sr20det with what i believe to be an sr ps pump. I bought the pump used at a local shop and everything bolted right on with Atf fluid. when my engine is running, my steering wheel is still hard to turn as if I had no power steering. everything is hooked up correctly and I pulled the return hose off the reservoir to check if fluid comes out and so it does, so I know the ps pump is indeed cycling the fluid through the whole system. the pump also makes a whining/grinding noise at idle. I also bled the system as well, still no luck and I don't really want to spend some more money on a new pump if it's not the problem..what gives?? does anybody know what's wrong?

Did bleed the whole system or just the pump? Are you loosing fluid?

I jacked up the front of the car and turned the wheel all the way left and right with the reservoir cap off for about 30 mins. and yes I am slightly leaking around the high pressure hose banjo bolt but not a bad leak..

You are probably missing the the piston and spring when you installed it. Happened to me.

basically the little spring and piston thing inside the banjo bolt correct? what is the purpose of this anyways? i may have put it on backwards or the spring wrong.

I just had this problem after installing a new pump. The one I installed didn't have the spring piston inside, and I didn't notice it was missing until I spotted it sitting in the old pump. It was a quick fix to drop in, even with the pump on the car, and it solved all my problems. Power Steering came back instantly.

Along with the spring thingy, if you have a leak you could also be sucking in air, thus making it nearly impossible to bleed.

For some reason the 240 power steering systems are really finnicky in regard to bleeding. Sure it's an easy concept but it takes some time in systems that had pump failures or similar.

Is there a way to get the spring and piston seperate?
