yes you definitely should if you're going to lower it a lot or if you're running huge tires. the inner lining of the fender sticks out and when you turn it can puncture the tire.

It is really good to see that you are okay, and I am really sorry to see that your car was ruined, but like lots of others have said the car is replaceable, but a person isn't. I hope you can get everything figured out and sounds like you got a shell figured out and stuff, it is too bad some people have to be insensative pricks and start talking parts and stuff. Hope to see you back on the road soon, and hopefully you are all okay physically, etc.

Yeah... well... I've been through this before with my S13, but not NEARLY as much time and money (mostly time, though....) went into it as the S14. I'm hoping the shell works out, even though it has some slight non-structural damage. The only way it won't is if there's no title (and i believe there is a title on it....). Otherwise I might be leaving the 240sx world for a while :(
Once again, thanks to everyone for the condolences, and I assure you I'm fine and so was my passenger (kaje). Both airbags deployed, and I had my 5 point harness on (minus the 5th point, but the harness as a 4pt worked wonderfully).

Just waiting for the officer to go inspect the car to see if the tire popped before or after the accident to see if i'm more at fault or whatever. Once again thanks for the consolation guys. it helps to know that at least the work I've done has made an impact on some people.
The current status of the car: It's at my apartment now sitting on the frame, basically. The left front coilover is dead. Somehow in transit the piston snapped. The officer came by to hand me the written warning for "failure to drive right" (basically driving a vehicle too low with full knowledge of it) and said when he inspected the car the wheel was upright, so it's really the towing company's fault. Since they're wreckers, and I have no real proof the piston was fine before they touched it, I can't really do much.
The turbo and manifold seem ok, but ALL of my intake piping is GONE. Thankfully the IC hotpope broke at the flange of the turbo outlet, so the turbo wasn't even tweaked, it seems. I'm gonna sawzall all the damage off and pull the manifold and turbo ASAP, as well as the downpipe and exhaust as soon as it's on jackstands. Need to finish a 14 page lab report for tomorrow and I'll get right on it. Pics should come before tomorrow morning. As with every project, I'll be posting updates regularly.

The tweaked engine bay:
http://www.engr.uconn.edu/~corrales/carsIM/crash/IMG_7496.JPG
Engine still cranks but the distributor was blown up so it's not starting. Should be ok, though.
http://www.engr.uconn.edu/~corrales/carsIM/crash/IMG_7500.JPG
Turbo and manifold both are intact as well. Can't pull it off till wanabe (alex) gets here with the sawzall.
http://www.engr.uconn.edu/~corrales/carsIM/crash/IMG_7504.JPG
also the broken strut might be fixeable. Gonna see about drilling it and tapping in a thick stud. It's only shear stress at that location, so it SHOULD work. takes away on the fly adjustability though.
Damn you tree huggers.... you finally got your revenge.....

yah, this is the daily driven race car! :)
um, you'd probably be in a prepared or mod class... the rules for those class's are by weight and displacement! :) haha! so since you'll have a 2.0L motor, you'll have to abide by the weight restrictions. which will be light, probably like 1,800 lbs! so, you'll be fine... keep an interior (at least partially) and you'll be in street mod (SM) with all the other turbo and heavily modified cars...

I'm a big weight freek, so I will try to take advantage of that, but I would hate to line up with a zetec(2L ?) Caterham, lol. I will go do my reaserch before I ask any more questions someone would end up writing a book answering my questions. Thanks Hurlry

im reading my rule book now, and it says:
up to 3.L OHC, forced induction, OHC engines
a. FWD 1900 lbs
b. RWD 2400
c. AWD 2600
so you've gotta stay over 2,400 lbs to stay in SM. also:
18.1 appendix H.
Exacept as noted by these rules, and the refenced rules, vehicles must be as originally delievered including all road going components such as lights, wipers, interior, heater, etc.
this is a good fun class, id keep enough of that interior for them to not boot you out of SM. its always competative... as for weight, you cant go under 2400 lbs. with an interior intact, that should be ok....

Five dollars for you, Ace. Now go get yourself a cheeseburger, or a quart of oil. Good luck finding a car, and may Pancakes II (Waffles? Crepes?) be even better than the original.

thanks again for all the donations!! so far pretty much all the towing was covered. if the cops hadn't told me they wanted to bring it to impound to inspect it would've been within the 5 miles I get with AAA.......
once again, all your consolation and donations especially are appreciated.
sent money your way. hope everything works out for you. very sad to see that happen, but shit happens. glad to see you're ok man.

Thanks for all the love :)
There really isn't any need to donate anymore guys, unless you wanna just be on that sponsorboard (it's already gonna be a long ass list!! you guys are great!). I've received enough $$ to have covered a lot of the towing expenses I had to deal with. Your donations have been greatly appreciated!
I just paid for the new shell today. You know me, I work fast. Expect pics when I finish swapping a lot of the parts.

Front swaybar is probably toast, as is the front T/C rod (anyone have 1 pillowball adjustable T/C rod??) and the Cusco STB. IC piping is all destroyed, but FMIC looks ok, as does the manifold and hopefully turbo. I'll know more later this week.
actually i do, but its on my neighbor's car right now.

One of the mods get to work and ban this bastard. What a horrible thing to say. I hope whatever car you drive does the exact same thing that Ace's did, but, I want yours to hit a MAC truck, not a tree. Then maybe when you are in the hospital you will think about what you said :mrmeph: . Also, you need to learn how to spell bro. :newbie:

A lot of flaming could've been avoiding if you read a little about this thread.
Ace is wise enough to KEEP IT TO THE TRACK...
But then again, you didn't read... So you don't know JACKSHIT about Ace or the situation here...
Nice first post... Hard to make a good impression afterwards.

Sorry for the response to a dated thread. I feel for your car man, every nut and bolt you ever worked on that car meant something as you continued to work on it. I love my S13, and I plan on fixing it, I hope your new project turns out better than the last ones. Makes me respect S14's all the more. It's still a sweet ride. Sorry bro =-( A silimar thing happened with my S13 http://varneyc.tripod.com/Tribute/index.html that tells the whole story from Day 1. The page is basic at best but, just something I threw together.
