View Full Version : S13: Cold start bogging and horrible idle!

Whenever I start my car it instantly starts to bog. I've been able to stay on the throttle and keep revving it till it warms it up. Today I wasn't able to do that, it seemed like i was out of gas and would keep bogging even at 4k RPM.
Once its warm it runs fine. I disconnected my MAF, turned on the car and it ran perfect! So I warmed it up that way, after like 5 minutes I connected the MAF and it started idling from like 800k to 1400k. While driving it runs fine, when ever I'm stopped it idles from about 800k to 1200k

I cleaned the MAF and IACV, and installed new spark plugs so far.

My guess is that I have a bad MAF. I'll be going today to try another one on and possibly buy it if it fixes the problem.

Any other suggestions on what it might be?

Thanks, Lalo.

Hmm, Might I suggest you pick up a coolant temperature sensor?

Changed MAF and no difference. It might be the coolant temp sensor. I started the car today and was messing with the wires, i moved the coolant temp sensor and it suddenly started running perfect so ill be checking all my wiring and replacing that sensor.

I'm in the same boat, been through everything, finally just ordered a new coolant temp sensor, should be here wednesday. Cleaned my maf, changed my maf, installed a new engine harness from wiring specialties, these all helped the idle considerbly so I don't consider it wasted money but I really hope this new coolant temp sensor does the trick. Therre are 2 different coolant sensors for the ecu though- one thats rectangular, and one with the corners rounded off, just make sure you get the right one. 35 bucks brand new shipped from frsport.
