I have a s13 blacktop with a fmic and I have been worrying lately about the temp its been running. Its been pretty hot here in socal around a 100 and my cars been getting up to 210 degrees sometime slightly more. I have a temp gauge with the sensor hooked up on the upper radiator hose prior to the radiator. From everything that I've heard/read everyone has been saying that it should be running in the 180-190 region. Was wondering if that temp was being measured after the radiator, and if not what might my problem be. Have bleed the system several times running roughly 70% water 30% coolant and water wetter, also replaced the water pump recently.

If you are really worried about it get a koyo and a lower temp thermostat.... And then call it a day

I live in Norcal and it doesn't get as hot as it does down there but right now, i'm running FMIC and a godspeed radiator with stock fan shroud and shitty fan clutch, i'm getting readings of 180 in stop and go and 160 on free way, my temps shoot up an extra 15 degrees when I put a front bumper on.

Don't have the koyo but i already have the nismo thermostat

What fan setup do you have I also live in norcal so its not as hot but with the proper ducting it should be cooler than that

I have dual isis fans hooked up to an adjustable fan relay, there kicking on around 160 or so. I put in the upper cooling panel and made a lower panel to help channel air through the radiator.

I had the same problem in my car.
Have mishimoto rad, mishimoto fans, clutch fan.. And I kept getting around 199 on the gauge.
Took everything out and just installed altima fans. And boy do they cool... My temp with AC on with 106 degree weather outside does not exceed 185.
GL also ur temp sensor is in the right spot.

When I ran electrics I had one stay on all the time the other was for control, traffic stop and go etc. But I ended up just throwing a clutch fan back on and have had no problems with it other then its ugly as f...

Thanks for the help, I think I'm going to switch the fans out soon hopefully that does it

I have a temp gauge with the sensor hooked up on the upper radiator hose prior to the radiator.
I don't condone this location... Why do people try and reinvent the wheel with things that have been so heavily reaseached by a multi-million dollar R&D group.
Think about it for a second. You are measure the discharge coolant temperature... Why? Nissan places both of the temp sending units for the OE gauge and ECU (which is what's controlling your timing) on the Inlet. Just b/c people like Stance produce those adapters, it doesn't make it right. Maybe easier to install but incorrect on functioning. Why do you think typical water temp gauges max out at 210-220*F? So that you will always have your needle maxed out on the gauge...? No.
...also ur temp sensor is in the right spot.
I don't agree with you...
My sending unit for my aftermarket electronic temp gauge is on the Inlet. I want to know when my ECU is going to pull timing and when its dangerous. It tells me that my cooling system is falling behind on what the motor is going through. I don't care what the radiator is getting...

Hmm mine is on the upper water neck inlet as well, maybe I just wrote it wrong. That is the only legitimate place I could think of..

The upper water neck is the Outlet

I guess u are right.. When I was searching to install my sensor that's the only place I found that everyone was placing their sensors at..

Just curius as to where you tapping into on the inlet side?

the thermostat housing adapter. Drilled and tapped 1/8-27 NPT
You can see it here in this pictures. The little brass stud.

Not sure if this will help you but I was having overheating problems with my sr. Decided to put an oil cooler on and now when I drive the car down the highway the gauge barely goes higher then the C.

So for the time being seeing 210 on the oulet shouldn't be a big deal as long as the radiator is cooling sufficiently? And also what temp is normal to be seeing on the inlet?

Do you not have the factory gauge working too? You can usually tell when a car is overheating or running hot. If everything looked normal I might say okay but it still seems a bit high. Not sure tho, it should always read hot over there.
Your operating temperature will fluctuate depending on what thermostat you're running and how thick of an oil you run. My car will run as cool at 150, which is a little low, but that's b/c I run a 40 weight diesel oil. When I run the car like it should be driven, it's in the 170-190. I usually let it cooled back down if I see something north of say 200-205.
I think I'm pulling timing around 195. Have to look at that again. It's amazing what you'll forget if you don't have to constantly keep looking at it.

This quick reply might be going off on a tangent but, It'll be documented for posterity
If you're getting your water temp readings on the inlet side of the engine and the temps are high or overheating you are fucked or about to be touched inappropriately!
The reading go like this, engine makes water hot, sends it to the radiator to cool down, the radiator sends it back to the engine. The engine says thank you. If you radiator fans stop working and the water temps going into the engine are 220+ you are over heated but that's not what the engines temperature is or the water in the radiator. The water in the engine, that is being picked up by a temp gauge mounted on the outlet side is higher and so is the water in the radiator. It's the way an early warning system is supposed to work. Nothing on the market is truly real time, taking into account your reaction time and action time. It's better to have a system in effect, that gives you some options.
Temp sensor on the outlet side for the early warning win!

Get rid of the electric fans and run a stock clutch fan and shroud. Also you don't need to run "coolant" in socal. Do you ever get below freezing temperatures? No. Run 1 bottle of water wetter and the rest distilled water. Best combo for dissipating heat. Water cools better than antifreeze.

yea id recommend fan clutch and shroud. its oem so its guarantee to cool down. theres an instructions on every coolant container which combination is the best to run on cooling system. if you are in a place where temp doesnt go that high like the guy above me said, id definitely run distilled water and water wetter.
if you are not cooling enough i would check your t stat if its fully functioning/opening
