Smog has to be takin care of by the registered owner before sale and release of liability lol it's the law especially if u get it smogged from a place w a $150 fee lol;)

Even if he does the "smog" wont the new buyer have to smog it anyways to full change the title to his name? If i remember correctly thats what happened when i bought my sr20 240 bout 4 years ago, the seller smoged it and i still needed to smog in order to change the pink slip to my name...correct me if im wrong

In california smog on a vehicle is good for 90 days. So if the seller smogs it. The buyer has 90 days from the smog date to complete the transfer of ownership into their name. Otherwise yes, the buyer will have to smog the vehicle.

It is the law and a buyer can take a seller to court for it.

If the car has been smogged within 90 days of purchase, all you have to do is get the smog papers from the previous owner and turn them into the DMV. if pass 90 days, you'll have to smog. That's what I had to deal with.
