Trying to rule out some culprits. This is an obdII motor & tranny into and obdI auto '95 s14.

Is this wire necessary for start-up? Something to do with power steering?

Plug coming from the top of the tranny. I don't have a place for it. Necessary for start-up?

Finally, could any of this keep it from starting? O2 sensor not plugged-up because 1wire plug vs 3wire sensor. #3 is a ground that had to be moved because it's normal location was charred. #4 is the plug from the previous pic - coming from the top of tranny.

first picture looks like the cable that connects to the ignition coil. check it out. Most likely wrong.

OBD II do not have LEDs.. only OBD I

im preeerdy sure that connects to your ac compressor. the plug should be on the side of the compressor that faces towards the driver side frame rail

#1 is o2 sensor, shouldnt cause it not to start.
#3 ground, do you have the harness grounded? There should be a ground ring from the harness that should be grounded around there. I'd tie this off to the same spot.
#4 looks like its connected to the crank angle sensor on top of the bellhousing. It will throw a cell but shouldnt cause the car not to start.

Try to use your old ECU, you can pull the codes by looking at the check engine light on the gauge cluster, instead of the LED in the ECU.

That wire coming from the top of your trans is the Crank Pos. Sensor and Subharness. Needed for trouble codes.

I'd suggest a 95 manual ECU. If you have an S14 then you should have a place for that plug. It's tough to find too, and as I said it's for emissions, so don't toss that part or forget where you store it. At the very least you can make some money off it.

No, dropping the cluth does not work. Everything ran fine in the donor car before the swap.

Yes, the harness is grounded to the motor. No ac, so Ill just leave that wire unplugged?

Ill check the codes through the cel. Thanks for the comments. Any other suggestions?
There is no spark, btw.

without the crank angle sensor car will definitely not start from my experience when i had a obd2 KA. i would try the obd1 distributor if running a OBD1 harness

If the CAS is required for start-up, where does it connect? I dont think there is a place for it to go.

Distributor: Didn't consider this before, but maybe this is a problem.

When swapping the motor, the dizzy didn't get touched (so I'm using an obdII distributor). OBDI plug didn't match-up, so I re-wired the plug to fit. Most colors matched and I checked each wire's location inside the plug. Maybe got wires backward? Anyone have a wiring diagram w/colors for these?

Check out wiring diagram, Specially if your swapping between OBDs and auto to manual trannys.

The Crank Pos sensor, plugs into that subharness, which plugs into the trans harness. Check your FSM for a wiring diagram, or the diagrams for an OBD-2 one.

Most threads say cps can be left out, but this will throw a CEL.
The plug for the CPS(it's not a CAS) should be located on the passenger side around the starter/oil filter area closer to the body frame.

Also, the distributor has nothing to do with OBD requirements. They should be the same for all 95-98 years. My OBDII dizzy plugged in just fine with my OBDI harness.

I'll look for an empty plug around the starter/oil filter, but I'm pretty sure I've already checked there. Here's an excerpt from the FSM for a '95. Can't find where it goes to, though...

CPS is built in? Can anyone check on their '95 240 and see where the cps plug goes to from the tranny?

Okay, it seems like you're missing something, correct me if I'm wrong tho and you knew all this.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor is the one on top of your bell housing, it checks the flywheel's teeth to detect misfiring. The Camshaft Position Sensor should be in your Distributor, if you had an S14 one.

My wiring is coming off where it should in the picture, then again I made damn sure I had a 1996 Harness and sub-harness before I started my swap...

As long as it's an S14 Harness, that connector should be there. Worst comes to worst, pull the sub-harness off the sensor and try to match up the connectors. Also, it looks, from the first picture, you posted of that subharness, that it's on the wrong side. The wire should be coming from (as Agamemnon said) the passenger side of the harness (intake side), near the starter wiring.

In case anyone's looking at this in the future, I wired the distributor incorrectly and had some ground unhooked on top of that. The crank angle sensor was also unplugged.
- car now starts!
