Does anyone know of a write-up or have any clue how one can accomplish this task? I've Googled and found nothing of much real help and the search function on this site isn't working for me. I've done the handles with the standard lock cylinders before but these damn SE power lock mechanisms are driving me nuts. Any help or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Honestly it is simple but its hard to explain over the web. Just unhook all the rods if anything just remove the handle aswell.

unplug the electrical connector and the rods and its basically just getting it around the rods and the bracing in the door to get it out. it was a major pita for me.

There is a way to separate the lock cylinder from the handle so that you can remove both easily, but i cant find shit describing it in detail.

your trying to remove it to make a new key or about to paint the car?
its pretty simple. ive done a couple times before when i had to prep my car for paint. ill see if i can take some pics when i get home from work. i was gonna take it out to make a new key cause my key is all worn. i found a locksmith that can make perfect new keys without the key using the key cylinder. PM me your cell# and ill send you pics from my phone tonight.

Once you take your door panel off, peel back the plastic and look up through the door towards the handle... you'll see the rod that attaches to the back of the cylinder. Theres a little plastic pink tab that holds this rod in place. Pop the rod out of the plastic. Then the door handle has two 10mm nuts, one on each side. Remove them and then your handle will come off.

No it wont. i've done normal lock cylinders on these cars before, and yes it is as simple as you stated. The SE lock cylinders are totally different in design and are a total bitch to get out. The ass white half moon piece on the underside of the cylinder makes it nearly impossible to pull the handle without removing the cylinder first.
Here is a pic to show what im talking about:
