up rod to a machine shop and they'll tell you if it's gonna be able to be salvaged. worse case scenario you have to buy another rod and another crank plus have the replacement rod and crank measured to make sure it's within tolerance. it can get kinda expensive if you don't have the tools or knowledge to measure stuff like that

If you're already gonna tear the whole engine down, why the fuck not? Just to save a few bucks and find out later down the road that the other bearings are fucked too or the oil pump was going bad? Then you're back to square one.

Full rebuild is worth it. A lot of parts switch over from FWD SRs to RWD. Best thing to do is find a wrecked car that has an SR in it at a pick a part and just see how much the whole engine is, you can use the crank, and anything up top attached to the cams, Rocker arms will fit perfect ( if you notice flat spots on them, replace them, also shims can be used as well and even the cam caps if you are missing some.
