ok, update time. going to try to get through this summer and into the winter tear down. depends on how bad my a.d.d. is.
I am going to officially start this build thread with the purchase of the coupe since it is my winter project.
I bought the coupe in early spring. All intentions were to drive it untill the weather got nice, then sacrifice it to a parts bin. I picked it up for $1500 down in P.A. The silvia front was a solid 3 out of 10, and the chassis was a rot box but if you looked past the first glance it was ripe full of parts. The KA started rough, but ran strong once it fired up. The car sat nice on a set of Tien Superdrift coilovers with whiteline sway bars and XXR 926 wheels. Those parts alone were worth the price. The car also had a 6 point roll cage, s14 seats, a nardi steering wheel, intake, header, ISIS blast pipes, and a welded diff.

First step was to make it all a solid color. My friend Eric had 1/2 a gallon of BMW Lagune Seca Blue that he was happy to get rid of.... so thats what color it became. The hood was painted multiple colors to hide the dents and creases in it, and the roof was spray painted black because thats how they all should be.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/painted_zpsdbb59dcb.jpg
It stayed this way for approximately 3 days. I was out street drifting and hit a clutch kick too hard in a manji. Miss. Silvia, id like you to meet mr. Guard rail.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/wreck1_zps42d3143f.jpg
and after about 500 zip ties everything was kinda back in place.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0463.jpg
So i have to admit, I was a fan of the thrashed and ziptied look. However, the truck was being an asshole at the time so I was forced to drive the coupe daily. This meant the headlights had to be repaired. I weighed my options, and since I couldn't find any flip up fenders, my next cheapest option was to make the sil front work with different headlights. I had an idea in mind, soIi hit up the chevrolet dealership with a measuring tape to make sure. Next day, ordered in a Chevy Colorado grill and corner markers.
A bit of cutting and trimming, and everything actually sat pretty decent. The silvia projectors were fit into the marker lights, and the grill was narrowed to fit the width of the 240, and it was all forced together. Only downfall was the openings behind the new headlights, this front end didnt last long enough for those to become a priority.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0517.jpg
The next week, i ran my first "close" tandem corner. it was a blast! it put all the fun that solo drifting had lost right back into it. I was hooked again.
The following week was mixed wet/dry track surface. a heavy rain early in the day left puddles at the entry to the main corner. On an entry, the front tires got into some water and the front end plowed. left me nose first into the pit lane wall. no real damage, but a Colorado lens was sacrificed. Add a couple zipties and it was nearly as good as new.
Then came carlisle. A small paperclip shaped go-kart track. usually a boring drift session that is gone to more out of tradition than anything else. Not the case this year. By the end of the first day, i had successfully ripped off my front bumper, destroyed a set of tires and maintained drift on wheels alone, and taken part in a 3 car tandem sesh. The second day was more of the same. Drift carnage and awesome times.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/DSC7563.jpg
Two weeks later, we returned to Shangri La 2 for more tandem practice. I believe the next few weeks went in this order bent left rear lca, ripped the tab off the rear lcs subframe mount, then bent a tierod.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/rearapart_zpsc7c2fd0f.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/rlca_zps1fc058fd.jpg
so this is where things get interesting. the damage and track time was taking a toll on the chassis. The front clip of the car was about as solid as a limp dick. after installing solid rear subframe bushings, the front two subframe mounts decided to separate themselves from the vehicle. the clutch was getting tired and slipping after it got warm, and something broke every single track day. So the decision was made to search for a vert shell. After searching and only finding junk i knew i couldn't hold out any longer and something had to be done to make the coupe a more reliable. The weekly band aids to just get it back to the track were no longer enough.
First order of business, repair the front end. The right front frame rail was bent, and the core support could be moved back and forth 2-3 inches just by grabbing it. shit was beat. so a weekend with a sawsall, a tubing bender, a welder, and a bunch of good friends lead to this.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/tube2_zpsdfbea0b1.jpg
A tubular front clip, a set of old gand am headlights, some silvia projectors, and a pignose front end with my sil hood. I didn't like it as much as the Colorado front, but it was needed.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/pigfront_zps0f411900.jpg
A few weeks went by, and nothing spectacular happened. Then everything changed. East Coast Bash....
East Coast Bash changed everything this year. I needed to go slide at the road course. I knew the ka could do it.... but I had a perfect RB25 just sitting in my garage begging to be used. I went on a quick sale spree, eliminated some spare parts that were laying around and went shopping. I ordered a new Holset HX35 turbo, Greddy RZ blow off valve, Tial 38mm wastegate with flanges and gaskets for everything.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/turbo1_zpsc1589a78.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/turbo2_zps94b6db82.jpg
I then pulled the RB out of my red hatch and got it all cleaned up.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/rb1_zpsd28d72da.jpg
Installed a Freddy intake manifold and mocked up the turbo.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/rb2_zpsa6bdd8ad.jpg
With the new powerplant, I decided I needed to take care of some frame maintenance. This was all cut out and reboxed in to give the chassis some strength back
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/frame_zpsd2e79297.jpg
In two weeks time the whole swap was in the coupe and running. Mr. Redbeard made me some solid motor mounts to replace the McKinney garbage, and I was off to shangri la2.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/rb3_zps8a32d530.jpg
When I got to the track I spent an hour tuning it around the outside banks, then it was time for drift carnage.
With the new power, the car felt like it was on ice. So I dove into the suspension tuning thread on zilvia, and studied up...
My other cars:
High compression KA24DE soon to be silcamino. Just needs a set of legit wheels and a sil front and i'll be happy.

just edited the first post to cover more of this summer. have it updated to about august. after reading thru it again, that first post was just so 1/2 ass plus i had organized all my pictures so a bunch were missing. i'll post up until the winter tear down next. in the process of re sizing those pictures right now.
the sideskirts are modified s10 xtreme skirts. the rear sections were untouched from the back of the bed. the side skirts were the cab skirt, and front bed skirt cut and molded together to form the right length.

Of all the people that have seen the car, you are the very first to ever tell me they didn't like the hood. Most people love it. I would love to get a new sil hood, but for now there are other priorities... so this is what it is. Thanks for the compliments on the truck.
should have everything up to date after this post.
So as I posted before, with more power I needed to correct some of my suspension components. I have read the suspension/roll center thread on here about 8 times beginning to end. If any of you havn't read it, its worth the time, and it helped me to take notes as I was going through it.
#/f/tech-talk/296725-roll-center-suspension-pickup-steering-angle-modification-thread.html
For the next track day, I only adjusted the rear camber. Measured it out to about 1*, and went to have some fun. This put the tire very close to the rear fender, so much so that in corners the tire would rub the fender. I didnt care too much, thought the fitment looked good and kept sliding... untill the fuel pump fuse blew. I had completely forgotten that the rear wiring harness had been routed to run through the rear inner fender. With the fender to tire contact, it had gotten hot enough to melt the harness together, so once again the car left the track on a trailer.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0045.jpg
The next night I went into repairing the wiring harness, and ordered some rivet on fender flares to correct the contact issue. With the now wider rear track width I decided to lengthen the front lower control arms. This allowed me to turn my camber plates around to adjust the caster some, lowered the scrub radius on the front tires, and gave much more clearance between the front tire and the sway/stabilizer bars.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0059-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0049-1.jpg
The changed caster also allowed for more steering angle.
(the green tape was the angle prior to the adjustments)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0054-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0053-1.jpg
I also changed the spring rates from the stock 10k/8k setup to be 8k/6k. After all that, the car was set and ready to go. I drove it to the track psyched to test everything out.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0633.jpg
The car handled amazingly. It took a little bit of time to get used to all the new angle, and how you had to self steer the car some. Once I was adjusted it felt great, and for once I got to drive my car home. The next two weeks were slow, I changed tires and checked over a few things but had no major things to do.
Went to the track ready to get more tandem practice in. After about 1/2 of the day had gone by, I noticed a slight knock at idle. The bolts holding the oil return line had backed out from the bottom of the turbo, and I had run the engine low on oil. My drift season had come to an end. The coupe got stuck in the corner, and I spent the rest of the summer cruise'n around in the truck, and go'n to a few car shows.
A month or so passed, and I got back to work on the coupe. We pulled the motor out to see the damage. Cylinder 3 had spun a connecting rod bearing and scored the crank. So, I needed to rebuild it, or buy another long block. Both seemed to cost about the same about so yesterday I ordered in a long block. Less work for the same result.
In the mean time, the car has been completely gutted. The old cage has been removed, and a new Formula D legal cage is nearly completed. We made a bolt in rear section with an aluminum 10 gal fuel cell, and a rear firewall. A lot of the rust has been repaired, and tonight I am going to start working on wiring the chassis.

This is how it sat 2 nights ago. I needed the shop space so one of my buddies could do some work on his car.

I don't think it should be too large of an issue, unless much larger ones happen first. In order for it to become a problem the gas tank will have to be punctured, and the battery will have to have been pushed against something metal in a way to spark at just the right moment to ignite the gas before the battery welded itself to what ever piece of metal it was hitting and destroyed itself.
Thanks for the compliments on the truck. I love it, and im really torn on selling it. I don't really want to but the funds would be nice to put elsewhere.
I finished up the wiring in the rear of the car, I didn't take any pictures because its not very exciting. The long block should be here Friday, so there will be a bunch of progress on that over the weekend. It would be nice to have it sitting in the engine bay and all ready to have the new manifold mocked up on it.
I am still debating what color to paint the engine bay/interior/rear section this year. I believe the car is going to stay blue, and im kinda thinking it would all look nice white or a high metallic silver.

I never have either, but it needed more ventilation. Once the rb was in the engine bay I had to run it with no hood to keep the temps down. Although it may be more work, it is a cheaper solution than an aftermarket hood/9k hood vent. I have looked into the subaru headlights and grill. I agree it looks like they will fit. I'm gona grab a set next time I hit the junk yard.

Thanks man, I have gained a lot of information from ur posts in the roll center thread. I plan on getting more into tuning the suspension as it draws closer to spring. When the time gets closer I would love to get ur opinion on all of it before I actually start building parts. The turbo worked well for the 2 or so months it was on the car. It hits hard at about 3400rpm, no shaft play, and no oil leaks. its done all i can ask for out of such a cheap turbo.
As I am doing this build I am realizing more and more that this car will not be all that streatable this season. Kinda makes me sad. This car was so much fun to drive around in. I have always been used to building cars that looked really nice, that I had to park way away from people in parking lots, always fearing rock chips and door dents. It was great driving a car that I didnt care about. Leaning on it at the track, standing on the roof to see better and dukes of hazard sliding across the hood had become norm. Not to mention how great it was to be able to park in a first row parking spot without fear of damage. Oh well.

while waiting on the rest of my roll cage tubing, i took a break from the car and put together my christmas present from my gf.
It's a Tamiya TT-01 chassis with an r32 skyline body. It came with hard drift tires... the thing is a blast. Painted it up like my coupe and slid it around the shop a bunch.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'll have another update soon. I have the cage and stuff all prepped and ready to paint, and a lot of the engine stuff polished up and ready to put back in the chassis. Everything is finally starting to fall in place. I just cant wait until the first time I can fire it up. It has deff lost its "missile" status, but im still gona trash on it like it's garbage.
I'm still unsure of what headlights I am going to use. I have to get to the junk yard and measure how tall the Subaru ones are.

I ordered a Nistune board for my z32 ecu last night, and springs for the waste gates a few days ago. everything is getting so close to being finished, im getting anxious to hear this thing run again. Anyways, here are updates:
I finished welding up the un-needed holes in the fire wall.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0576_zps105f3df8.jpg
Then I threw everything back into the car to make sure the dash was properly fit around the finished cage. After a bit of trimming it all slid together.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0579_zps62fb8c90.jpg
I pulled everything out to paint the cage, and ran out of paint 1/2 way through. It was kind of a blessing since I forgot to do a few things in my rush. I welded in A pillar braces, and made the tabs for the fuel tank and battery straps.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0590_zps53ee983d.jpg
I had to wait a few days to use the paint booth again, so I spent a day swapping everything from one rb to the other. The engine is now ready to drop in.

Last night I taught my gf how to paint. She wanted her rx8 wheels white so we sprayed a pair to see how it looked. I think they came out pretty damn good, especially for her first attempt and spraying any thing.

Weekend plans:
Paint the rest of the interior, and to have the engine in place. It would be nice to finish up the little bit of wiring I have left.
Other stuff that has been going on:
The 'busa trailer has made some progress

Removing that sticker was the first thing he did lol. Im not entirely sure how band stickers belong on bikes, always kinda reminded me of something that belonged on shitty rotted out station wagons that local bands use, or high schooler's cars.

Thanks. Most of the fab work is done now, with the exception of making a front bash bar.Basically all that is left is smaller detail oriented things.
I'll have another update soon. Wiring was finished up last night. My Nistune stuff came in today, so tonight I am going to play around with that a bit and get the motor in the engine bay. Tomorrow Ron from www.rld-fab.com (http://www.rld-fab.com) is stopping over to mock up the exhaust manifold and down pipe. Once the manifold is finished, and the last of my fuel system parts show up it'll be time to start it.

The motor is finally sitting in the car, and Ron was able to stop in and get the basic parts of the manifold mocked up and in place.

I'm waiting on a few more things to be completed before another real update. In the mean time, I bought a tow vehicle. 1994 2wd Chevy Suburban with the 6.5l diesel engine, 4" turbo back exhaust. It's lowered on spring/spindles in the front and an axle flip kit in the rear with some 20" wheels. has a little surface rust on the rockers but other than that the thing is mint.

I'll deff be out with my cars this summer. Who is this? I tried to guess from ur posts and stuff, but I have no idea.
I totally forgot to take pics of stuff last night so I'll have to update tomorrow. Last night the 'busa trailer wiring got all finished up, the bikes got primed, we rolled the fenders on my gf's rx8, and I drove the coupe around in the parking lot a bit. Not too bad for 5 hours of work. Tonight I'm either going to wetsand/paint the bikes, or button up the last bits of the interior in the coupe and swap in the Nistune ecu and 740cc injectors. Maybe all of it if I'm feeling productive enough.

I don't know why I love this car more than any of my others, but I do. I have way to much fun in it to let it just fall apart.

Yeah, daily duties are probably going to fall on to my 240 truck. I would say the coupe has lost it's missile status as well. Almost a little sad about it honestly.
Updates:
Engine starts and runs well. I swapped in the nistune ecu, but my laptop battery died before I could really get into things so I started mocking up the front end.

Its a Chrysler orange with more pearl in the clear than should really be allowed in any paint job.
I am starting to get a handle on the Nistune software. Even on the stock ecu, the coupe wants to barely hold idle at about 500rpm, and if I rev the car up it wont catch itself. It'll just die out. If I manually hold the rpms at about 800 it runs smoothly. I have to figure out what changed from last year that is making it not idle at the proper rpm.

We busted ass last week, and got the coupe all buttoned up so we could make an attempt at tuning it. Went up to Shangri-La 2, and did a whole bunch of laps on the outer track. It took a little bit to figure out the Nistune software, but I have a decent handle on it now.

After a few hours we got everything running to where I am 90% confident in it. The car is absolutely crazy on 23psi, however I think I have a dud Walbro 255. When you first start the car you can hear it humming, but its not obnoxious. After a pull it would get really loud, even at idle. After another pull it would get even louder and start to not flow enough fuel to feed the top end of the power band. Once the car was restarted, even if it was only off for a second, the pump would quiet down and work properly again.
When we got back to the shop I pulled the foam in the fuel cell out, removed the inline fuel filter, and un-clamped the fuel pump, none of it made a difference. I can change the pitch of the fuel pump whine, and the fuel pressure by simply moving the fuel pump in my hands. I am going to give Jegs a call today and see what they think about it. I would like to get things all set and together for the English town event on the 27th, but it doesn't look like its going to happen.
In other sections of the shop, my gsxr and my buddies zx10 are all back together. I absolutely love the gearing I have on it this year. It is down one in the front, up 3 in the rear. I can pull the front wheel up without even trying now.

Last Sunday we went and picked up a 2007 Ninja 250 for my gf to learn to ride on. She got a steal on this thing. It only has 2400 miles on it, and has just been sitting in the corner of a garage for most of it's life.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0677_zps5fcfc0cf.jpg
It has a little damage on the left side where the previous owner put it down, but nothing too bad. It didn't take her long to start doing body work and pealing the vinyl tribal things off.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0681_zps3ec7e2d3.jpg
I think she is going to spray it a dark cherry color with white wheels, and we have to lower it about an inch and a half for her to be able to flat foot it.

Kinda psyched about how this turned out. In my gf's rx8 the front tires hit the FLCA before the steering hits full lock. This keeps the car real slow and shallow in drift, so I am in the process if making tubular control arms for the front. The uppper is 1" longer with adjustment to bring it out further if needed to correct camber. The bottom is going to be 1.5" longer with a similar adjustability.
Pic of the upper control arm and jig.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/rx8fuca_zps5a98a888.jpg
I have to make a jig for the lca tonight, then once I am sure one side is test fitted and functioning properly I am going to make the passenger's side.

Thanks guys, the last few weeks have been crazy! Trying to get everything done as this is the last full week that I have access to the shop I have been using. My dad retired and closed his business about 6 months ago, and some one is leasing the property starting in June. I have to move all of my stuff to the garage at my apartment and begin cleaning out the shop for the new tenant. I haven't been taking as many pictures because i have just been trying to get things done.
About 2 weeks ago, I started fitting the new headlights into the coupe. 94-97 honda accord lights fit insanely well. I just had to make a patch panel to fill in the gap left where the silvia marker light was.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0689_zpsd923f60a.jpg
All fit in to it's new home
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0690_zps828b91da.jpg
Started to mock up a hood, but I haven't finished it yet.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0691_zps65c97a27.jpg
I took it up to the track again to try to work out a few bugs. I played around with it for about 45 mins, and started to hear a knock. My heart dropped, and I damn near set the car on fire. Loaded it up on the trailer and started to plan what to do next. When we got back to the shop we noticed the noise was coming from the water pump, so I ripped the entire front of the engine down, and put in the water pump from my old RB. Problem solved.
Then I dove back into the rx8's suspension. My gf has been having to drive my miata every day, and I just wanted to get her car back to her.
Here is the driver's side mocked up before final installation.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0703_zpsed961642.jpg
And this is how the car currently sits. all finished and back together.

Sadly it is a lost art. The industry really needs more skilled new blood.
Update: I am so burnt out on cars. I keep telling myself I'm just gona sell everythign and buy a bunch of bikes.... but every night i still find myself in the garage.
The RX8 suspension is finished and dialed in. I think it came out awesome. She has just enough angle to where the tierods just start to over center, so I'm going to have to move the rack eventually. It looks even better now that the suspension has settled. I'll try to grab some pics of it tonight.
I was going to keep the list of parts I used as a secret in case I ever decided to make these to sell, but honestly I don't have the time, or desire to try to market these things. so, the upper ball joint is a tie rod off of a mercury grand marquis. I wanted an upper ball joint that could simply be threaded in or out of the upper control arm. some of the treads had to be cut off so there was no contact with the coilover, but it was a direct fit in the spindle. The lower ball joint is a press in 94-97 honda accord lower ball joint. I had to have a cup machined by one of my friends to take advantage of the press fit, but again, the ball joint is a direct bolt in for the taper of the spindle. The tierods are off of a Kia Spectra. I chose this because it had the "slip on" tie rod spacers built into the steering rack threads.
http://cdn1.autopartsnetwork.com/images/catalog/brand/mevotech/640/MEV365-1.jpg
I did have to trim about 1/4" off the driver's side outer tie rod to get the car to align.
I got the accord headlights fit in the coupe.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0713_zpsb40ae546.jpg
Then loaded it up to go to NICO Fest in Carlisle PA for some drifting. Had my fingers crossed I had gotten all the bugs worked out, and took off for a weekend of shenanigans.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0714_zpsf6bb8210.jpg
Apparently crossing my fingers wasn't good enough. Saturday I snapped all 4 lug studs on the right rear, and Sunday the water pump went bad.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0715_zps0967ddb6.jpg
I drove it about 300 yards that way, up a hill, through the pits and into the trailer. I may have stopped at one point to kick the **** out of the right rear quarter panel. whoops.
any ways, I got it home and cleaned it all up a bit. I am running out of fuel in the top end so I had a second pickup point put in the fuel cell so I can run dual walbro 255 pumps. I also finished tacking together the hood. It is going to need a bit of body work but I am pretty happy with how it came out.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0743_zpsd4fcf9a8.jpg
Going to try to paint the car this weekend, or early next week. I think I'm going to swap my 5 lug hubs on to it, so I am going to be selling all my 4 lug wheels. I still have to order in a new water pump, and some extended studs for the right rear. I'm just ready to be done building/repairing the car so I can enjoy it.

The coupe has just been sitting for a few days. I'v been busy moving everything out of the shop I have been working at and into the garage at my apartment. I'm anxious to get it running again, just taking care of life for the next few weeks. Should all pay off in the end.

There's some awesome stuff going on in this tread. Just saw the video nice. I super wanna see more of the truck it looks to be freaking sweet.
And lol now that it was mentioned it does kinda look like a 98ish mustang. I thinly it s the lines of the hood where it raises on each side and the rounded lights. Still dope though, keep up the good work man.

I love the odyssey front, but the whole front end/light situation came about by the need of cheaper parts. I would have kept it a silvia front if some one on ebay made $50 cheap ass headlights like they do for everything else. I can repair fenders, and I can repair bumpers, but I cant fix broken glass.

Huge thanks to Ron at RLD Fab for the hookup on the manifold. this thing is truly a work of art.
Tonight I am making the new downpipe and waste gate dumps. Eventually I would like to rework the hot pipe to wrap around things a little better, but it works for now.

MORE STUFF HAPPENED!
Easy to get excited about because it doesn't seem to happen much any more.
I went 5 lug on the rear so i could get wheels that fit how I wanted. Ordered 2 pair of Varrstoen ES2 wheels. 17x9.5 et12 and a 1" spacer. I need tow adjust arms in the rear to get the rear aligned where I want it.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0852_zps00b8d696.jpg
I adjusted my ride height, corner balanced it, and aligned it as close to my specs as I could then went drifting!
Hit the Ready Set Drift event at limerock speedway on July 26th and had a fucking blast.
The ramp up to the event kept telling me to just back out... but I just couldn't let myself miss another event. 2 days before I was set to go my nistune ecu burn out an injector driver. After frantically searching for a replacement z32 ecu I took a chance and plugged in my stock rb25 ecu. It fired up and ran surprisingly well. Crisis averted. The next day on my way to work, the water pump on my suburban decided to go bad, so I spent an hour convincing my dad to tow the trailer to CT for me. Thankfully he agreed and I loaded up ready to go.
I don't have many pics because I just recently replaced my phone, but here is one as proof that it actually happened.

Had a few bugs through the day, but all in all I was very happy. The car ran amazingly well for 23psi and 740cc injectors on a stock un-tuned ecu.

I haven't fully decided myself. i'll probably tape them on before i drill any holes and see how it looks. I am worried about the top part of the car getting overly aggressive for the lip and simple side skirts on the car.

Silvia headlights are just stupid expensive for what they are. They don't exist in my area, and anyone that brings them in wants $300+ for ones with broken tabs. If some one made shitty ebay headlights for a silvia like they do everything else, I would be all over them. These were $40 for a pair, and available at the local junk yard for about $30 a piece if i break one. If it weren't for the fact that the car came with a silvia front on it already it wouldn't have one at all. Looks just aren't the top priority on this project.
Thanks for the input guys, I'll have another update soon.

NEW PARTS!
I have been working with Ron from RLD Fabrication on some caster camber plates for the s-chassis, and i cant wait to get a finished design done and tested. The first prototype seems to work and fit very well, but I have a few changes I would like to make.
For the last year I have been running my Tein camber plates rotated to adjust some caster. I liked the change and wanted to go further, but I didnt want to move my tire and wheel any closer to the firewall, as clearance is tight already.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0913_zps48dc6a8d.jpg
So I measured some, and drew up some plans.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0914_zps38850186.jpg
It took a few tries, but we got most of the small adjustments worked out on a test sheet of stainless.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0917_zpsf27042e6.jpg
Here is the final prototype fit to a set of Tein superdrift coilovers.

Then cut a hole.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0922_zpsd748b240.jpg
And here is the important stuff.
Static camber:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0928_zps830781a2.jpg
Full lock:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0927_zpsb97e82c8.jpg
New steering angle:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0926_zps59061b71.jpg
My front setup is RLD Fab Caster/Camber mounts, 1.5" extended s13 LCAs, PBM gen 1 weld on angle kit, Ikea Formula inner tie rods, Moog s14 outters, Moved the steering rack 1" forward. I am anxious to order in some newPBM forged knuckles because I know I can pull more angle out of this setup.
The Caster/Camber mounts have the ability to adjust camber by choosing which bolt location you use in the plate. There is about 1.5" of camber adjustment at the top depending on which hole you use. Camber should be able to be fine tuned with the slotted upper spindle mount, or an adjustable LCA.

Interesting to see how the changes make it feel, and if the wheel self-counters as easily as it did before the changes.
Did you choose this method to avoid the excessive static camber you get when slotting the lower mount bolt holes?

I agree and I disagree. Sometimes I really want a legit silvia front again other times I like the way this looks when it is all together. We'll see what happens this winter. If i can find some decent headlights and fenders I might switch it all back over.

I am also very interested to see how it feels. I have made a lot of changes to the car since the last time I drove it. Just as curious to how it drives on the street and on the track. With the excessive static camber it liked to follow cracks and grooves in the road.
I chose this method to keep a flatter contact patch from lock to lock. I couldnt adjust caster with the LCA because I am already very close to the firewall with my wheel/tire setup. This will allow me to keep running a decently meaty front tire and still have the caster correction.
Wow. Those plates are crazy. Haha I love them!

Thanks! I agree, I think the front flares give it a more aggressive look.
I didn't do a whole lot this weekend. Late last week I decided I hated the black hood. Got my hands on a s14 hood and I like it better, so it will stay till I decide what I am going to do with the front end.

I'm running a similar setup to you (RB25 in an S13) and am doing more research into front end grip so will be following with interest.
I found with running BC Gold front coils that the top bolt on the bottom mount was slotted. So by running this at max negative it would give a better contact patch on lock but static camber caused wandering just like you described. To improve the contact patch further I was going to start increasing castor (pushing wheel towards firewall) with the adjustable castor rods and reducing space if the wheel got close to the rear half of the wheel arch. But but after seeing your results I'll try your method of rotating the strut top as it doesnt change the angle of the tie rod as much.
My front setup is knuckles modified with shortened tie rod pick up points on standard S13 lower arms, 9" wide wheels with +22 offset and a 25mm spacer (effective offset of -3).
After you rotated the front camber plates around to change the castor angle, did you notice a reluctance for it to self correct? (ie you had to wind the wheel back?)

When I rotated the stock coilover mounts it really didn't change the self steer any that I noticed. It did feel like it improved my front grip, and even with the little bit of caster I took out it definitely gave me more angle. I am very anxious to get the car tuned this week so I can really go give these caster plates a solid test session.

That's good to hear, will do the same and see how i go. I'll measure the camber of the wheel when on lock before and after, and see what difference in angle i get too. Will come down to clearance of the tie rod ends against the LCA's though.
I'm finding the tendency of an s-chassis fitted with a 6 cylinder to "push" the front when initiating means front end grip is crucial. I'd fathom a guess that 60% of the block/weight is in front of the front axis and is causing this, as opposed to 30% with an SR. Pushing the LCA's/hubs/wheels further back to improve contact patch isnt going to help this front axis issue, so by pulling the top mount forward looks to be the best move on all counts.
Thanks for your help. If you're ever holidaying in New Zealand let me know!

I 100% agree. If the car isnt set properly into the corner the car continues its straight line. I do like the way my car pendulums around the front wheels during transition more than my ka cars have. I honestly never thought about the advantage of moving the strut top forward in that sense. My main concern was firewall clearance. Now i am even more excited to try these out. With an adjustable stabilizer bar I could really change the weight distribution of the car. If you are interested I can attach my ride heights and corner balance information from the last time I had the car on the scales. That was pre adjustable rear arms, and pre caster plates. I am hoping to re-scale and corner balance the car this week so I can post updated information from the changes.
If I am ever in NZ I will for sure hit you up! I don't have the faintest of when that would ever be though lol.

I'm probably a little more on the form side of the form-function spectrum to you with this car, but starting to slide towards function if i don't have to sacrifice form.
As a result i'm not going to start playing with ride heights in order to change corner weights to improve grip, not at this stage anyway. I think i've got a lot more to get out of the rear subframe still by reducing camber, raising the subframe for better arm swing and going back to 6kg springs, and maybe even 4kg or 5kg springs. As well as changing to an S14 or S15 subframe for better anti squat.
What power are you hoping to make out of it with the big turbo?

I went from 10k/8k to 8k front and 6k rears and it made a huge difference. I am looking to put out low to mid 5s. The thing is gnarly right now just on my fudged nistune street tune I did. I cant wait to have the thing actually put on a dyno and tuned.

For just the 15-20 miles I drove on them I could feel a really big difference in front grip, especially in turn in. The car tracked straight, and there was still enough self steer to make daily driving easy and controlled but give you really good feeling while turning on off ramps. After the alignment the car is the most predictable that it has ever been. I am very anxious to go to the Ready Set Drift (http://readysetdrift.com) event at Pocono Raceway on September 14th.
Took the car to play on the dyno at Overdrive Automotive (https://www.facebook.com/overdriveauto) and after a few hours of playing with the Nistune software I was able to get some decent numbers out of the car, but I am far from content. An electronic boost controller will be a purchase in the very near future. I thought 24psi would be enough to get me into the low 500 hp range but apparently my estimates were off by a good bit. After some good tuning tips from their in house tuner I was able to get it just shy of 400 to the rear wheels on their Dynojet. The guys from Overdrive were awesome to work with. They allow dyno rentals to tune your own car like I did, or you can hand over the controls to their in house tuner. If you are looking for a place to take your car deff give them a shout!
Sorry for the one shitty picture I did take. I was too amped to finally get the car running properly.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0954_zps9211a976.jpg
After the dyno time the car is a completely different animal. The drivability is drastically improved, and the power once the turbo comes on is just an absolute blast. I was disappointed in my numbers until I left the shop and got on it a few times on the way home. It has been a solid 12 hours and I don't think there is much that could wipe the smile off my face.

Wow, it has been a long time since i updated this. Since the last time I posted a lot has happened. I went drifting some more, remembered how fun it is to drive a race car on the street, sold some stuff, got a winter car, did a whole bunch of design work and vinyl cutting, bought a house, got most of it renovated and moved in, and am finally getting to where I can work on the coupe again.
So, to pick up where I left off... I hit the last RSD event of the season at Pocono. The track was crazy fast, and was my first real time doing 3rd gear transitions. Shiftlocking down to 3rd to initiate a drift is a crazy experience. The first part of the day I was battling over centering issues. In the shop and around town it didn't look like it was going to be an issue but in full motion the problem very quickly showed itself. I finished out the first session doing shallow angle slides to keep it off of lock. The reduced caster made initiations much quicker. there was no delay between turning and the car following. It made the car much more flickable and am very eager to make a few changes and get the car back out next year.

To correct the over centering issue all I could do was put caster back in the car. I had no way to build bump stops at the track. The rest of the event went pretty smoothly and i got to run multi-car tandems for the first time in over a year. Towards the end of the day the foam in the fuel cell started plugging up my fuel pumps so I had to spend a bit of time removing all of that and digging it all out of the walbros. That foam stuff has been nothing but a problem all year. I will be having baffles put in the tank for next season.

Drove the car to work and around town a bit, really did forget how much fun driving a car like this on the streets is.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG0965_zps831b3865.jpg
The looks on peoples face when you floor it and break the rear tires loose at highway speeds is the best thing ever.
And this is where it sits right now. Fuel system back apart to finish properly cleaning all the bits of foam out of it.

Plans for this winter include a lot of preventative maintenance. Lots of loc-tite, and drilling and wire tying nuts and bolts to make sure nothing loosens up unless I want it to. I want this car to be super reliable next year. A lot of time finishing up and double checking that everything is as it should be. No more stupid little problems. I plan to build a functional splitter, undertray, and rear diffuser, aswell as some functional rear aero. Not sure if i want a gt style wing, or a spoiler. There will be a lot more suspension tweaking. I need to get more rear grip. I ran the entire pocono event on 1 set of rear tires and that just should not happen. Been doing a lot of research on tie down and pop up shocks. I am also working with RLD Fab to develop some roll center correcting front and rear knuckles. We may put together a full bolt on angle kit for s chassis cars. Finally I plan a full respray and vinyl wrap for the car. I have had this particular design saved on my computer for a few months and I still like it, so it will be based roughly on this.

So thats where everything sits. Now that I am all moved in and settled a bit, I'm crazy anxious to start working on things. Next drift season is approaching fast!

Was wondering how you were getting on.
When you say over centering you mean the tie rod end is binding?
I've done the same strut top rotating (netting a reduction of approx half a degree of positive camber on full lock) and gone to s14 LCAs. Street driving has been fine with a noticeable reduction in tracking, but am testing properly this coming weekend at the track.
Ive seen guys use a bolt-and-spring lock stop setup to good effect on steering bind

When I say over centering, I mean that the tie rod went past straight out from the rack, and angled forward. This makes it so when you try to turn the wheel back, the tie rod binds and locks the steering in place.
I have a few solutions to this that I am going to work on this winter to make the angle I have usable.

Thanks dude! Since I helped develope it, I got it for cost. If you contact Ron at RLD Fab, he can give you a price. I can guarantee it will be much lower than most other tubular manifolds on the market.
[email protected] is his email. The page hasn't been update with the pics of the rb manifold yet, but you can view his other offerings and pics of the work at RLD Fabrication (http://www.rld-fab.com)

I like them, but I went with accord headlights because there are always so many in the local junk yard. If I damage a set I can get a replacement quick and on the cheap.

Few quick updates. The garage is finally organized and work has begun.
We took the trans out of the Lincoln and sent it off to the junk yard. It was a fun project, but with it down on 6 cylinders, and a few other issues it was time to move on. Alex has something else big in the works. He just has to finish up his fiero project first.

I started by taking everything apart. I am just starting at the front and working to the rear. Fixing things and making sure everything is proper as I go.
Front body panels off, intercooler and radiator out. Alex is in the background fingering his belly button being a jackass.

front end suspension completely apart. I am moving the rack further forward to hopefully eliminate any chance of over centering. Alex's fiero is in the background. It has a Cadillac North Star engine shoved into the back of it and that thing moves. it will be a damn impressive car once its finished up.

Small update. Got the steering rack moved forward as much as I possibly could, I have to lengthen the steering column before I can put it all completely back together. I quickly threw the suspension back together to see what steering angle looked like with the caster plates where I wanted them. It is going to be ridiculous once i get the knuckle design finished up.

I took the fuel system apart so I could clean out the fuel pumps. This is all the blue foam that was stuck inside of them. Horrible horrible stuff.

Sticking to the theme of fit and finish this winter, I started mocking up a splitter/flat bottom/rear diffuser setup. lately I have fallen in love with the looks of time attack cars, and with a need to fix the rear rockers of the coupe, I thought it would be a perfect solution. I have 1/2 of the rear mocked up (just going to copy the finished side over to make sure it's symmetrical when finished), and the front splitter basically designed. I have been using corrugated plastic from home depot to design with, and plan on using alumilite and aluminum to make the final pieces.
It is hard to get pictures of the rear because of how things are placed in the garage, so this is the best i could do for right now.

This is the front splitter. I think it needs to be about an inch wider to fit the front properly, and I need to round out the edges a bit better.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG1142_zps1e52594b.jpg
The exhaust will stay above the rear diffuser, and go out the drivers side panel behind the tire.

It has been a good long while since I have updated this. I am going to try to put this in as close to chronological order as I can remember.
Over the winter, a lot changed.
The truck went away, and I ended up with another project. Kind of keeping that under wraps until it gets a little further along.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/150a4db1-846b-4925-a5db-10dc6f7c5e1f_zps76addd79.jpg
Next, the engine came out of the coupe for clean up. I resprayed the engine bay, painted the motor, and spent a good amount of time detailing things to make it all look nice and happy. I also made some ducts for the silvia bumper to bring air to the rad and intercooler.

It's almost done. Have to put the exhaust back on, button up the interior, and it should be all set to move on to the next person. This was my first 240. I built it 6 years ago. Gona be sad to see it go, but I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it. Someone else will use it much more than I do.
Around that time I started promoting my design and cut vinyl business. I launched a web page to sell automotive based stickers and apparel. (shameless plug) www.81-17.com to check out the designs, or inquire about custom design, stickers, promotional items, or apparel.

On may 10th I set up a booth at the Ready Set Drift skid pad event at Pocono. it was a crazy last minute decision and I wasn't very well prepared. I didn't get to take many pics because I spent most of the time tying to make my booth look a bit more professional.

Sorry if this was a bit pieced together of an update. There has just been a lot going on and in all sorts of different directions. I should be buttoning up the red sr hatch in the next couple days, and then I'll be able to dive head first into finishing the coupe up. Doing the vinyl stuff and going to events with it has been a blast. Psyched for what the rest of the year has in store.

Small update.
Saturday I drove to Albany and picked up a new toy. 1980 Porsche 924 turbo. It is all stock, and completely rust free. For some reason it isn't getting spark, so hopefully I'll be able to get that figured out tonight.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG1545_zpsa9agrknk.jpg
Sunday I said goodbye to my red hatch. It was kinda sad watching it leave, but I needed the money for home renovations more than I needed another s chassis.
Now that I have been able to cross a few larger projects off my list of things to do, I should be able to get back to my car builds. I'll also take some more pics of the Porsche tonight. I am still amazed at how clean this thing it.

Yeah, I basically replaced one car with another, but its fair to say I sold the 240 for a fair bit more than I paid for the Porsche. I also feel it is a sensor, well more so a connection to a sensor. It seems most people that have a similar problem have a tarnished connection to the two sensors on the top of the trans bell housing. I forget what they are called at the moment but they read the flywheel. Before I can get to that point I have to put the engine at TDC and put the dizzy and ignition coils back together. The P.O. did a quick test of the basic stuff then sold it. The coil and dizzy check out fine, which leads me to believe it is that connection even more.

Wow, it has been a while since I have updated this thread. Quick run down of things, the Porche still doesn't run correctly. I believe the fuel distribution block needs to be rebuilt. It currently only runs on cyl 1,3,4. Something is wrong with the fuel pressure to #2, its stupid and I currently hate it. I'll work on it again in the spring.
I picked up a '92 Infiniti m30 for a winter car.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/1002_zpshv8lmvja.jpeg
Found a set of used 240 suspension with drop zone sleeves and eibach lowering springs. I am surprised at how nice it rides. Since the picture I have leveled out the ride height. For some reason I have fallen absolutely in love with this car. If it makes it through winter without any issues I have some plans for it come spring time.
I rebuilt the high compression ka as a ka-t. This will replace the horrible automatic vg30e in the m30.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMG_20141025_191900474_zpsshvc8tyr.jpg
Since I got into motorcycles, I have always wanted to build a cafe racer and a bobber styled bike. Last spring I finally started a search for a donor bike to start one of the builds with. Luckily I found both of these in one place at an awesome price of $600 for both.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMAG1275_zpsuoef21oy.jpg
The maroon bike is a '79 GS750, and my current build project. I bought it in running condition so I figured it would be the easiest to get done with the fewest potential mechanical problems along the way. The blue bike is a '78 GS1000. At some point in time it had been partially disassembled, but the engine still seems to spin freely so I don't think it will take that much work to get it running again.
Once the bikes were home they sat in my basement until a few weeks ago. With winter coming I decided it was finally time to drag the 750 out and give it a good gunking and a wash.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMG_20141111_115230845_HDR_zpsfjuglgpr.jpg
There was a solid 40 years of leaked oil and crud all over the engine and frame. Even after hitting it with the pressure washer and letting it soak in gunk there is still a lot of cleaning to do before final reassembly.
The next step was to strip it down and start cutting things off. In two nights time it went from a complete bike to a bare frame.

I extended the swing arm 5 inches and mocked things back together to see how I liked it.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMG_20141122_180311_zpsw1i9q3u1.jpg
Then made some framework for the seat.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMG_20141123_190019227_zpswdqvcjcv.jpg
Wrapped the framework in a t-shirt for a base, a few layers of fiberglass and resin later I had a seat pan.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMG_20141123_173755487_zpsbkydsdk0.jpg
Here is the seat pan trimmed down to size.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMG_20141125_205028833_zpsbk36tdyx.jpg
I am missing a couple pictures for the next part. To keep the ride height I wanted, it only left about 1.5" between the bottom of the frame in the rear and the ground. To fix this issue I raised the back of the engine cradle two inches. This gave me more clearance and set the motor more level with the ground.
I put the engine back in the frame, and tacked on the rear shock mounts. I lowered the triple trees on the forks about 1.25 inches to level the bike out and get rid of a touch of the rake. This is final ride height.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMG_20141128_121344297_zpsq071bowg.jpg
I welded the kick stand onto the right hand side of the bike to make it be a bit different than most of the other bikes out there.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y199/champish/Coupe/IMG_20141207_183922031_zpshyovmh1t.jpg
I then had to pull the motor back out to get some broken exhaust bolts out of the head. After the holidays I should be getting back into it. Maybe once the bike is done I'll stop hating cars again and get back around to making the coupe not suck as much. I really wish I could get the title of this thread changed, I think it has evolved to far more than a shitty missile build thread.
