Z33 Transmission to SR20 Adapter!

http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/riashly/IMG_0058s.jpg

Hey Zilvia! We had a really good response to the original thread (http://zilvia.net/f/drivetrain/357396-z33-sr20-transmission-adapters-4-available.html) and we just got more adapters in!

These are the new Version 2 adapters. The new plates have a slight modification which allows a little more clearance with bottom mount turbos.

So why a Z33 transmission? Keep reading!

The gearing is superior to an SR/KA/Z32 transmission. All of the gears are shorter now so you won't find yourself stuck between 2-3 gear on courses any more. You can now leave it in 3rd gear and rip! Not to mention having a 6 speed transmission that is tough and not made of glass like any SR/KA transmission!

This transmission is also significantly stronger. There are local 9 second Z33's that have yet to blow a trans. STOP BREAKING STOCK TRANSMISSIONS! Check out the gear size comparison!

You will retain your SR Clutch/Flywheel. You do not need a Z33 clutch.

What you need for the swap:

-Adapter plate
-Transmission mount
-Driveshaft
-Shortened shifter bracket
-Modifying Z33 Bellhousing
-Stainless steel clutch line. There are many vendors out there who sell these.

Pricing:

Just the plate and hardware is $430 shipped

Additionally other mods are available in stages depending on what you want to pay for.

Bellhousing Machining. Not just any machine shop can do this because of the size of the bellhousing. $80 +ship

Shifter modification. You send in your shifter and it gets modified then sent back to you. $125 +ship

Transmission crossmember. You can retain the original rubber mount(aftermarket mounts will also work). $100 +ship

i did this trans swap and after i got the trans in with the crossmember made and such i measured the length from the trans to the diff.. called drive shaft shop.. or some shop like it (i forget the name) said i needed a z33 input with 240sx diff side and the length and they made one for me.. one piece steel was about $250

is there an adapter for a KA engine?

So it's pretty much $735 + Tranny for complete swap then?

How do you make it so the stock speedometer works on a S13 or S14? That is what is holding me back on this.

We have a completed prototype but we've been having trouble finding someone locally to do test fitting for us.

$755 includes the adapter, hardware, bellhousing mod, shifter relocation, trans crossmember, and clutch line. Shipping would be added on top of that to ship the completed kit back to you.

You would need an ABS diff with the dakota digital speedo conversion box. Alternatively you can also use the S15 diff.

What's the turnaround time and what does return shipping usually cost for everything???

I PM'd you this question and I never heard back from you when I asked if you had these in stock a few weeks back.

The bellhousing interferes with the starter nose. You just need to cut a small scallop out of the bellhousing to get it to fit. There are no issues with the flywheel since you'd be using the KA starter and flywheel.

Everything is in stock right now. Typical turn around is 2-3 days. Sometimes it might be quicker or longer depending on how busy we get.

It's not easy to find an s15 diff, I've been looking.

wait are the gear ratios from the Z33 same as the z32/sr/ka trans?

street240sx
07-26-2012, 04:57 PM
Time to go work on my car so I could possibly help test ;)

As for the ratios you can look them up. Z33 gears are closer together and overall a little short that's why I'm going q45 ratio

maverickmotorsports
07-29-2012, 07:50 PM
Gear ratios are not the same. Everyone likes them better for drifting because they are spaced better.

350z/G35:

1st Gear Ratio: 3.794:1
2nd Gear Ratio: 2.324:1
3rd Gear Ratio: 1.624:1
4th Gear Ratio: 1.271:1
5th Gear Ratio: 1.000:1
6th Gear Ratio: 0.794:1

SR20:

1st Gear Ratio: 3.321:1
2nd Gear Ratio: 1.902:1
3rd Gear Ratio: 1.308:1
4th Gear Ratio: 1.000:1
5th Gear Ratio: 0.759:1
6th Gear Ratio: N/A

As you can see, the Z33 3rd gear is like a "2.5 gear" on the SR. Most guys with SR transmissions find that they are either sitting on the limiter in 2nd and not getting enough wheel speed or bogging out in 3rd and not spooling up the turbo. The Z33 trans has 3rd gear with is much better geared for the SR20 powerband.

gears are nice and all but what about how strong it is. how much hp and abuse can it handle?

maverickmotorsports
08-14-2012, 07:16 PM
There are local Z/G cars doing 900whp on slicks. They keep breaking the diffs. The transmissions are fine.

Our test vehicle has 550whp, 12" wide VIP wheels, and hasn't blown a Z33 trans in 2+ years. Constant abuse and drifting as well.

what exactly needs to be machined on the bell housing? and how would i place an order for 1?

maverickmotorsports
08-30-2012, 02:26 PM
The bellhousing needs to be milled down to assure that the input shaft goes into the pilot bearing.

You can place an order by sending payment via Paypal. PM sent.

what's the latest; are these kits still available?

I am building a 500rwhp +/- SR setup with a triple carbon clutch and fear that my stock SR trans won't last long even in daily driving (no clutch kicking or drag racing). While I have a functional no grind transmission now, I am thinking ahead.

Do you have trans crossmembers for s14? I am planning on swapping one into my s15 so I can stay 6speed.
