View Full Version : Should I buy a G35 or upgrade 240sx?

So im kinda torn, I was thinking over the past few days of the choice i should make. Now don't get me wrong I LOOOOVVEE the s chassis vehicles. But I have always wanted a Z.

So here is the story, Just bought the wife a S13 (its still in the shop waiting on the seatbelt motor from japan), I want her to love it as much as I did my first 6. So I want to upgrade the suspension and add a few areo parts. But i just sold my 95 ealge Talon TSI for $3000 and I want to dump about $2000 (the other $1000 is going to registration and repairs) of that into the car with a budget build since my wife will just use it as a daily.

OR

Take the money and use it for a down payment on a G35 (auto cause she cant drive stick) and try my luck with that and see where the road takes us. All i would really like to do with the car is drop it on some new shoes and upgrade the exhaust and a few other bolt ons so I can keep the car reliable. Not a big fan of payments but for a dealer warenty and a newer chassis i could make an exception.

What would you guys do? BTW i forgot to mention, this will be her FIRST CAR!! and no she has not had a chance to drive the S13 on the road yet.

LET THE WARS BEGIN!

You live in Coachella, ie desert...why the fuck would you want your wife to drive an unreliable of a shit box known as an S13?

Just get a BRZ. You won't need to upgrade anything. It is an all around good car for the most part and on the plus side, it already has a new sporty look. I wouldn't recommend letting your wife drive an s13 unless it was necessary.

Why don't' you have poll ?

beside, this is pretty stupid question to ask... S13 over G35? no shit... ?? what do you think pal???

You think she is going to LOVE s13 so much over G35?? i don't think so. plus, you said she can't drive M/T.

Why don't you ask her what SHE prefers?

SHE told me to pick up the S13 in the first place, and if it were up to her she would perfer a BMW Z4 or a 2001 and above 3 series. But I do know that everytime she sees a s13 or a G35 done correctly she gets excited.

As for unreliable, that is why it is in the shop so it can be reliable. And as for repairs in the future i have an average knowledge of the ka motors so after it comes out of the shop I should be able to trouble shoot the little issues. Where as the G35 I know nothing about and the learning curve will be hellacious.

Well when it comes to the two cars it is also an issue of cost, like everything else. We are just starting as a family and money is not as tight as most but keeping the cost down would be a great help. Not saying that the monthly payments for the G would be bad since we are both working, but keeping the cost reasonable would put a smile on both of our faces. And as for the the M/T, can you elaborate?

Didnt you say before that you guys are starting a family? I'd get something roomier for her more than anything else.

Also, you might wanna fix your signature...you sound retarded with "congradulations".

Your signature is spelled wrong. It's Congratulations not Congradulations.

Also, buy the G35.

One time I was walking past an abandoned warehouse listening to Hubastank when I spotted a gentleman with a gas can. He was looking at me with mal intent. So I attacked him in the ajacent parking lot with his Karl Kani boots.

No car payment > car payment.
Car payment = Reliable car
No car payment = stranded or broke down in the middle of the road.

I just dont want her to wreck the G since it is her first car, and if she does wreck the S13 then its no sweat. But I see your point on the whole reliable car issue.

If you can easily afford a G35 then jump on it. But remember you have to do monthly payments, and full coverage insurance, and more expensive maintenance.

07-23-2012, 01:51 PM
Why the hell would you trust us on what to do?

If you do have any common sense, and you are trying to save money or whatever. Buy her a beater and a half for like 600-1000 let her drive that for about 6months to a year.

In that time, teach her to drive stick. If she can handle not destroying the beater ass ford tempo or whatever you get for under 1k, then get her in the s13 or like others have said throw down for a brz or frs. reliable, cheap monthly payments, just add wheels and enjoy.

she's 24, and she never needed one, she always had her brother drive her and for college she lived on campus so she never needed one.

so treat her like a 16 year old or any "new" driver. Beater, wreck, another beater, wreck..... repeat process.....2 years later nice ride. Wait, some people's 240's are beaters. Forgot. 240 it is.

Make your own decisions/ask her opinions! Dont listen to a bunch of dudes on the interwebz. Seriously.. why are there so many threads on here asking "Should I buy this or this", "Should I look this way or that way", "Should I drive to work today or walk?", "Should I shit in the toilet across the hall, or the one right next to me?". Ridiculous. Make her buy her own ride, or take the bus. That's what I'd do. As for the seat belt motor from Japan?? I have like 6 laying in my shop I would have sold you for $5 a piece..

dont get me fuckin started......... miatas are garbage cans with wheels. the one car i fully regret owning which i purchased for my wife. mazda, never again. fucking trash.

the only reason your car has 303k is because you drive like a pussy.

first of all, you dont listen to your wife when it comes to cars. she, like all women, know nothing about cars. you buy a car thats reliable and end it. that car is called a g35 SEDAN, family man.

Do you hate your wife? Why would you ask her to drive an S13 as her first car? My wife drives a paid-for, safe and reliable car. You want to know what to get her? Get her something that ticks all those same boxes in a package you can buy outright - fuck brand loyalty or your desire to always own a Z. No car is worth being in debt for.

He's called Dave Ramsey, look him up and do yourself and your wife a favor.

RELIABLEEEEEE, I have a g35 and a 240, trust me even though i hate the payment and i hate the gas milege. every time i watch one of my friends 25 year old economy sports car go down, I thank my lucky stars that I picked reliable with a warrenty. Yea i pay a couple hundred a month, but i'm never stranded, always starts up so i can go to work, no downtime whatsover, fucking comfortable. The cost of your payment vs. reliability maintainence, threat of being stranded, drift tax part prices, and the inconvience of downtime, is a no brainer. Im not going to suggest a car for you as everyone has a preference and i don't wanna debate with anyone, but just google reliable cars for under 20,000. with your 3,000 down the somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 a month, which is very affordable. Trust me you can't put a price on peace of mind.

S13 bro . seriously, the kids can ride in the back.

Make sure you get the diff welded, slap an "Im killing it" decal on the windshield and your good to go.

Remove the carpet and stereo , your wife will love it. And exhaust fumes even better.

cheap and reliable equates to a Toyota Corolla. The insurance will be cheap as well. Enough with the banter though, you should know that the corolla is like a mini tank and when you need parts, they're abundant and cheap; new or at the yard.

07-25-2012, 01:23 AM
You know what, scrap the S13. Don't even buy her a G35 as her first car. Heck she didn't need a car so far, just get a her a monthly bus pass. No insurance, no car payments, no worrying about rising gas prices, heck you don't even have to worry about parking! Plus you get free AC, feel like a big shot cause you got someone driving you around, oh best of all maintenance free!

Go get her a RELIABLE PRACTICAL DAILY that is good on gas and easy/cheap to fix like a camry, corolla, accord, maxima, you know something along those lines? If its her FIRST car, she is going to fuk that NEW G35 up since she will be learning on it. I'm sure you don't want to see curb marks, busted cracked and scraped bumpers and the list goes on. Don't even waste your time on a stupid high mileage CHEAP USED G35, you'll still be stuck with the maintenance costs to get it where you want to be. After she learns how to drive, go trade one of those cars in if she still wants whatever car, at least camry/corolla, accord/civics have high re-sale value. GROW SOME NUTS or LET THEM DROP if you still have them and do the right ADULT decision.

Silentoreo34

Trade S13 for a civic(civic ppl always looking for a way out of the fwd game) cheap daily, great on gas, and if anything were to break it be pretty cheap.

As for reliable, we have a 08 4 door focus as a daily.

Have her just keep driving the Ford Focus while you driving your S13. See how often you have to ask the wife for a ride.

I use to own two used cars. One car dies, the other drives and vice versa. However, there are points in months where I do not even have time to fix the cars and ended up asking for rides. So I ditched one of them and bought a brand new Z with 5 year warranty and maintenance. When car is down, dealership is nice enough to loan me an Altima.

Im confused, you have a daily focus and bought her an s13 and are considering a g35? Youre talking about wrecking the g if you buy it and she drives it, why would she drive the g when she has an s13 and a focus?

LOL at all of these comments in here. Why would you want your gf/wife driving a shitbox s13 anyways? You'll have little 18 year olds drooling left and right "OMG I just saw a chick driving an s13 OMGGGGGGG"

I can't believe this is the extent that threads these days have come to. You're nearly 30 years old, you shouldn't be depending on the opinions of others to make decisions.

Arent u old enough to make your own decisions? But i do have an opinion lol. 240sx's are sooo simple: easy to work on (and maintain), kinda good mileage if you treat it as a regular car and dont get on it on every corner (im sure even better if its an auto), look alright (even better if s14 ;D). I dont know why people complain of 240's being unreliable, seriously, they've treated me very good, even my rb'ed s14 (only one problem when i first got it running and not a single problem after that) which i daily drive and plan to track it very soon (we'll see how it goes after that..). 240's are cheap and will be reliable if u take care of all the bugs (and i mean all includding all worn out bushings) when u buy it before u start dailying it and stay up with the maintenance, and we're talking an all stock 240. There's always a lot of shit to take care of when u buy a 240 but even after replacing everything on it it will come out a lot cheaper than doig payments. In my case, even if i had the extra cash, i wouldnt get a z, maybe a wrx or something else.
