you know the swastika was originally a native american sign of peace... is the reverse swastika the nazi party used (uses).
LonePhantom
03-01-2004, 11:32 PM
yeah the romans used the symbol as a sign of peace and good will or something along those lines. Hitler just inverted it (or reversed) to make it a bad thing.

Well, they only weigh 14-15lbs each. I've noticed you're very quick to jump on people for doing something different. :gives: at least they arent 17x7 +40

not to knock anyones taste but how can you say those are not ugly? They are just like any other set of nasty 80s wheel, whether they came on a z, a tempo, or a ferrari they look like butt. It's like those honda guys that drool over the mugen wheels that look like the clutch off my mechanical fan....

its a catholic design, not sure what it means...but the actual swastica he used was a real design, the only thing he changed was the backround!
Hence why in "Amercian History X" the kid has a cross that has the swastica on it
BTW Brian, awsome car,....and you live in the right state too:):) my only question is how'd you get it at your age?

its just an opinion no biggie...
but personally, i think the wheels are horific and think there are much better wheels that will not only enhance the appearance but also performance of the car. BUT, what do I know.. everyone has their own goals and ideas, i am just speaking from my perspective. if you like it, kudos to you.
So.. if they arent swastikas why are you guys calling them that? Its not cool, just call them 280ZX wheels... (hehe or call them ugly, I'll definately know which ones you're talking about) hahaa ;)
cause "swastikas" gets more views and replies

Agreed! But I don't think that on a JAPANESE car it was designed b/c they thought hitler was cool, and swastika is just the name of the design....
BTW Brian:I'm right off where chester road meets centrailia, near the railroad tracks....(right next to hopkins road...)

Dude, its NOT a swastika.. hence the reason NISSAN decided to use it on that particular vehicle. Japanese or not, it doesnt matter.. the point is the same.
Its like calling those lame door conversions "lambo doors" when in fact, true lamborghini doors open differently. PLUS, they are called SCISSOR DOORS not lambo doors. There are plenty of cars with that type of door design. BUT, trendiness will supercede common sense sometimes

well old_s13 you dont have to worry about them, i got a 300zx caliper today and they are about 1 1/2 inches off form fitting lol, so now im stuck, i got to find a 4 lug wheels with a decent offset, that clears z brakes, and i cant stand 5zigens and im to late for the M2 group buy...im fucked....

Z people have been calling those wheels swastikas for years. Just go with it, you wont change thousands of peoples' minds.
We can call them "plus signs" if you guys want...
Now I'm wondering if they ever made real swastika wheels... that'd be nuts.

technically, they are reverse-swastikas i guess.. but thats not the point, the point is that its fuckin silly to call them something they arent. i guess if everyone gets a kick out of making a fuss, fine.. but i just think its stupid. just call them 280ZX wheels.. when people ask which ones, just say the ugly ones.. we'll all know which ones you're talking about. :) Even reverse swastika makes sense.. but not swastika.
As for getting new wheels, 15" are super insufficient for Z brakes.. take my word on it.. i've been that route. If you're gonna do the Z brake upgrade, do it right.. 5-lug + front and rear brakes + e-brake + master cylinder. Sure, its a project BUT if you ask me, the setup doesnt work well without the COMPLETE package. Uneven brake biasing, vague pedal feel, extra sensative brake pedal, insufficient brake ventillation.... and tires that lockup with ease because they arent wide-stick enough. I've been through it all.
Just take your time and do it right.. stock brakes arent all that bad, just run good quality pads and rotors (OE brembo blanks and axxis pads or something).
brianglawson
03-04-2004, 04:40 AM
well ive already got my fronts and thats all im gonna do for now, but later i will do the rear when i can finally afford it and the five lug. I might have found some 4 luggers in decent offsets in 17x7.5 and 17x8, i just gotta call and make sure about them.
Old_s13 i started on forums at z sites and posted pictures of my 240z and they were like wow you got swasticas, it just kinda stuck with me, force of habit. As far as rear z brakes go i will do it eventually but mainly for looks, i would benefit more form stainless rear brake lines then i would the rear z brakes, but i know i would benefit a little:)
oh well time to go put some calipers on:)

Actually, the Nazi's turned the symbol 45 degrees.
Before that, it appeared in Buddhist culture, in Norse culture (as a symbol of Thor's flying hammer) and in Navajo culture (as a symbol for the whirling log in the Navajo Story of Creation). The Nazi's took it from the Norse and turned it.
