those aren't real JDM girls bro. i'm pretty sure they were recruited here in the US. Half of them were white. the only "JDM" girls were the two D1 campaign girls that was around Keiichi all the time.

There's a difference between a Pontiac GTO and a Viper.... it's... well, it's a friggen Viper, man! :)
Maybe beceause he's advertising for Pontiac. I bet you if he was driving a ghetto impala or some kind of dodge colt the crowd would have favored him. lol

Looked smooth, but he definitely hit the hairpin slower than the other cars.

I think Rhys was paranoid about tandem drifting. I think he didn't want to lose the factory sponsorship by killing the 2nd car. Otherwise he did VERY well. Samuel Hubinette did freakin' awesome. I was mega impressed. I don't know what Ken didn't do well.. I know Ernie had tranny problems (after having stayed up all night rebuilding his motor).. I'm just glad Daijiro is ok. He hit HARD.

Man, I really wish I could've been there to see the action. It sounds and looks from pictures like it was a pretty good event overall. I would've been interested in seeing the GTO drift, anyone know where any video is available from?

A. D1 is fucking rigged. Seriously. I wont get into it cause not many people will believe me. Coming straight from a few people who compete in D1, the judges determine the winner before the shit even starts sometimes. So long as he doesnt crash and stays consistant, they will rationalize their way into making that person win. This is not made up, this is coming from Japanese drivers (many of whom no longer follow the D1 circuit... errr CIRCUS more like it).
It was really obvious in the US D1. Tanaka vs. Nomuken.... Um, Tanaka fucking DOMINATED Nomuken. Like "turn over and smack your ass with leathers, i am your master you little slut" dominated. Well FUCK, the crowd (like previously stated in this post about APC sponsoring team orange) liked BLITZ and the "Funny japanese doood that makes all those faces and climbs on things". So the judges have them go AGAIN. And AGAIN. Nomuken getting dominated everytime. It was horsecrap.
THEN! Kumakubo (or was it Miki) vs. Kazama. Lets see... Kazama sponsored by Kei Office... Kei Office owned by Keiichi...one of the judges... Keiichi just opened up Kei Office distribution to US market......
Kumakubo always pressuring Kazama... INTO SPINNING coming out of the hairpin.... Dude SPUN on the course... then the announcers were like "Uhh, hopefully, uhh, KazAma spun late enough in the course where it won't count... uhh... yehah." WTF??? Am I missing something or did KEIICHI himself explain the rules: ZERO points awarded for understeering and spinning. WTF^^ Mate? So the cool chrome green car everyone likes loses. But wait, do you wnat to see them go at it again? "One more time! One more time! One more time!" MOTHERFUCKERS... I mean Kazama is one of my favorite drivers. BUT HE LOST. I also like Nomuken a lot. BUT HE lost. To Rough Tanaka (aka K.F.C.--> Katsuhiro Fucking Crazy)
Anyways, Nomuken vs. Kumakubo for 3rd place... whats that? Nomuken got so close to Kumakubo he tapped the S15? Cool. WRONG!!! Nomuken came into the hairpin a little too fast, tapped the brakes and UNDERSTEERED into Kumakubo, then gripped, then slid. Remember those "Rules"? 0 points for understeer.... Not if the crowd favortie is the one understeering or spinning. Then they WIN. Fucking numbnuts audience.
Anyways, enough ranting. In Japan at least the judging is a LITTLE more objective since the majority of THAT crowd actually drifts and knows whats going on. Its interesting cause the elimination rounds to determine the top 16 (when the tandem started, right?) were very objective. THe best performers were: Tanaka, Miki, Suenaga, Taniguchi, and Fukuda. Everyone was usually just a hair behind in their scores. But Taniguchi was the only one the crowd actually knows about. So obviously he advances to the final vs another crowd pleaser: Imamura.. wait he crashed... backup, Kazama!
Pop Quiz: how many people know who Miki, Suenaga, Fukuda, Ken Maeda or Kamimoto are? You guys should know Tanaka and Kumakubo and No Cheese Asamoto since they areTeam Orange..
My point is that D1 is like WWF. The drifting IS TOP NOTCH. The drivers are amazing, the action is exciting (except for Imamuras runs... zzZZZZzzzzZZZzzzz) but there is SOOOO much politics. Is the winner for the whole year determined at the start of the season. Honestly i dont know, but probably NOT. Its just that as the event progresses, the crowd gets into it and really picks out their favorites. So the judges try and please the crowd. Seems like good marketing strategy. The most popular guy doing well or winning, makes most people go home happy. Too bad the US crowd's favorite drifters have more to do with Super Street articles than with real drifting.
^what he said.^
Good action, nice driving, fun to watch. Great aesthetics... too bad the qualifying and judging were so subjective.

Yeah, I agree with you, drifting becomes more commreical than before. I've watched option video for more than 13 years and I love the way it was, which is all the cars are not sponsered, mostly people driving their own cars and having their own style. But since Daijiro want to open a drift market in US, I think that's the way is going to be........
But I still love D1 and all the drivers, by the way, I do know all the Japanese drivers and all the shop owners that in D1 USA
Another pop quiz: Anyone knows whose nick name is called smokey?? :naughty: (Hince: he was there Saturday at D1 and he's a Japanese)

wasnt there, didnt see it. but still,
drifting is subjective. Its very hard to quantify a drift, other than by biased judges. get over it.

Ya that is soooooooo true, these "one more time" things were really pissing me off at the end, you could obviously tell the who the winners were. And then Keiichi asked for one when the crowd didn't even want one cuz it was so obvious.
Oh well it was still a hella fun time for me, and great action, but it was kind of odd they put Rodeo Kazama on the schedule on a boardin some office room I ended up in might have been in the program too.
On the girls, the advan girls were hot :o, same with keiichi's groupie girls if I only knew what hapened in the trailor :)
And that sucks that they were booing Rhys, most were probably intended for Pontiac and/or the car, but it is a Holden, and Rhys is a cool guy from talking to him for a few minutes. Great driver but appreciated the support he got from the few fans, and all the judges and competitors.
Attached is a pic of the viper, got a sh*tload more and will post some of them later.

I dissagreed on some of the judging as well....
Kumakubo was on Kazama's ass the whole time + he spun out...thought it was kinda unfair....
Dont get me wrong, theyre both real good drivers but just though that Kumakubo should have won it...I think the winners were mostly based on what the crowd had to say...
Anyways, Ill get my pics up soon.

It will probably get a few minutes on some car shows, but most will be viper and GTO. There were a few camera crews who weren't option bu tnot sure who they were.
There were a couple people filming it, but not as many as last year, so don't expect much footage to creep from spectators.

TLC I think was one of them. They said its gonna be on a show called...speed something. Not sure. But their camera crew was right by us on the infield where that big whole in the fence was...
TLC has been becoming very "hip" with their shows and content.

I gotta agree with Daniel on Kumakubo v Kazama...
I love Kazama, but he did spin, and last I checked if you spin, you're out... I thought he totally lost that one, but I guess thats where the subjectivity, and the fact that hes sponsored by Kei Office, comes in...
Oh well. You dont have to view it as serious competition if you dont like the judging, just watch it and enjoy it.
Drifting is highly subjective anyway.
TARZAN shoulda won for his awesome work on the Viper. ;)
