View Full Version : Plasma or Xtreme super whites
Plasma PIAA bulbs come out lookin kinda purple, and the extreme ones look blue.. I'm thinking purple would be a little more unique, and look tight.. but what do you all think? and have you heard good things about the PIAA h4 bulbs?.. should i get them on ebay? they are like 60ish before shipping..
AJ, Hella Optilux would be your best bet. Those colored PIAA bulbs are over-priced garbage. I dont support PIAA..

ps: In response to that e-mail you sent me, my headlights are powered by an true-xenon system.. HID costs a min of around 500 bucks and the S14 isnt exactly the best car to install it on. Lighting pattern isnt the best..

thanks man, i'll check them out.. what color do they appear?.. i like the purple/bluish hid look.. (without spending the money)
also, what wattage should i get ?... the optilux come in 2 diff oones.. 50 som, and 80 something.. i want BRIGHt lights... so,, what do you think>?
anyone? i'd really like to order some bulbs soon..
If you want fake-HID color with shitty performance, purchase some $80+ dollar PIAA bulbs that usually burn out within a couple months.
If you want pristine white halogen bulbs that are filled with slight amount of XENON gas, pickup a set of 55W Hella Optilux bulbs and use them in some ECE Hella H4 headlamps. Thats the least expensive and best performing headlights the 240SX can have.

I have the PIAA xtremes I want to sell, (planning on 97-98 conversion), and Mike's right, they arent worth the $80, looks pretty much like stock with a slight tint at certain angles, you're probably better off with the cheap brands like hiper or something, if u want the color.

haha well no, even though I really dislike PIAA.. atleast their bulbs are decent quality. They dont short out wiring harnesses and melt connectors like some of the super-cheap taiwanese bulbs.
PIAA's craftsmanship I hear is pretty good, its just that they market their products incorrectly by misleading the public. They shouldnt sell a halogen bulb that is WORSE than a normal halogen bulb, for $80 because it looks "like hid." But to me, thats a #### of a lot better than what the cheap companies do: sell a crap bulb which will either melt your harness or explode, and write a bunch of things in a foreign language and SOMEWHERE in english say "xenon 120W"
Now thats fucking bullshit, if you ask me. Seriously taking advantage of the aftermarket..

ya who sells hella too?? where can i find them?? I have heard of them but only for off-road use on like huge trucks and rail buggies.
Although these bulbs do degrade the light output I do find myself only buying Piaa Superwhite bulbs because I want something uncommon. I cant stand the blue bulbs being sold today. If I were you I would get the Superwhites/Purple color ones. They look white and not purple. I will be fitting a true HID system when I get my silvia front end but If lighting is really that important to you then you shouldnt mind paying 400-500$ for a true HID system.

compared to the cheap bulbs yea, compared to stock? i dunno, I had stock on for about 10 minutes before i swapped em out. I'd say go with the raybrigs (jared) teampulse has on his car. they are more of a yellow/amber color but its bright. mine is whiter, but its about the same as stock to me.

mike, what kinda h4 bulbs do you sell? i'm really interested in getting some. let me know what you have and ur prices.. either post, or you can email me at
[email protected] thanks!
I dont really sell bulbs to customers unless its in some sort of kit. If anything, I would recommend some Hella H4 Optilux bulbs, or some Yellowstars.. I sell them for around $35/pair. I am sure you can find some place on the net selling them for cheaper though..

allright, i'm going to get some hella h4 optilux h4 bulbs. now... one last question
what is the difference between the 50w and the 100w bulbs. I know the 50w has a lifetime warranty, and the 100 probably is brighter. but will i burn housings? wires?. etc... what should i get?!
Optilux only come in a (i think) 55/60W dual filament for H4. Stick with those.
If you want to run high power bulb, over 80 watts.. then you must run a new wiring harness.
