duplicolor engine primer, then engine paint. ive used it on a 4g63 block on my GSX and did a lot of heavy coats and its holding up just fine and looks awesome. i did it on my sr as well. didnt seem like it bonded as nicely to aluminium but we will see

For preping the surface most users that posted in here have the main idea... For paint it self... just like a normal paint job.. primer.... color... clear.... if you dont use clear that shit WILL peel off.. if you are painting a valve cover it will flake off if you dont put clear. Also.. baking the cover before you put the clear on helps harden the paint too so it will last long.. I painted my valve covers black on the supra and its lasted 3 years with no flaking at all and still looks just as it did the day i put them on... so the steps im explaining to you are going to work.

As far as painting the block... that gets pretty dam hot.

Obviously need to use hot engine enamel paint. but before painting the block its good to have the whole thing seriously cleaned of its grease dirt grim etc. I personally waited to paint my block untill after i had the machine shop resurface the whole thing. that made it so the blocks outer surface was completely taken off and basically took a couple thousands of an inch off of the outter surface and it was then a bran new block. In my opinion that is the best way to have your blocks paint applied.

I used high heat auto parts store engine enamel, like the 5.99 a can stuff on an old honda engine. year later its still silver :D

Im using rustoleum engine primer and aluminum paint
Block has been cleaned...just stain oil spots

So i should put a clear coat on all the parts and engine?

That's why I snickered. Even my coworkers had to doubletake.

Ok...so over the weekend i went back over my parts and used scotch brite
Gave it a light scrub, one layer of spray, right after sprayed clear coat to allow it to cure with the paint
The parts looks awesome...he pain isnt rubbing off like it was before
Im going to do the same with the head and block this weekend

Like with anything paint related if you don't prep the surface correctly the paint wont stick.
