quick question with a few more to come.. basically i am noticing that alot of the coolers are rated for certain horsepower applications.. my thought is that a small one is better than NOT having on at all.. my plans are for over 500 rwhp.. do i really need to head the said power levels or just gett a decent sized one and call it good?

thanks.. ben

You just dont want your oil to get cold, because it gets sludgey and won't help your engine much.

with 500 hp i doubt it will make ur oil cold and sludgey, im gonan run two i think, one off the filter and one before my turbo, id run one after the turbo but the way ythe oil drains it wont work......i cant wait to finish my ka-t

i have the small b&m super cooler and gets way hot. but i also have the stock ka radiator i have not had any cooling issues. 275whp. i havent decided weather or not to get a larger one or to run two of them when i get a bigger turbo. mine is currently off the oil filter with a relocated oil filter.

I run 2 small coolers, about 3"x1"x12" both inline with each other on either side of the frame.

I called Summit and they got me one. can't remember off hand which brand it was though. I know the company makes a lot of trans cooler shit and they had a good number of import applications for oil filter adapters. the name wasn't 100% familiar to me but it was a name I somewhat recognized.

the ideal oil temp is 180 degrees fahrenheight. If your oil cooler keeps the oil at this temp you're good to go

Ideal oil temp, at what point are measuring the oil temp. 180 deg F seams to cool for my tastes. I run 200-230 deg f in the pan and about 190-210 deg f out of the cooler. This is also with a high quality Oil such as Neo or Mobile 1. I had one oil engineer tell me that temps as hot as 290 deg in the pan are expectable as long as the the temp coming out of the cooler are below 225 deg f.

I guess that depends on where the sender is located. All of the oil coolers I've seen are located between the oil filter and the engine via a sandwich adapter. At temperatures greater than 180 deg the oil starts to lose viscosity. However if you wanna run your car's oil at that 290 deg f please feel free to do so. I'll stay at 180 ;)
