Hey, this is a good question.  I'm just wondering why people say that pulleys add more horsepower?  Isnt pulleys the thing that just moves the belts?  I dont know, if it does add horse power then that would be cool, like I always hear the term "underdrive pulley"  what the heck is that and why does it add horse power?

They change the size of the pulleys to get a different level of mechanical advantage, just like changing gears on a mountain bike.  The alternator, powersteering pump, water pump, and airconditioning will not be as effective but it should not be very critical.

yeah.  think about it - if u have a smaller pulley on there, the accessories won't be spinning as fast.  if the accessories arent spinning as fast, the engine doesnt have to supply as much energy to power them.  that means more energy that can be put down to the wheels.  this, like fastnissan said, makes your accessories less effective, but unless ur running huge subs, and live in death valley, it shouldn't be unbearable.
