Hey i recently aquired a 1972 datsun 240z body is in a 6/10 minor rust nothing to bad. Now Mechanical wise, the guy who owned the car his wife was bothering him while he was putting in the battery. Long story short he put the battery in backwards and the car hasnt ran since 2003. Anyone beable to diagnose what would have fried or shorted out?

Does it have a voltage regulator bolted to the fender or the firewall???

Had something similar happen and watched a puff of smoke shoot out from it.....had to replace the regulator and 3 wires that went to it because they melted together....

the good thing about datsuns is the have minimal wiring (compared to newer cars) so it's more simple to check something like that. i would check the fuses and every part having to do with electrical like voltage regulator and wiring to check if anything was damaged besides the fuses, like melted wiring or burnt regulator.

And like everyone else said... ratsun forum, helped me a lot when i was building a b310.

EDIT:

if it hasn't been runned in that long, remove gas tank and empty and clean it if possible, check online how to do this correctly if you don't know. Do all this before starting the car, any build up of whatever junk is in the tank will just make things worse. If you clean it and it starts check the fuel pump and fuel lines and replace them as needed or as soon as possible.
