going to go tomorrow morning and get an estimate from one of my car insurances body shop(have full coverage) and im just wondering if the other guys insurance company will pay for full repairs on my 4,699 KBB valued car 96' 240sx, guy hit and ran me on a one way trying to cut me off and i found his house 1 hour after i filed police report and called the cops again to get his car towed and him arrested, so hes pretty much fucked.

im not quite sure how any of this will turn out or how much i will be receiving for my damages, so i posted this thread to see if any of you guys had experienced anything like this and either came out good with full repairs or got fucked over and could input what they could have done differently.

thanks in advance :bigok:, heres the car:2f2f:, and the damage after :picardfp:

damn very helpful , im leaning towards them fixing it :bigok: , been through a lot with that car hate to see it be a total loss because of some tard who couldnt wait to get home 2min from the place i got hit.

yeah the pic is hard to see , nearest part to the qp on the bottom its bent inward , my door window doesnt sit flush with the trim on the door anymore so debris can fall in it and doesnt seal well also from the trim that connects the driver window to the qp window . its like im talking to the body guy himself lol

Getting an estimate from my insurance companys body shop right now, guy says "im punching the #s in and its most likely a total loss bud" his reason being , my suspension is most likely bent lol , and the qp alone would be a total loss

Judging by the pic (which kind of sucks), I dont see how that could have tweaked the suspension, especially if it was only at 15mph... Lets see some better pics.

i grew an extreme hate for that commercial and car now since i got hit , matter of fact on the way back from my damage report there was a black one stalking me on the freeway :rl: lol

Good shit on catching the bastard.
moment of silence came upon me when i found him parked in front of his house with pieces of his car on the street just when i was about to give up my search :coold:

take the money from insurance... drift missile time...
4k and take the rest of my parts off the vehicle would be nice , i just got sentimental value towards the car so its harder to let go of her :hide:. she will be fixed up and back to norm soon

side note: damage estimator takes 2min to look at my car , takes pics of all 4 corners door vin sticker and mileage and from these 2 minutes assumes my suspension is bent and fucked , zero effort to inspect my car , still helped me out with writing me off as fixable , but i can only imagine what he tells people who dont know anything about cars

got tboned in my 240. te37 scratched. qp dented worse. lca bent. i got 4g from their insurance company. their insurance adjuster kept trying to total my car and i said "YO this is not my fault at all, come back when you have the check to fix my shit." kept coming back with pussy checks for like 800. i showed them my receipt for a 1200/ea wheel and they shit the bed. back up your cars "value" by what some threads sell similar parts/cars for. THEY have to make your car back to the way it was before their client smashed into you. you shouldnt have to take any loss here unless its actually your fault.

$3-400 to fix would be a botched half asses job at best... Beat the dent out and slather bondo all over it?

To do it right, would be to replace the quarter panel which would cost way more than $3-400.

Since you said you're waiting on chargespeeds, take off your interior panel near the major dent, and see if you can use the basketball trick to pop the dent.

military oriented or base stickers do not necessarily make the person a 'military guy.' and how do you know he was drunk? maybe he was just a horrible driver. if he was [military] he has to be caught first to get into the deep shit. with all that being said, military or not i hope whomever did it gets caught and i hope he gets hammered hard.

Inspiring me lol , i haven't got a chance to contact his insurance about my accident because he wasn't complying to the officers so the police gave me an invoice # for evidence and info of the guy , went yesterday to the police station.after work but it was closed. I might just have to wait until my next day off, not sure if that'll effect my credibility or not though.

lucky they didn't total.

Yeah i really didn't want to see it written off as a total loss , such a relief though.

On it , need a fatty check though from his insurance >:)

His neighbor who was military came out wondering why i was snooping around his house and that's when i told him what had happened and he said he was probably drunk , and that the guy was military sharing the house with another military guy.

my quarter panel was totally wrecked, so i went to a u-pull it lot, where they let me cut it out myself for $150. I then gave the part to my local bodyshop, I know the guy and he's fixed loads of cars for me, so he cut out my wrecked one, and then welded on the new one 100% perfect, and primed it for me for $500.

You don't even need a new door I've straightend out worse....and the quarter isn't even bad...I could straighten it out nearly perfect no bondo...then just a light skim to make it perfect and A LOT of block Sanding...could be fixed in 1 day painted the second...maybe 1000 with blending and.burning in the new paints

After getting damage like that, and the guy ran, I would immediately contact a lawyer and sue. His insurance is going to do everything in their power to pay you less than it will cost to fix the car. So make him pay for the rest.

is that considered a fix? depends BRO

like, for the majority of idiots who dont know.. sure... its fixed

im the type of guy that i like to know whats UNDER my paint. when my friend who does dent removal works on my cars, i dont like worrying about "oh, yeah you may pop off the paint with the bondo" when trying to remove dents. i use a paint gauge on my cars to know whats under the paint.

clearly, when you think of things like a smart person - you dont want some fuckin shoddy repair. i know i dont.

hard to believe a military guy driving a hamster car.

although i did rent one once to pick up stuff from socal and it doesn't seem all that bad for the cargo space to haul shit and roomy enough to be comfortable for long road trips.

I agree with you 100% on this... But I think we're out numbered haha. This kind of goes hand and hand with the "knockoff vs. real parts" discussion.... 95% of 240 owners are to cheap to do things the right way. They would rather spend $500 on a repair job like the asshat above outlines, vs. spending a couple grand and replacing the beat parts with new stuff.

If it wasn't the drivers fault it shouldn't be fixed shoddy, it should be put back the way it was before!

My insurance guy told me to keep all receipts of purchases and have it appraised etc. Then I would have a high chance of getting what I actually put into the car. But I told him its kind of a restore/rebuild car that isn't daily driven and will see less that 8K miles a year. If you have high end items, it might not be a bad thing to look into. You may not get them back due to discontinued status, but at least you may get the money for it so your not double f#$%ed. I haven't fully looked into it yet, but that is what he told me to do once I start driving the car. He said it would be some form of "professional" documentation that could be used to help sway the outcome instead of "your" word. Just a thought.

So what your saying is he should replace the entire quarter and door skin and replace rear window seal...and pay 4gs for a 5000 dollar non collectable car? Seems pointless in doing it. If it was still 95/96 sure but its not its 17 years old. And I assure you a good body man could restore that and you would never in a million years know. And the filler would prob out last the paint or even car. Even a new quarter requires filler and glazing in....soooooo what your sayin is thats cheaping out to.

On a side note I've seen pdr guys work miracles...so maybe a new skin and pdr on the quarter...either way still expensive

what im sayin is, do a proper repair or dont do it at all.

if a company is going to collect insurance money, its their duty to weld in a new fender, not to bang and fill a panel.

you could bet whatever you want but i can tell you that it wont take a million years of year cycling for that filler to crack, it'll take more like a few years.

bottom line, its not a $500-1000 dollar fix

Google brought me to this page.. I have a 96 240sx I was in a wreck last weekend.. I consider my cars damage to be worse than the o.p. can you guys tell me what I'd be looking at to fix it? Or if its better to save the cash for another car. I can't post pics off my phone and I know that doesn't help... Damage is to door and quarter panel area, passenger side, door is pretty dented in, so is quarter panel, area of door frame close to qp is bent a little, door opens and closes with a hard slam. Damage goes from middle of pass. Door to the top of rear tire.
