wtf, those cougar POS things have HID lights? never knew that

however, as a side note, i did once see a cougar with a 15" sub sitting in a chitalins bucket in the rear window, and the magnet on the sub was maybe 40mm hilarity incarnate sirs

The Cougar kicks the shit out of a 240? lol
Well I never raced the 4 cylinder, maybe those are for some reason fast. . but my god that's one of the slowest cars I've ever raced!!!

c'mon guys. .we can beat an older XR7 V8 as well as a new V6 Cougar. . It's been tried and true =)

Ohh . and no the Cougar headlights aren't HID, so don't expect a huge advantage by &quot;upgrading&quot; to these... &nbsp;They'd be similar to my 97 headlights cause they're both projector... &nbsp;not the greatest light output, but projectors are designed to cut through bad weather and not blind oncoming traffic.

hey rob
i know they r not HID's but they look realy nice and in the popups will look even better
and yes the cougar is fast the v-6 is putting out around 190HP we have been side by side and i have no chance for now that is

but if every1 didnt get sidetracked on this topic i wanted to know where to get the head light controler for the popups???

KoukiS14
12-23-2001, 09:23 PM
Well. . they DO look like S15 lights =)

But I haven't seen a fast Cougar yet.. They're only supposed to be marginally slower than a 240sx, in fact, 7.6 seconds as opposed to our crappy 7.5.. but I've beat every single one!! and I don't claim to be a good driver... &nbsp;

Do the NEW new Cougars put out 190 now?

Some advice:
1) &nbsp;The cougar projectors are useless.. if you're going to spend money and want &quot;actual lighting&quot; I would suggest some HID projectors.

2) &nbsp;The Pivot headlight controller is not sufficient in lifting your headlights to their proper elevation. &nbsp;It does not work as seamless as you probably think it does. &nbsp;

If you want something simple and differnet, go for a set of Hella H4's. &nbsp;Then check with www.autolamps-online.com for an HID retrofit kit.. atleast with the E-code headlamps you wont be glaring peole (as bad) and you'll have fair lighting with a nice appearance too.

Am I the only one who thinks that the tail lights and the rear end of the 99 &amp; newer Grand Am's look similar to the S15 Silvia's?

12-24-2001, 11:09 AM
You are not the first person I've heard say that. &nbsp;I think the back end looks similar too. &nbsp;Personally, the back end is the ugliest part of the S15.. and for that particular reason. &nbsp;The car is in dire need of some serious tail light treatment.. although, the wing/3rd brake light looks nice. &nbsp;Without that.. the back looks like shit.

btw, I figured I'de write some more input on this topic..

For those of you who arent too familiar with lighting, let alone the 240's stock lighting.. HID, etc.. $1000 isnt that bad when it comes to &quot;having true-HID.&quot; &nbsp;See, *having* HID isnt the problem.. we all know there are many people selling many illegal kits where the stock HID bulbs are modified to fit stock halogen housings. &nbsp;So many people are trying to make a quick buck nowadays. &nbsp;True, there are some companies like the one above which I mentioned, that sell *better* HID conversion kits.. but no matter what, ALL HID conversion kits usually have faults. &nbsp;You CANNOT convert a halogen headlight housing to use HID without some serious modification to the bulb AND housing. &nbsp;If you're going to use HID, you will need projectors.. and HID projectors for that matter. &nbsp;Normal projectors cannot support the increased intensity of light. &nbsp;Remember, a HID bulb usually creates about 2-3x more light. &nbsp;In most all cases, that overwhelmes a halogen projector unit.

Now, think of all that and then start working on the lift mechanism of the S13 headlight. &nbsp;Its easy to understand why the kit I sell on my site is so expensive (1100 for non-hid, 1800 for HID, only installed locally).

If companies are going to sell something as powerful as HID, I would hope they would back it up somehow. &nbsp;Most places dont care and just say &quot;offroad use&quot; when they know everyone's going to use them on the streets illegally. &nbsp;Atleast our kit is installed to US-specs and works flawlessly with full low/high beam capabilities.

Like I said earlier, you're best bet is going with some Hella E-code h4 headlamps.. then if those arent enough light, go with HID.. but be sure to aim them low, you WILL glare people.

the stock 2.5l duratec v6 puts out about 170 hp and 165 tq on average but with most cougs being atx the prefered standard for america (slushbox, automatic, 4spd) they are SLOW AS ####, but i'll definately say the 5spd with a good driver will give a stock 240 a good race if it doesn't beat it.. why? power to weight. you are lighter with rwd but a little less power and we are a little heavier fwd with a little more power, thus resulting in a fairly matched race. now i have intake, exhaust and an SVT manifold (compensating for my sucky tranny almost) and i'll race any stock 240, most likely beating it.

p.s. oh and if the fabled cougar S was actually mass produced (thereby killing off the rustang) you guys would have a definate respect for my cat

Personally, I think modifications require more than just getting something for free and making it fit. &nbsp;I think it requires proper research, testing, and development.

But oh well, what do I know. &nbsp;:) &nbsp;Good luck playa.. hehe

i'm in texas, and i think the lights that flip up look sweet for your car. the rounder headlights of the coug wouldn't go well with the straight lines of the 240.

Untrue. &nbsp;You can get the ECE housings found on the european 200SX's - I bet they'll have much better lighting than the USDM Cougar headlights.

alright i get it now, they cougar headlights dont' really provide much usefull lighting unless the high beams re engaged, most of my usable driving light comes from the foglights (they were great but now since i installed high beam bulbs, they stomp all <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> )

but then again i have a 2001, what your sayin could definately work the question is how much will it take

hehehe two words: rice - boy :)

with lots of love,
mom

ps: &nbsp;how will we want to kiss your ass when chances are, your cougar lights will perform worse than a pair of stock Hella H4 headlights? &nbsp;I'm not trying to diss, just suggesting that if you're gonna put in some work.. start with something worth your time. &nbsp;Those cougar lights are just US-spec (DOT) projector headlights. &nbsp;Go with something better.. unless all you care about is the &quot;looks.&quot;

pps: &nbsp;That red convertible with 4 foglights is Harp's car, he's a local SoCal list member.. I'm friends with him. &nbsp;He doesnt drive the car at night. &nbsp;Besides having a fully molded body kit, his lighting is absolute shit. &nbsp;You can always join the Yahoo SoCal page and e-mail him.. his lights are all show, no go. &nbsp;FYI..
