Hi every one I bought a 240 with s13 black top SR how can I tell if it's a rebuild ?
I see they did a head gasket it called Apexi . That's the only thing I can see but the rest I can't.
I did a compression test it came up to 150psi all 4.
I looked at the engine seals they look red and clean to me.
I don't know if any one knows how to find out If they build that sr or no.
Can some one tell me in easy way to find out.
Dose any one knows how ?

Is this for real? I would contact the previous owner. What is your definition of a "rebuild"? Sounds like the owner replaced gaskets and re-sealed everything. The only other way to determine internals is to take the engine apart. Why does it matter?

The first owner that did the swap he's from Texas the second owner that I bought the car from he dose not have his info so I'm kinda confuse here trying to find out. I wish If I have the first owner info.
Why I want to know is because I'm thinking of upgrading the turbo.

Get a mini cam and look in the spark plug hole...pull the pan and look up at the rods.and.pistons but if it runs good who cares

Well nothing to be confused about. Your pretty much out of luck if you don't have the info for the ORIGINAL owner who did all the previous work. Usually I tell people if they are going to buy a modified car, you better get all the facts and info before you take the plunge. Esp if its 2nd, 3rd hand down the line. Basically your in the dark and don't know what to expect.

Looks like you will prob have to do it the hard way and take it apart and find out.

Dang I had a headache dealing with your grammar. I'm going to assume your a ESL guy. You been posting alot of comments in other threads on how people lack common sense and honestly your situation and question is not too hard to answer.

So it has a upgraded Apexi metal head gasket. That could be the only thing they did. ASSUMING they did it right, they changed out some seals on the top end. That still does not mean the block was ever serviced or touched. With the upgraded head gasket, yes you can boost more, but doesn't mean that your motor has been rebuilt (with OEM parts) or BUILT (upgraded aftermarket parts).

Ok so you want to take the word of a guy that is not responsible if you blow your shit up? Your going all on speculation. Hey if it makes you happy to slap on a big turbo, and you hit your goal only to blow your motor a few weeks or months down the road that's your decision. Just remember you are the only one that will be forking out the cash to get it fixed.

Oh no I'm not taking his word I'm just say what he sad.
I have to make sure my self of what I got in side my engine before going big with turbo.
Trust me man I don't want shit happen to my engine.

If the compression is good, and if you have a upgraded metal head gasket, go for it and boost up. Make sure you have the proper fuel setup and get a good tune it should be ok. Personally, I do not trust what anyone tells me, I've learned the hard way and was now the proud new owner of a very heavy and expensive paper weight. If I didn't build it myself or have documentation showing who and where it was built along with a list of what specific parts were used in the build, I'm going to ASSUME its a bone stock motor and play it safe instead risking it and end up paying more $$$.

Honesty man I'm not big fan of racing I don't racing my car. I have a nice looking car with a little extra HP. To play safe and keep my engine running longer with out any problems.
I believe of. More HP More Problems

Buy a corolla. Less HP, less problems.

I mean, you're better off buying a 350Z if you want more reliability for more hp while being mechanically-sounding. If you had to ask a question like "how to do if engine is rebuilt," then you are not mechanically incline and should either get rid of it or take it to a tuner shop and they'll just rape you of money.

To know whether it has been rebuilt, you pretty much have to take the thing apart again and know what to look. Otherwise, it's another he-said she said.sort of thing. Kinda like buying a car and they said it has no accidents or body damage until you get a flat tire and found out there's a giant hole at where the spare tire use to be.

Pour water in the gas tank...then see how long it runs for...

Oh wait ouch no don't do that haha.

Had to troll a little been a while...

Easiest way is to check the valvetrain first. pop off the valve cover. If the little white or yellow Nissan service paint stripes are no where to be found and you see anything else out of the ordinary good chances it's rebuilt.

Bottom end but not the top end? Well unless it's aftermarket you can't really tell very well without having the full history of the motor. You would have to tear off the bottom oil pan and upper oil pan or the head off to be able to see for sure in the bottom end anyways...ouch

Do a compression test and leak down if you just want to be sure the motor is in good enough shape to run on...then make sure it's tuned right so you don't blow it up in 10 seconds...good luck.:ughd:
