To start off I live in Missouri far away from most big cities.
I have come to find that it is extremely hard to find an S14 with a manual transmission.
I want do build a S14 with a RB25DET swap with working AC and PS and possibly cruise control for a 340hp daily driver on stock turbo.
Well I've come across a 300ZX possibly with a blown motor, is it just as easy to do the swap in this car?
We have a 240Z with a RB25 swap currently and it was sorta our learner car. We broke a drive-shaft at the strip last weekend but managed to run a 12.8 on street tires.
Anyways, let me know what your passed experiences are. Should I even attempt to do it with a 300zx or just wait till I can find a 240. Thanks!

I say keep the 240z. The amount of money for an RB25 300zx, you might as wel buy a clean stock 300zx TT. Those VG30DETT engines are mean engines in boost.

well its not my car, that's why I'm wanting to build one for myself. I have a budget of 9k for a whole project and the 300zx I can probably get for 1500.

You'd honestly be better off buying and building a VG30DETT, especially if you're not going to be doing stupid shit (like drifting) with it. Even from importers they're still one of the cheapest engines (≈$1,500) and have massive potential. So for $3,000 you have a solid foundation and $6,000 for upgrades. I still somewhat regret not selling my previous car quick enough to be able to buy a nice '94 TT :-/
Tis why I got a 240SX instead.

Well the reason I want to go with an Rb is because we already have two cars with them and including mine and a 240 my friend is building will make 4 total. They are very tough motors and we have lots of parts sitting around already for them. I want a 240sx but I can't find one

Don't ever settle for something else. Get exactly what you are looking for. Your car is out there, you just have to be patient.

^^^^ well said, follow your dreams to the point, youll be extremely satisfied and with the 300z build you might regret it, 9k+regret=unhappy, just wait
I don't see your logic in NOT buying an automatic S14. You're gonna swap the engine anyway, might as well convert it to 5-speed while you're at it. Shouldn't be that much extra work.
And here's my biased, yet humble opinion: S14>300zx

Z32 is heavy but has a shit ton more potential than a 240sx
And chances of finding a 240 that hasnt been fucked with are pretty low, stick with getting a z32.

z32's are expensive, and finicky..
Maintenance is key to the z32.
only OEM parts when doing so.
a TT swap into an NA shell will run you 6-10k if you want it done properly.
they also aren't swap friendly, for example, RB, LS, VH, 2jz, ect. No one makes swap kits. so you'll be paying for custom everything unless you know how to weld and fab urself.
a swap like those will run you 10-20k if done properly. if you factor in upgrades and maintenance.
but the z32s do have tons of potential and new parts are coming out constantly thanks to Innovators like ashpec, z1, Specialty z, ect.
Man I miss my TT =(

300zx's will give you a run for your money, but haven't had as much development and aftermarket as a 240, meaning other engines too, but if you like being different, go for it. I'm driving a 2+2 NA and I love it, I don't care if it has 222bhp (right now prob 180some to the wheels..) it's good enough to slide. The NA's aren't really mod responsive but the TT's are very much. VG's are reliable motors, as long as you perform correct maintenance. People have swapped vh45's, rb's, jz's, sr's, ls's, and so on, into z32's already, and if you know how to fab, it makes it all the easier.
I'll tell you something, dailying a 300zx feels a lot better than a 240sx

I love my rb25 s13. I make 360whp on a upgraded turbo @20psi. Very very fun, but putting one in a heavy 300zx would.be dumb. If you wanted to over compensate the weight you would need a rb26dett or vg. A stock tt 300zx is pretty damn fast especially when you crank the boost up. Its also very expensive to work on as well are rbs (maybe not to you since you have alot of parts laying around). Id say stick with a rb swapped s14 just make sure you get a neo spec or a s2.

Ahhh you guys! haha And they do make kits for RB is just about every Z car. I'm just going to leave it to which ever I can find a decent shell for. :picardfp:
