I have been scouring the interwebs, mainly craigslist, for more than a week trying to find the right 240. I've found very few that are in my price range and actually still running. I'm just looking for a drift beater to get started, nothing fancy. There is one that I'm zeroed in on at the moment. It's a 2-toned 89 coupe with only 167,000 miles, assuming that the hud is accurate. The only thing that worries me is that there's a decent amount of rust under the hood near the strut towers, and some rust around the quarters as well. I'm assuming that rust is also on the frame but haven't seen a pic of that yet. I should be receiving a pic of the undercarriage anytime now.

I just need a more experienced opinion on how serious the rust is. Is it a major flaw? Is it going to completely effect the ride, the way it handles? Will it still be rolling in 5 years? Here's a link to pics of the car, he is asking $1500 obo, and mentions he is in a need to sell. I wouldn't pay any more than 1200, expecting to pay 1000, and going to offer 800. Should I be more patient or go for it? Thanks for any feedback.

Rust is never good, especially when its in a place that is very difficult to cut out. IMO i would pass on this one and save up more $$$ and look for something of a little higher quality. or atleast without rust. But you do want you want. its your money, so you can decide if its worthwhile .

Don't buy it. you can find much better for that price. Don't rush you'll find a better one in much better condition.

i'm willing to spend around 2500, it's just that most people want that much for a project in pieces that they gave up on, or a 240 with a blown motor. the problem is I can't wait much longer! i've been drifting fwd's in the rain for a while since it's all i've had, i can't wait to learn the real thing. but i will definitely keep that in mind, there are more out there. no need to rush into a rust bucket.

its not that bad its not like 1k is a lot but if there is rust in one spot there might be more or soon will be more, but you will probably crash it before that.

there's actually a convertible with 5 spd swap, asking 3000, has cheap emusa coils but is rust free, faulty top though. i'm just hesitant because it's a vert, and i've heard it's not the best choice for drifting. it's female owned too s13queen, that's ironic.

240sx vert $3000.00 today & tomorrow only (http://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/3131374609.html)

that's what i was thinking, 240 on the cheap. still going to look at it and see how i feel about it.

I would stay away from strut tower rust the frame rail rust is fine in my opinion just because its so much easier to fix and since your looking for it to drift i dont think that car would last very long that is depending the severity of the rust. This is all my personal opinion though if only you were closer to me i actually am selling 2 240's lol.
Hope you find what your looking for and again as someone said before dont rush it.
