I have this exact problem. While i was driving about 40mph. My engine made a loud noise like a screeching noise. the car started shutting down. the power steering dead brakes hard all lights on dash flashing. I pull over and turn on the car again. Then its fine. then i turn on the ac again then the engine completely shuts off while the ac runs just fine. Please help. Thank you.

I think your A/C compressor is bad. The noise that u hear it maybe from the A/C clutch..

The screeching problem is prolly from the belt. Try replacing that first!

That is the clutch fan for the engine (the big propeller fan on the front)
What you will need is to get a used AC Compressor (as the remanned ones are 350 bucks) from the classifieds here. Or, just take off the belt for now.

Full of fail. There are three belts in the engine bay. If you can push the belt more than 1/4" out of the position it is in it must be tightened.
The power steering tensioner is probably the hardest but it's fairly simple man. Push each belt up and down first and see if there is excessive play. then come back here and tell us which belt is the culprit.
The AC belt tensioner is underneath the motor and is next to the smallest pulley down there. The alternator tensioner is attached to the bracket that holds it in place. Same thing with the power steering tensioner.

the noise happens regardless ac on or off. and belts are tight.
Get under your hood and look at your fan as it spins. listen to where the noise is coming from. if you see the fan is wobbling, then you know you should change your fan clutch.
also your compressor is seized, don't turn the ac on anymore because when you do that you're putting incredible wear on your crank.

the noise happens regardless ac on or off. and belts are tight.
Here's three steps u have to do to find out.
1. Remove the A/C compressor belt. Then star the car if the noise still there ?
Step tow
2. Remove the altenator belt then star up again. Still there ?
3. Remove the Power Steering belt with that now you have no belts on your engine. So star up ur engine again you shouldn't have any noise what so ever.
If the noise gone on step 1 then ur A/C compressor is bad or the tensioner pulley for ur A/C .
If that noise still there it could be ur power steering pump or your altenator .
Do all the three steps and you will find out your problem.
I think that will clear out your problem. :goyou:
