This is probably going to be the stupidest question asked here today

I hear of some people having their turbine wheels clipped to improve flow through the turbine housing. Wouldn't enlarging the area of the housing around the wheel have the same effect ???

it doesn't work like that broski. i suggest you look up how turbo's work.

I realize it would have an effect on spool as it would allow more of the exhaust gas to pass by the wheel. which should help with flow and top end power correct ?

no. there's a reason that the blades are so close to the housing. find that out

To make it short, no.

Want more power ? you need a bigger turbo. A T25 cant flow a lot, 15psi on a 1.8L engine already makes it flirt with overspin and poor efficiency.

try reading the 3 tech articles on turbobygarrett.com, they got some courses to understand how it works, and how to chose your turbo depending on your engine and your goal. They even got an app for that.

In short yes. Clipping the turbine wheel involves cutting the corners off the trailing edge of the turbine. Enlarging the area around the turbine wheel will essentially do the same thing, but probably result in even greater turbine efficiency loss. Clipping is very obsolete and was only really ever practiced in the DSM world before they came out with all the bolt-on upgrade turbos.

I would suggest looking into a larger turbo. For modest power and quick spool, I'd suggest a Holset HX30.
