RED LINE OIL

I know Red Line Oil is used by many race cars and I found out a way to save us all some money by using it!  Race cars change their oil after every race, but with Redline they change it every other race.  Seems like a lot, but their engines go through extremes.  My dad uses it and he has a BMW 850ci, which has 12 cylinders in it, for those of you don't know.  Bottom line:  a base engine for the McLaren F1.

Moving along, the oil is synthetic and costs about $8 a quart.  How many quarts does the S14 take anyways?  You'll save lots of money if you use this oil, because you don't have to change it until 21K miles.  All you'll have to do is change the oil filter every 7K miles.  You'll save time and money!  You do the math.

240 takes 4 quarts with a filter change 3 or 3.5 (not sure) if you leave the old filter in. I wouldn't trust any oil for 21,000 miles. Maybe I'd drive 4k on it, but not 21, thats nuts.

I'll be the guinea pig for this. &nbsp;Consumer Reports did a test on taxis, I think in NY, and they concluded that you could change your oil after 6K regardless of what brand motor oil you use. &nbsp;That says a lot since those crazy taxi drivers like to do a lot of stop and go.

O.K. lemme let you guys in on something you should allready know. The only thing that goes wrong with oil is it gets DIRTY!!! Why do you think when it goes in it is see through and comes out black as night? Why do you think it uses a filter?? Because all the moving parts of your engine are metal on metal and the friction, no matter how small causes metal shavings to come off of the moving parts. These particals eventually become sludge, a thick black goo that looks like #### inside your motor. The particals become abrasive and chew away at surfaces that are important for keeping oil from leaking. My father in law owns a garage and just had a truck in last week that the guy said he used slick 50 and didnt change the oil but every 15,000 miles and we had the valve covers off and the engine looked like it had a million miles on it yet the odometer had 81,000. &nbsp;Also a friend of mine works at a lube/oil/filter place and changes his oil every week because it is free and his car has 110,000 on it and doesnt burn a drop of oil and when you pull the oil filler cap you can see the engine looks brand new. Don't fall for these gimmicks, don't be lazy and don't be cheap when it comes to the most important material thing you own.

PSI, You do have a point. &nbsp;What was that guy thinking about Slick 50? &nbsp;They got sued for selling that stuff because it was no better than your regular motor oil! &nbsp;I know they probably did something to it to make a little better, or they would be out of business, but I still don't trust them.

Even Pro-Long engine lubricant was sued for false advertising.

Stay away from those snake oils. &nbsp;Regularly change your oil, you engine will be in good shape.

i heard that they tested the redline oil on a BMW M3, and it gained 10hp to the wheels, wow! &nbsp;but still, i don't care what kind of oil i use, i'll always change it at 3000 miles, better to be safe then sorry.

there was an altima that came in once the guy had arouind 21 k on it it was a 99! he said he didnt think he had to change the oil

what a duck even when we advanced the timing the car was a pos we didnt touch it cause the guy woulda wanted some kinda warrenty on it

i use mobil 1 tri syn and i still change my ooil before 3k around 2.5k miles

Actually he's half right. European Car did do a test on an M3 with Redline oils. &nbsp;They changed out the diff, transmission, and engine oils with Redline products and the car gained 5hp i believe, not 10. &nbsp;And yes this was dyno tested before and after the change with no other modifications

wow thats wicked. im sorry i was skeptical its just that ive seen too many oils and additives that say they add hp. slick 50,that new octane mix from razo,spark plugs saying they add 16 HP? nice to know though!

Oh, no I'm not doubting you whatsoever. &nbsp;I'm about to upgrade my fluids to Red Line as well as soon as my car needs it, which is soon! &nbsp;My dad mixed one of their products to his coolant and he says that it keeps his engine a whole lot cooler.

Thank god for common sense! &nbsp;I used to know a really nice Mormon woman (not knocking mormons) who cooked dinner for me because she couldn't afford to pay me for working on her car. &nbsp;Helluva good cook. &nbsp;Her car though. &nbsp;She wanted me to change the oil one day, and I said sure, how many miles do you have on it? &nbsp;She says: &quot;I changed it last October.&quot; &nbsp;So, about a year with a couple trips to Utah. &nbsp;Now funny enough, 21000 miles is about a year of driving, give or take 10,000.

I changed the oil, but at 60,000, her car (90's buick) was eating more oil than my 76 Ford Courier (re badged Mazda 1800 p/u) with 250,000 or so, give or take a million.

since were on oil ive seen some filter accesories that apparently remove metal particles from your engine. it looks like a big round magnet would this work?

I second that idea. &nbsp;By the way, for anyone that cares, don't buy FRAM. &nbsp;I've cut apart their filters, and they're pieces of shit. &nbsp;Mostly cardboard on the inside. &nbsp;They cost more and offer less filtering abilities. &nbsp;What they have is a very good advertising campaign, that's all.

Good filters I've cut apart and examined would be Mobil 1 and NAPA Silver/ NAPA Gold.

For the record, I use only NAPA Silver filters anymore.(the gold for some reason doesn't fit on my truck) &nbsp;When I switched from FRAM to NAPA, I actually noticed a lighter shade of spent oil after 3000. &nbsp;No bullshit.

Plus, to get the superior filtering element, NAPA silvers are only 3-4 bucks. &nbsp;

Mobil 1s are hella nice, but about 10 bucks. &nbsp;IMO, NAPA silver filters just as well. &nbsp;Gold does filter more (like 5ppm or something), but like I said, it doesn't fit on my truck.

hey as for that FRAM is shit thing, that is right on, a guy i know works for the state and they used to use a lot of FRAM stuff until someone came in and cut one apart, this guy did the same thing for me and i was shocked, i use PUREONE now, although if the NAPA are also good i might check that out.
