View Full Version : Having problems with Enjuku HKS SSQV Hotpipe alignment with Blitz LM FMIC...

What sucks is I noticed that my Enjuku Racing HKS SSQV Hotpipe didn't line up with the piping of my fmic, I have about 2 weeks to find out what we're going to do, we were thinking maybe we could cut the hole a little bit bigger towards the rear and try to bend the ic piping back to meet the hotpipe. We'll find out next Tuesday, but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas why its coming up a little short? Someone suggested that it was maybe made for an S13 SMIC. Enjuku states "Enjuku Racing HKS Blow-Off Valve/HotPipe Kit for Nissan S13 SR20DET Swap with S13 intercooler.", but didn't mention if it was an S13 SMIC or FMIC, but I'm thinking it shouldn't make a difference. Maybe its because I have an S14? Well, what do you guys think?

I would put my money on the problem lies in the fact that it is a s13 part trying to be fitted onto an s14. If you know anyone with an s13, put the pipe in the same position and see how it sits.

S13 piping goes works from S14 fender hole to intercooler to other fender hole, and right up to the throttlebody. Then, there is a reason I think only 1 company includes the upper hotpipe with their FMIC kit.
Having said this, a s13 upper pipe simply won't work due to the slight difference in engine bays. Same reason most S14 KA-T kits won't work on a s13. You may be able to run a s14 pipe. I don't know. Why people put s13 motors into s14s is beyond me :sadwavey:

Re-looking at that pic, you can do what I did with my KA-T piping. In that straight section, cut it in half. Then get a 4" or so silicone coupler, and simply move that pipe over a bit.

Thinking it over, I'm pretty sure the problem lies in the differences between chasses. You can probably get away with cutting that section out a little (chek first to make sure nothing's down behind there), since it doesn't *appear* to be structural... however, it's always prudent to be as sure as you can, first.
Good luck!

im with jeff on this one, cut the hot pipe and extend it, beats cutting up the body imho.

Hmm, I was thinking it shouldn't really matter if its an S13 redtop in an S14 chassis due to my Blitz LM kit deing designed for the S13 SR and my ic coldpipes line up perfectly to the throttle body with no misalignments and no problems with the S14 chassis. The core is even mounted perfectly as if it were for an S14. I'm just assuming that the hotpipe I purchased is just for some reason short. If it were chassis problems, wouldn't I have problems with my coldpipes coming short of the throttle body? Well, cutting the hotpipe and extending it a little with a coupler is a good idea. I might actually end up doing that. It would just suck to see a $130 hotpipe get hacked up because it came short. Oh well, thanks for the help guys.

Why did you put a redtop in your S14 anyway? Just curious, not trying to flame.

You have to cut it. I have the s13 VPSL intercooler with the s13 Greddy hotpipe. Had to cut a bigger hole than where the stock resonator is right now.

No. S14 KA-T guys can use s13 sr piping, and the FMIC lines up perfect, as does the throttle body, and it's a different engine. There is, however, a reason why the Greddy kit didn't come with an upper hotpipe. This is it. You needed to order a S14 upper hotpipe, I think. I know heavythrottle sells custom upper pipes because of this.

Why did you put a redtop in your S14 anyway? Just curious, not trying to flame. It was cheaper than an S14 SR, and I didn't care too much for the S14 SR Variable Timing since I will lose it anyway when I upgrade the turbo. VT is nice, but is too much of a hassle later down the road.

-JeffThough, there is a big difference between hotpipes for S13 SR and S14 SR motors. I have the right hotpipe, I guess I have to do one of the above mentioned methods to make it fit.

I have installed a few of these. You will need to make the hole bigger to bring the intercooler pipe to the correct place. Right now you have it pushed too far towards the front of the car. If you set the pipe under the body and let it sit where it should you will see where you need to cut.

why does it matter what engine you put into a 240sx?????
an sr20 is an sr20 regardless of what model it came from in japan.

anyway, you could cut the straight part in half and weld an extension, i don't know if using just a silicone coupler will work.

Whats your mods for it so far? I got most of my parts ordered...jes waiting for it to get here to get my blacktop started. I got the HKS hot pipe from phase2 and trying to figure out theres any fmic out there that would be a direct bolt on into the s13 hotpipe in a S14 chassis.

AlanYea your right as well as the other guys who said the same thing. I guess I just assumed it would extend to the factory S14 hole, oh well. Yea, I will go ahead and make the hole bigger instead of cutting the hotpipe and using a coupler, I don't want to worry about the pipe blowing off in one more spot. Thanks again guys.

I can only speak for my S13 Blitz LM kit that it's really nice and has perfect fitment on my S14 chassis.

Koo so you are running a S13 FMIC. Shoot i guess imma have to make my own piping then. Thanks man...im following your foot-step in a couple of weeks. Just waiting for the rest of my parts to get here.
